[To put it simply, Garbage] the Archive delivered its verdict on the first result.

I looked at what I've got

{Null Craft}

Description: A Method to craft empty spaces in external environments, Temporary enclosed geometric spaces.

Limitations: 1.) Spaces crafted are unstable and only remain 20 seconds at max before vanishing.

Method: Concentrate and Think of space before you, mold it with your intent into the shape you want

Mastery: 0%

( 1/5 )

[EDIT]

The word sat there like it had done something wrong.

[ EDIT]

Not glowing. Not pulsing. Just a faint little prompt under a very unimpressive art, waiting for someone to make a worse decision than the one that had created them.

"Explain," I said.

[Clarify the scope of your confusion,] the Archive replied. [Is it the existence of the button, your urge to press it, or your life choices leading up to this moment?]

"All three, But start with the button."

[The EDIT function is a restricted interface for modifying fragmentary arts, skills, and techniques obtained through the Wheel of Fortune.] A pause. [It is experimental].

"Experimental as in—you know what you're doing but there may be side effects," I said, "or experimental as in no one signed off on this and we are already too far in?"

[The second one,] the Archive said. [Obviously.]

I looked back at the panel.

Null Crafting Art — Incomplete (Low Tier)

The description read like a bug report someone had turned into a scripture.

Null Crafting: temporary spatial constructs that collapsed after twenty seconds.

I got the feeling that this was somehow built to fail.

I focused on the art. The panel expanded slightly, text sharpening.

"Walk me through how this is supposed to work," I said.

[Null Crafting takes ambient spatial null—] the Archive began.

"In small words," I said. "Pretend I'm a bureaucrat."

[.......]

There was a pause, long enough to be petty.

[The method allows the user to create empty shapes out of space itself,] it said finally. [Bridges, barriers, steps, supports. Anything you think is simple enough. They form quickly and vanish quickly. They are meant as temporary tools.]

"Tools I can't use because I will pass out before I build a staircase," I said. "And even if I did, it would vanish while I was on it."

[Correct. Hence: garbage.]

I thought about that. About UPSC mock tests that had questions built to waste time, about trap options that existed solely to see if you'd read the syllabus or just chewed the guidebook.

"What does EDIT do, precisely?" I asked. "What are the limits?"

[It allows the user to make conceptual adjustments to aspects of the art: description, constraints, progression logic.] The Archive hesitated. [Within reason.]

"What is 'within reason'?"

[Undefined.]

I looked at the faint button again.

In my previous life, there had been a kind of question I liked: not the ones that tested whether you'd memorized facts, but the ones where the examiner had clearly been clever and left a method hidden in the wording. If you saw it, the question unfolded. If you didn't, you drowned in your own handwriting.

Both these arts felt like that. Broken on purpose.

I tapped EDIT.

The window did not explode. It did, however, change.

The text blurred, then fractured into lines. Each line gained a faint bracket at its end, like [] next to a poorly filled field in an online form.

[EDIT]

Warning: Excessive or incoherent modifications may cause severe Karmic Backlash

[So,] the Archive said, [you have limited opportunities to break it further.]

The words mattered. In games, tags and categories were not flavour.

They were how the system decided what stacked with what, which passives applied, what quests recognized .

Since the art itself did not require an energy pool. That was good. I had no energy pool. What I did have was a body that needed a support more than it needed stairs.

"Range," I murmured.

[Yes?] the Archive said.

"Does effect of the art only apply outside the body '?"

[Currently, yes. That is what 'external environment means.]

"Currently," I repeated.

My ribs ached when I breathed too deeply. My left lobe was thirty-one percent functioning. The right one was doing overtime. What if, instead of building steps in air, the art built support around the parts of me that were failing?

Not permanent. Not healing. Just… a temporary structure for a process which happens in moments.

In my mind the crude idea of a bridge pulled inward, wrapped around a lung like a virtual structure. A mesh of space holding the air instead of damaged tissue steady.

Temporary. Twenty seconds hell even Ten seconds would suffice

But ten seconds were a heartbeat, a breath, a cycle.

What if the point were not used to make something that lasted, but something that was easy to rebuild?

I edited the first line adding [and internal] in front of external.

[Cost of Editing: 300 Karmic Coins, Proceed?]
