So were Beta, Gamma, Delta, Epsilon, Zeta, and Eta.

Shino, Alpha, Beta, and Delta arrived at Gamma’s location.

He wrapped one billion zeni in magic and set it on the carriage.

“Alpha, Beta, Gamma — you three go ahead.

Delta and I will stay behind to hold them off.”

They’d started it.

Shino wasn’t going to let them finish it.

He hadn’t wanted to steal the money.

But when the other side made the first move to rob him, he wasn’t about to hold back.

“Phantom, I will protect this one billion zeni!” Alpha vowed.

After Alpha and the other two left with the money, Shino didn’t dispel the barrier.

Delta, use your nose.

Sniff out any survivors.

Delta sniffed the air.

“There really is a survivor!

Master, you’re amazing, you already knew there’d be one!”

She led him to the densest pile of corpses.

She was about to kill the one playing dead when Shino stopped her.

“Delta needs to be more obedient.

No killing without orders.”

“Understood!”

“Remember what I said.

If you act without orders, the punishment is that Delta doesn’t eat for a day.”

“Ah!

Can you change the punishment?

Punish Delta by making her give Master a child instead!”

Shino flicked her right on the forehead.

“You’re dreaming too sweetly.”

Delta rubbed her head, looking genuinely hurt.

“Back in the pack, women who made mistakes were punished by being given away to have children!” she explained indignantly.

“This isn’t your old pack.

My word is the rule here.”

“Yes, Master, I understand.”

Shino turned his attention to the corpse lying beneath several others.

“How long are you planning to play dead?”

He drew his Slime Sword and lifted the body on top.

The survivor Delta had found had a massive wound right where his heart should be, completely pierced through.

“Keep playing dead, and I’ll kill you.”

No reaction.

“Maybe Delta was wrong.

Whatever — I’ll just cut him down anyway.”

Shino swung.

The corpse felt the killing intent and started thrashing.

Shino took a closer look.

“This guy…

he’s the first one Delta killed.

Delta remembers piercing right through his heart!

Why is he still alive?”

“That would be because my heart is on the right side!”

The Royal Knight Order Commander stared hard at Shino and Delta.

Then he heard hoofbeats.

“You’re both dead!”

As his words fell, every bird in the distant forest took flight.

Shino looked into the distance.

Thousands of armored soldiers on horseback were charging toward them.

He snapped his fingers and dispelled the magic barrier.

The soldiers thundered in, surrounding Shino and Delta.

“These are our kingdom’s Magic Armor Knights!

They have extremely high resistance to magic swordsmen’s slashing attacks!” the commander announced.

Shino snapped his fingers again.

The barrier reappeared, covering everyone.

“Delta, the slaughter feast begins.

Don’t kill that half-crippled guy on the ground.

Kill everyone else.”

“Delta understands!”

Shino left the area.

He didn’t like the thick smell of blood.

What followed was a one-sided massacre.

The Magic Armor Knights were tough for ordinary magic swordsmen to handle.

Against Delta, they were useless.

Every time she attacked, she tore through armor and flesh alike.

The other soldiers couldn’t even land a hit.

Delta was a wolf among sheep.

This was her personal hunting ground.

Half an hour later, she came to Shino’s side, covered in blood.

“Master, except for that guy, everyone’s been dealt with.”

“Drag him over.

I have questions.”

“Got it!”

When Delta dragged the Royal Knight Order Commander over, the man had already gone mad.

“It’s all fake, all of it’s fake!

Fake, fake, fake!”

He kept repeating it like a broken record.

“Keep pretending to be crazy, and I’ll kill you.”

No reaction.

Shino cut off his limbs.

Still nothing.

He’d wanted to ask who was behind the plan to steal the zeni.

But since it had come to this, not knowing was fine.

“Delta — dispose of him, then wash up in the river.

Catch up after.”

Delta was filthy.

“Understood!”

She used her nose to find the nearest river and went to clean herself.

Shino destroyed every trace of the carriage’s passage, erasing all signs along the route Alpha had taken.

He did it to avoid trouble.

He wasn’t afraid of it, but he didn’t like it either.

If he could avoid it, he would.

Soon, both Shino and Delta caught up with Alpha.

On the way back, they only ran into three groups of bandits.

They’d cleared most of them out on the way there, so the numbers were much smaller.
