The sound of the alarm blaring forced Dominic awake.
Dominic stretched out his hand, searching for his phone, and turned it off.
“Already?” he muttered.
He sat up and looked at the city’s skyline while scratching his neck.
“Time to get up…”
It’s been exactly a month since he joined B.O.G.S.
and two weeks since his last attack; it’s been alright, to say the least.
Training with Derrick has been hectic.
Who would have guessed that such a burly-looking man would move so fast?
But he’s learning a lot.
Adrian always leaves a few helpful tips on how to control his resonance and how he could use it.
And as annoying as Dominic finds Adrian to be, he’s incredibly helpful and has helped with his growth.
Saron always checked on his progress, and Jason was always there to patch him up.
He looked at his reflection as he brushed his teeth…
Living with Adrian is interesting, to say the least.
He knew Adrian was rich but not rich enough to live in a penthouse in one of the most expensive apartment buildings in the city.
It’s a nice place of luxury, and it is surprisingly homey.
Speaking of Adrian…
He is a surprisingly busy person.
He was always out of the house before Dominic woke up, and he’d return long after he’d fallen asleep.
It’s worrying.
Dominic sat on the kitchen island with his cup noodles, eating them with a blank expression as he looked at the cute, fluffy white Samoyed dog in front of him.
The dog’s tongue was out as he panted, waiting expectantly for Dominic to give him a bite of his food.
“Roof…” The dog barked.
“No, Brave, I can’t give you any more instant noodles; they’ll give you a tummy ache…”
Brave looked sideways at him, then began to whine pitifully.
“No,” Dominic said in warning.
“Don’t look at me that way…”
His heart was softening, but he had to remain strong.
Brave stood using Dominic’s legs as support and then barked again.
I am weak…
Dominic patted Brave as he ate the small portion of noodles given to him.
So cute and fluffy… I might die from this.
He breathed in.
“I should get going,” he said.
“…And that’s a wrap!” Derrick said, clapping.
Dominic relaxed and began stretching.
“You’ve improved,” Derrick said, handing Dominic a bottle of water.
“Thanks,” Dominic replied, collecting the water.
“You’re a good teacher.”
He opened the bottle and began to chug it.
“So, when will you start going on missions?” Derrick asked.
“Maybe tomorrow,” Dominic responded.
“Saron says I’m good enough.”
“Okay, okay…” Derrick said, nodding.
“Derrick,” Dominic called.
“Yeah.”
“I’m curious, how do you know Saron and about B.O.G.S.?” Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.
“It’s a long story…
It started a few months after my service in the military,” Derrick started.
“I had just opened my cafe, and business was moving quite slowly…
Saron visited my shop for some coffee.
She had just joined B.O.G.S.
and was as serious as she is now.”
Derrick looked dazed; his voice softened as he spoke about Saron.
Dominic looked at him with a strange look on his face.
Am I about to listen to his sappy love story?
“What?” Derrick asked in confusion.
“You’re a simp…” Dominic replied, his voice filled with slight amusement.
“You are in love with Saron…”
Derrick was flustered.
“I mean…” he said, scratching the back of his neck.
“It was love at first sight…
Have you seen her?
She’s beautiful…
and so smart…
and just amazing.”
Dominic looked awkward.
Why is he telling me about his crush?
“Anyway…” Derrick coughed, noticing the weird look on Dominic’s face, and feeling embarrassed.
“At the time, I didn’t know what B.O.G.S was; I thought it was some kind of tech company, you know, those with the quirky names…
Out of line…
Anyways—Saron visited my shop a few times, and we had sort of become well acquainted…”
Dominic nodded.
In short, you asked her on a date and were friend-zoned…
Got it.
“Then I was caught up in the middle of a blight attack…
A few blights had escaped the laminar zone and began to attack people…
Of course, I didn’t know what they were then…
and I jumped in trying to impress her.
You know, shoot my shot.”
“You most definitely tried to punch it, didn’t you?” Dominic said, now feeling embarrassed for what Derrick was about to say.
“What?
No,” Derrick replied.
“I grabbed my gun from my truck and shot it…
I wasn’t going to touch that thing with my hand.”
“Then what happened?” Dominic asked, and he was interested in what happened next
“I was thrown through a wall…
Broke my arm, and had a concussion…
Fortunately, I wasn’t part of its diet, or I’d be long dead…
But it was worth it.”
“Was it?” Dominic asked, suspiciously.
“Sort of…” Derrick replied. This chapter was taken from g.com without permission.
“Don’t get me wrong, it did hurt a lot…
but knowing Saron carried me after the incident and seeing her by my side after I woke up made it worth it…
Plus, she took care of me.”
Oh, something most definitely happened between them.
“After I healed, I tried to get into B.O.G.S., I even got a contract with a spirit–”
“Wait, wait, you have a contract?” Dominic interrupted.
“Yes, but no…
Saron stopped me before I could, and I was scolded…
It was embarrassing.
So a few months later, I met my most loyal customer, Adrian…
He’s weird.”
Dominic scoffed.
“Tell me about it,” he said.
“Yeah, he used to date Joanne, you know…”
“What?!” Dominic exclaimed in disbelief.
“That guy had a girlfriend?”
“Yeah, several in fact…
Don’t tell Adrian I told you this stuff.
But man, kid’s got game despite being a silly little guy…”
“Silly little guy..?” Dominic laughed.
“Yeah…
He’s a silly little guy.
You know he’s blind, right?”
Dominic stopped laughing.
“Nah, you’re playing with me?”
“You didn’t know?” Derrick said in surprise, then he began to laugh.
“Don’t worry, you’ll learn more along the way…”
What does that mean…?
“Miss, it would soon be time to leave.”
A young woman stood before several people in front of a farm.
“Just a moment,” she said, raising her hand.
Her luscious, brown locks floated in the air as the tattoo resembling tree roots on her back began to glow.
Crops sprouted from the ground, and the people shouted in jubilation.
She was pulled away before the people could fully thank her.
“We are on a tight schedule, Roxanne.
You can’t always do whatever you want just because you feel like it.”
She was scolded.
“Sorry,” she apologised politely.
“They just asked for some help, and–”
“Save it…” Her manager said coldly.
Roxanne sighed.
“Where are we going?” she asked.
“Seasburg…”
Roxanne’s eyes brightened up.
“Really?” she said excitedly.
Her agent doesn’t respond, but it didn’t matter.”
Saesburg, here I come.
