Why am I not surprised he owns a yacht…?

They stood on a yacht, and the rough waves rocked the boat harshly.

Dominic and Jason looked at what seemed to be a luxury resort offshore on an island through binoculars.Full novel: Echoes of Ashen Graves — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“That place,” Adrian whispered.

There was something in his tone.

Discomfort?

Confusion?

“Tell me your senses are malfunctioning.”

“No,” Jason said in annoyance.

He held back the urge to throw up.

“You asked me to track, I did, a thank you would suffice.”

Adrian tried not to laugh.

“Of course,” he said.

“Thank you.”

I’ve heard of this place… It was still under construction two years ago, wasn’t it?

“Wasn’t this a former quarantine zone for tuberculosis around two hundred and fifty years ago?” Dominic asked.

“It’s supposed to be,” Adrian replied.

“A historical site turned resort.

How ironic; a vacation spot on a graveyard…”

He frowned deeply, his body was stiff as he looked at the resort.

Dominic was concerned; he reached to touch him, but stopped.

“Are you—”

“I’m fine,” Adrian responded calmly.

“I guess I shouldn’t be surprised this is probably where those blights came from,” he said.

“Why is that?” Dominic asked.

“Well, my dearest Dominic—”

“Don’t say my name like that—”

“This location is very well known among our community for being a spot of negative spiritual energy… the tuberculosis epidemic may have ended long ago, but the dead know how to make their presence known.”

“Well, that’s creepy,” Dominic muttered.

“Is it?” Adrian responded.

“Personally, I find it fascinating.”

“What are we going to do?

We can’t just get on the island,” Jason said.

Adrian sighed.

“Hold on,” he said, waving his hands.

A phone appeared in his hand.

“Call Jade!” he said to the phone.

“Calling Jade…”

“Who’s Jade?” Jason asked, having never heard of this person.

“The mercenary that tried to kill us not too long ago…” Adrian said, casually.

“Remember, Dominic, I snapped her neck.”

“Yeah,” Dominic muttered.

It seems Mikeala was right… What the heck?

Is this some kind of power move on his side?

“Another one, huh?” Jason said, unsurprised.

“Why do you keep doing that?”

“Why are you of all peop— Oh, hello…?”

The call was answered.

“I thought I called Jade… Who am I speaking to… Quincy?

Why are you with my assistant’s phone?”

Dominic and Jason looked at each other.

“Who’s Quincy?” Dominic asked.

“I dunno,” Jason shrugged in reply.

They voiced their complaint because I was present and was ruining their plans.

I have left.

What else do they want?”

Adrian groaned.

“Even if they tell Saron, I’m not coming back… I’m not listening— Quincy, Quincy!

I will say this once, and don’t make me repeat myself: give the phone to Jade.”

He sounded calm, the entire time, but his body language told a very different story.

He was gritting his teeth in frustration and looked like he wanted to punch someone.

A faint flush had spread across his otherwise pale face.

“Yes, Jade…?

I need reservations at the former quarantine zone off Saesburg’s shore.

Three guests.

Four days.

Okay, okay, good.

Bye.”

Adrian hung up, took a deep breath, and smiled, turning to them.

“Well, that solves one of our problems.”

“Three nights, isn’t it going to be too costly?” Dominic asked.

“I don’t know… I have quite a bit of money which I don’t spend, so it’s not that big of a deal,” Adrian replied casually.

Every day, I’m torn between being a hater and admiration.

“Let’s get back to shore before the storm.”

William sat in his car, outside the B.O.G.S building, waiting patiently for Dominic to come out.

The rain thundered against his windshield hard enough to blur the city lights.

He checked the time on his watch, 6:30 pm.

I know he’s supposed to be done.

He looked up again, and there they were.

Adrian and Dominic ran outside and towards the car.

Not a drop of rain touched either of them before they got to the car, with them sitting next to each other.

“Well, well, well,” Adrian said, once he entered.

“I never thought you’d wait for that long.”

So it was intentional…

William waited for two hours outside B.O.G.S for them to come out of the building.

“You’re insufferable,” he said.

“Don’t be surprised,” Adrian replied.

“Shall we?”

Cousin… He looks like Cassandra.

Not that it’s surprising, they are family.

“So, what do you want, William?” Adrian asked.

“I’m certain it’s not to introduce your cousin to the family… It’s not too late for that, by the way.”

“I didn’t come for that,” William replied, his eyes on the road as he drove.

He glances at Dominic through the rearview mirror.

“My mother told me you two met this morning,” he said.

Of course, she’s his mom.

Why else would they look alike?

“Yes,” Dominic responded.

“She’s a nice lady.”

William didn’t respond to that.

“I came to warn you,” he said.

“About what?” Adrian asked.

“I’m surprised you don’t know,” William said.

“Considering your whole deal is being a know-it-all.”

“You’re not my priority,” Adrian replied.

“Your life is none of my business.”

William glanced at him.

“My uncle, Gerald—” Find the original chapter at novelping.com.

“The arrogant ass-licker?” Adrian asked.

William’s grip tightened around the steering wheel.

“Can’t you be serious for once?”

“I am,” Adrian replied.

“Was my statement wrong?”

William didn’t respond.

“He is coming to Saesburg,” he said.

The air stilled.

“Is he now?” Adrian said.

He sounded serious.

“Is that a bad thing?” Dominic asked, glancing at him.

“Well, he’s called mad dog for a reason,” Adrian replied.

“I suppose he’s coming for Dominic?”

“He wants to force an awakening, uncaring whether or not he lives,” William explained.

“What?”

“He wants to make you awaken, and with how unstable you are, death is almost certainly inevitable,” Adrian explained seriously.

“Did you tell Saron before coming to tell us?”

“What do you think?

She knew before me, Gerald got her permission.”

“Well, fuck,” Adrian cursed.

Dominic blinked in surprise.

Never thought I’d hear him curse… Must be serious to warrant that kind of reaction from him.

“Am I doomed?”

“Unlikely,” Adrian replied.

“Although we can’t hope for Saron to interfere.”

“As long as Gerald doesn’t violate any peace treaty laws, she won’t interfere… And knowing him, a few are going to be broken.”

Dominic swallowed hard.

Well, this just got a whole lot complicated…

“Don’t worry, we are going to come up with a plan, aren’t we, William?” Adrian said.

“We?” William said.

“I didn’t think I’d be part of the pla—”

Dominic’s ears rang.

The air inside the car suddenly felt too heavy to breathe.

Faint wails echoed from nowhere and everywhere at once.

Tiny cracks spread across the windows.

Wisps of darkness curled from Adrian’s body like smoke.

He felt hands around his neck, tightening, slowly suffocating him.

“I rescind my statement,” William said, sweat dripping from his forehead.

The pressure disappeared in an instant.

“Good.”

That was Adrian’s resonance…?

Dominic suddenly understood why people were afraid of him.

“Are you okay?” Adrian asked.

“I’m sure I frightened you a bit.”

“No, not at all,” Dominic replied.

He lied.

How could he not be afraid?

He thought Adrian’s resonance was creepy, but it was never that suffocating.

If I can hear it, just how loud is his resonance normally?

Does this mean Adrian has an unstable resonance?

He looked at Adrian; he must have been staring for a long time because Adrian said, “You’re staring a hole into my head.”

“Sorry.”

It doesn’t matter; it’s not like he did anything bad in particular.
