Chapter 10: The Second -

Entertainment Creator System: Building an Anime Empire

Haruki learned another important lesson about being a creator: finishing the first Chapter felt amazing. Finishing the second felt terrifying. The difference surprised him. The first Chapter had been an experiment, a challenge, a personal goal. The second carried expectations — not many, only a handful, but they existed, and somehow that changed everything.

His reader count had reached a hundred sixty-eight. Not enough to attract major attention, more than enough to make him nervous. A hundred sixty-eight people expected a continuation. A hundred sixty-eight people had questions. A hundred sixty-eight people wanted answers, and the thought sat heavily on his shoulders — not unpleasantly, just noticeably.

He looked at the final page of Chapter Two. Ren stood before the ancient gate, and the mysterious voice had offered him a choice: leave and forget, or step forward and discover the truth. Simple decision, but one that changed everything. The Chapter now ended with Ren taking that step — choosing uncertainty, choosing danger, choosing answers. Haruki liked this version far more than the earlier one. The criticism had helped, and that still felt strange to admit. A week ago criticism would’ve annoyed him; now it felt useful. Not all criticism — only the thoughtful kind. The distinction mattered.

His cursor hovered over the upload button. A familiar sight, a familiar source of anxiety — apparently publishing never got less intimidating. Wonderful.

The system appeared.

[Chapter Two Evaluation]

Story Flow: Good Character Agency: Improved Mystery Retention: Strong Reader Interest Prediction: Positive Recommended Action: Publish

Haruki stared at it, then sighed. "You always say that." The system offered no response, because there really wasn’t another answer. Every creator eventually hit the same point — where improvement quietly turned into procrastination.

He clicked. The Chapter uploaded. No fireworks, no dramatic music, no life-changing revelation — the Chapter simply became public. Real readers. Real opinions. Real consequences. The journey continued.

For a few minutes nothing happened. Then one view appeared, then another, then another — the numbers moving slowly, steadily, alive. He found himself smiling again, a habit that was becoming a regular thing.

His phone buzzed. Yui — predictable, comforting, and a little dangerous, all at once.

He answered.

"You published." Not a question. A statement.

He looked at the analytics page. "Yeah."

"How do you feel?"

The question caught him off guard — Yui usually asked about results, not feelings. He thought about it, then answered honestly. "Nervous."

"Good."

He blinked. "What?"

"If you stop being nervous, you’ll stop caring." The answer came immediately, no hesitation, no unnecessary comfort — exactly like her. He considered it, and the logic held up: nervousness wasn’t always weakness. Sometimes it was investment.

The call ended a few minutes later, leaving him alone with the reader count again — a dangerous situation he willingly walked back into.

Hours passed. Chapter Two spread through the small audience Chapter One had gathered, and comments started appearing — more than before, not hundreds, not dozens, but enough.

Ren feels much more active this Chapter.

Haruki stared at that one, then smiled. The criticism had been right. The revision had worked.

The gate mystery is carrying the story hard. Keep going.

The worldbuilding is interesting.

When is Chapter Three?

He laughed — that last one might have been his favorite, because it revealed something important. Readers wanted more, not because the story was finished, but because it wasn’t. The story had momentum. Small momentum, but momentum all the same.

As evening approached, analytics updated again.

Readers: 213

Haruki stared. Two hundred thirteen — the first time he’d crossed two hundred. It felt unreal, not because the number was large, but because the growth had become visible. The audience wasn’t exploding. It was building. Brick by brick, reader by reader, Chapter by Chapter.

A blue notification appeared.

[Milestone Achieved: 200 Readers Reached]

Reward: Creator Points +75 New Feature Available: Audience Growth Tracking Current Creator Points: 270

His eyes widened slightly. Two hundred seventy — a substantial number now. For the first time he seriously considered spending some. Not today. Soon. The system had already proven its value; ignoring useful tools forever would be foolish. A future decision, not a current one.

Outside, night covered Tokyo. Apartment windows glowed across the skyline — thousands of people living their lives beyond his walls, most of whom had never heard of Haruki Amamiya and never would. Yet somewhere among them, more than two hundred readers now knew his story existed. The thought felt strangely powerful — not because of fame, not because of success, but because of connection. Stories connected strangers. One creator, one reader, then another, then another. The process felt almost magical.

Haruki leaned back in his chair. Chapter Two was complete. The audience was growing. The future remained uncertain, but the uncertainty no longer felt frightening. It felt exciting.

Tomorrow he’d begin Chapter Three — new problems, new lessons, new mistakes, new opportunities. For now, he allowed himself a small victory. Not a celebration. Just recognition.

Ten days ago, he’d been a graduate without a direction. Today, he was a creator with readers waiting for his next Chapter.

The journey remained long. But for the first time, he could clearly see the road ahead.
