With the compound bow in hand, I had some difficulty pulling it at first, but after I pulled it to the maximum, I felt that I could keep the string drawn for hours, since when it reaches the end of the draw, the cams kick in and I no longer feel any weight at all.
A compound bow like this is said to have the accuracy of a rifle precisely because of that.
That's also the reason I chose this, even though it consumed a good portion of my savings.
Through the sight, I managed to track the trajectory. In that sense, it reminded me a lot of a game.
And the large white rabbit was right in the center of my sight.
'Am I too far away?'
I had researched a bit about bows and knew that the wind could greatly influence the trajectory of an arrow, especially at greater distances.
I positioned my body consistently, standing sideways relative to the target. I rested the string against the side of my face and aligned the small reference attached to the string with one of the five pins on the sight.
Since the distance was great, I chose the farthest pin I had adjusted. To compensate for the arrow's drop, I needed to raise the tip of the bow a little.
From what I had understood in my research, the arrow would not follow a straight line to the target. Because of gravity, its trajectory would be a curve.
'So... it would basically be a shot with a parabolic trajectory.' I thought.
Suddenly, the large white rabbit's ears stood up and it stopped eating grass.
'It noticed me!'
When the large white rabbit looked in my direction, my heart raced.
The persistent fear almost made me lose my composure, but then, the skill [Gamer's Mind] calmed me down.
By the way, this is the configuration of this skill.
[Gamer's Mind (Passive) Max Level]
[Allows the user to think logically and calmly about situations. Allows a state of mental peace. Immunity against psychological effects.]
Taking a deep breath and sighing, my eyes regained focus.
'Now!'
When I saw the rabbit jump in my direction more than 2 meters high, I didn't hesitate and released the bowstring.
The sound it made wasn't very loud; one could say it was even quieter than a simple slap on the back of the hand.
Grabbing another arrow, I nocked it on the bow and drew.
In the meantime while I was doing that, the arrow I had shot earlier passed about 30 cm away from the large white rabbit.
'Damn!' I cursed, even though I expected not to succeed on my first attempt.
The rabbit seemed smarter than I had imagined; instead of high jumps, it was now making smaller jumps, but propelling itself even farther forward. Not only that, it was also always jumping in a zigzag.
'Don't get discouraged. Didn't I already know it would be difficult from the start?'
No matter how precise it seemed, without proper training and at least a bit of luck, there's no way to hit it on the first try. Especially when the distance was great.
Now that the rabbit had shown itself to be smarter than it seemed, I also needed to act accordingly.
The arrow was fired silently.
This time, I was confident.
[You inflicted 123 damage]
The arrow only grazed the face of the large white rabbit a little.
That amount of damage didn't even manage to decrease 10% of the large white rabbit's life.
"Scream!"
A sharp and terrifying sound is emitted by the large white rabbit. Its red eyes become even fiercer.
At that exact moment, I had already managed to draw a third arrow.
"Die!" I let my anger escape for the moment.
An arrow was fired once more.
[Critical Damage!]
[You inflicted 965 damage]
"SCREAM!"
A pitiful scream.
Half of its life was gone.
"Hahaha."
A little laugh escaped my lips.
I pulled another arrow from the quiver.
The large white rabbit that had been hit in the left shoulder fell heavily to the ground.
When it tried to get up, although 50% of its life still remained in theory, the wound weakened it considerably.
I approached. I didn't want to miss.
Although wounded, at the end of the day, it was a rabbit, and on top of that, a very large and powerful rabbit. If given time, it could jump in my direction; although I have weapons now, I want to try as much as possible not to get hurt this time.
"Scream!"
A desperate and fierce scream. The large white rabbit acted just as I had predicted, jumping in my direction like a suicidal attack.
I stopped and waited. When I saw the best chance to shoot, I released the arrow.
[You inflicted 437 damage]
I saw before my eyes the life of the large white rabbit drop to less than 20%. The arrow went through the open mouth of the creature.
I jumped to the side and dodged.
The creature fell onto the grassy ground, sliding with the fall.
The inventory was opened and I quickly put the bow in with one hand and took out the lumberjack axe with the other.
Raising the axe, I advanced toward the creature.
Whoosh!
[Critical Damage!]
[You inflicted 538 damage]
[You obtained 690 EXP.]
[Level Up!]
I saw the blood of the large white rabbit spray when the blade of the axe struck it in the neck, cutting the head off.
I felt a slight nausea, but I felt a bit better when the body of the large white rabbit simply turned to ash.
'Just as I imagined!'
When I saw two red orbs being left behind, I became even more convinced that it was the "Pocket Hunting Dimension".
'Huh?'
Something strange caught my attention.
'Is this... Meat?'
My surprise at seeing that couldn't be hidden.
I should have predicted that the existence of my player system would somehow affect even this dimension, after all, I was able to level up, even use something like an inventory.
Thanks to that, even being at level 1, I was able to hunt a level 10 creature.
'But... Is it serious that it dropped meat?'
[Large White Rabbit Meat (Consumable Item)]
[Origin]: Obtained by killing a Large White Rabbit.
[Description]:
[For every 100 grams consumed]:
[Increases from 0.1 to 0.5 points in attributes randomly.]
[Small fixed bonus of HP and MP.]
There were exactly 2 kilos of rabbit meat.
Opening the inventory, I stored it.
Then, I extended my hand and picked up the two orbs. The instant they came into contact with my fingers, the red light orbs disappeared, but I didn't panic. I knew exactly what had happened.
By the way, before disappearing, I was able to observe the item's information.
[Red Orb (Consumable Item)]
[Origin]: Obtained by killing a Large White Rabbit.
[Description]:
[Sphere the size of a cherry that emits a weak red glow. When touching it, it transmits a pleasant sensation of warmth. Can be stored without restriction.]
[Effect upon Ingesting (1 unit)]:
[The red light transforms into a flow of hot energy that merges with the body.]
[Attributes conferred (per unit)]:
[Random increase of 0.1 up to even 3 points of your attributes randomly.]
[Small fixed bonus of HP and MP.]
Just as I imagined, the effect is similar to the rabbit meat.
The only real difference would be the form of ingestion. While for the spheres I only needed to swallow them, for the rabbit meat I would need to prepare it, after all, I wouldn't like to eat it raw. Not to mention that, there's the digestion time. Because it's meat, the process of increasing attributes might be slower.
Obviously, I don't expect that upon consuming the red orbs, my attributes increase instantly. At least not completely.
I imagine it's something like me consuming one of the red orbs and my attributes starting to increase every second, maybe minutes.
Whatever it is, I'm happy just knowing that I have one more way to strengthen myself, after all, this world is more dangerous than it seems.
And, I can't expect that I won't be noticed as my strength increases. Just as I also don't want to stop getting stronger out of fear of being noticed.
'In the end, I can only do my best to strengthen myself.'
After reorganizing my thoughts, I began collecting the arrows I had used earlier.
Although I had a reasonable quantity of arrows, this was something good to have.
Not to mention that, while there isn't any... Although it shouldn't be that, but let's call them monsters anyway. Anyway, while there isn't even one monster nearby, I want to try to obtain a skill for using bow and arrow.
