ELUX : TALES OF HAILS AND FAILS

*Chapter 9: The Anchor*

The sky was screaming.

Twelve fractures tore across World-7B at once. Blue light poured out of each one like rivers. The air tasted like metal and ozone.

Elux stood in the center of it all, arms raised. The light wasn’t coming from him anymore. It was coming _through_ him.

He could feel them.

World-3. The monk, opening his eyes in a temple.

World-12. The pilot, hands on a dead stick as his ship broke apart.

World-Prime. A version of himself in Lagos, selling phone chargers on the street.

All of them. Awake. Breathing. Burning.

And with each one that woke, more power flooded back into Elux.

“Resonance is off the charts,” Director Lin shouted over the noise. “You’re not just a bridge anymore. You’re the network.”

Seven fired into the swarm of Nulls pouring through the main fracture. “Then the network needs to move! They’re targeting her!”

He was right.

The Nulls weren’t coming for Elux.

They were coming for his mom.

She stood behind the medics, calm. The small metal coin Director Lin gave Elux was in her palm now. Warm.

Three Nulls dropped through the ceiling without making a sound.

“Get down!” Seven yelled.

Elux didn’t move. He didn’t have to.

The moment the first Null raised its arm, Elux felt it. He felt the attack in World-3, in World-12, in every world at once.

He pulled.

The soldier echo surged.

The runner echo surged.

The fire echo surged.

All twelve at once.

Elux turned. His hand came up.

Time stopped.

For him.

The three Nulls froze mid-step. Elux walked between them. He touched the first one on the chest. It turned to dust. The second. Dust. The third. Dust.

Time started again.

The dust hit the floor.

Seven lowered his gun. “Okay. That’s new.”

Elux walked to his mom. The glow in his eyes dimmed to a soft blue.

“You’re leaking again,” she said. She reached up and touched his cheek. Her hand was warm. Human. “It hurts?”

“No,” Elux said. “It’s quiet. For the first time, it’s quiet.”

Because he could hear them now. All the other Eluxes. Not screaming. Not dying.

Standing.

Director Lin pulled up a new map. The red dots had changed. They weren’t converging on World-7B anymore.

They were spreading out.

“Every world with a version of you now has Null signatures,” she said. “The King split its forces. It’s going to try to kill you one world at a time.”

“So we do it one world at a time,” Seven said.

Elux shook his head. “No.”

He closed his eyes.

He reached out through the network. Through every fracture he’d opened.

_Can you hear me?_ he sent.

Twelve voices answered. _We hear you._

_Then listen,_ Elux said. _The Nulls are coming to you. Don’t fight them alone. Fight them together. Through me._

He felt understanding pass across the network. Agreement.

In World-3, the monk stood and picked up a wooden staff.

In World-12, the pilot rerouted power to the engines.

In Lagos-Prime, the street vendor dropped his chargers and rolled his shoulders.

All of them felt it. The same strength. The same speed. The same fire.

Borrowed. Shared.

Elux opened his eyes. The blue light was back, but different. It wasn’t leaking. It was contained. Controlled.

“The anchor,” Director Lin said softly. “That’s what Nanjue meant. Not just your mom. You. You’re anchoring all of them.”

Elux looked at his mom. “I need you to stay here. With them.”

She nodded once. “I’m not going anywhere, my son.”

A new sound cut through the air. Deeper. Heavier.

The main fracture in the sky widened.

And through it, something stepped.

Taller than the Nulls. Armor white instead of black. No face. Just a smooth mask that reflected the blue light back at them.

It didn’t walk. It _unfolded_ into the world.

The temperature dropped.

“Null King,” Seven whispered. “It’s here.”

The Null King tilted its head. It looked at Elux. Then at his mom.

And it spoke. Not with a mouth. With every mind in the room.

_You should have let us erase you, Subject 13. Now you will watch every version of yourself die. Starting with her._

It raised a hand.

Elux didn’t flinch.

He reached out through the network and took hold of twelve other hands.

“Try it,” Elux said.

The blue light in his eyes became a blaze.

And the fight for the multiverse began.
