“You… as long as you understand. If there’s nothing else, please don’t bother me again,” Bai Shinan finally forced out a sentence. This version of Mu Yuwei left him completely thrown off.

“Mm, then I’ll head back now… goodbye.” Mu Yuwei, like a meek little pushover, obediently turned to leave and even secretly waved a small goodbye at Bai Shinan.

Bai Shinan was still a little unused to it. He wanted to tell Mu Yuwei, please, go back to that defiant, untamed version of yourself.Full novel: Even Love Has an Expiration Date—Don’t Chase Me Now — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

But the class bell rang, and even if he wanted to say it, there was no chance.

This fourth period English class might’ve been the most frustrating one Xu Man had ever taught. Every time she looked up, she saw the girls sneaking glances at Bai Shinan.

“Ahem ahem!”

Xu Man coughed so much she nearly developed chronic laryngitis. In the end, she could only tactfully remind them, “Some people, no matter how many times you look at them, will never be yours. But if you look at knowledge a hundred times, it’ll be yours. Focus on your books!”

A wave of heartbreak echoed through the class. Teacher, that’s too brutal. Only then did the girls restrain themselves a little—except for two pairs of eyes that still couldn’t help but glance at him from time to time.

Mu Yuwei placed her hands flat on the desk, a silly smile that just wouldn’t fade from her face. Some people, no matter how many times you look, won’t be yours… but Bai Shinan was hers. No one could take him away.

Zhu Yuyou, on the other hand, was feeling irritable and confused. She didn’t know why. Every time she thought about how that song Bai Shinan sang was meant for Mu Yuwei, her heart felt suffocated, as if someone were squeezing it tight.

As soon as school let out for lunch, Xu Man couldn’t wait to declare the end of class. She couldn’t stay even one second longer.

Mu Yuwei wanted to ask Bai Shinan to have lunch together, but he darted off like smoke and disappeared. She had to give up and consoled herself, it’s okay, they still had lots of time… just like before. New chapters come out on novelping.com first.

During lunch break, Mu Yuwei found out that someone had secretly recorded a video of Bai Shinan singing and uploaded it to the school forum. In just a short time, the video had been pinned to the top.

Mu Yuwei silently clicked save on the video, then opened the comment section. The top comment was from Teacher Xu Man.

[Teacher] Xu Man: This video was recorded during break and did not disrupt regular class time. The intent was to encourage students to practice English pronunciation. Lastly, the student who brought a phone to class should “turn yourself in” before things escalate. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

[Student] Mengmeng Da: Sob sob, Teacher I’m sorry, but it’s not my fault! It’s all Bai Shinan’s fault for being too charming!

[Teacher] Zhou Zhi: If Bai Shinan is interested in pursuing music, he can contact me. My contact info is xxxxxxxx.

[Student] Bai Xiaosheng: Let me share the story behind this song. The original singer of this English song is a man named Chris Medina. He was once a Starbucks employee. He proposed to his girlfriend of eight years, and they were together. But later, the beautiful girl suffered a brain injury in a car accident. After recovery, she had the intelligence of a two-year-old and couldn’t take care of herself. Still, Chris never left her. He joined American Idol, hoping to earn money to give his wife a better life. Though he only made it to the top 24, ‘What Are Words’ became engraved in people’s hearts!

[Student] Sweet & Sour: Just some insider info—this song was sung by Bai Shinan for a certain girl. Some of you might know who she is.

[Student] Junior Girl: So this is the reason why Senior rejected me? Sob sob, I want someone to sing a song like this for me too.

[Student] Wei Guangzheng: I hope Bai Shinan spends more effort on studying instead of chasing girls. By the way, it’s rumored his grades have dropped below 200 because of a relationship. Everyone should learn from this.

[Student] Great Wings: You’re just bitter because you can’t have him. Want to share your real name? I’ll find you offline and settle it one-on-one.

The comment section was a mix of voices. Some criticized Bai Shinan for being flashy and unserious, while others praised him for using entertainment as education and adapting to students’ interests.

Whenever Mu Yuwei saw a comment praising Bai Shinan, she liked it. If someone criticized him, she downvoted it like a little kitten guarding her food bowl. Especially after reading Bai Xiaosheng’s post, her heart grew even sweeter. She didn’t believe for a second that Bai Shinan picked that song randomly—it had to be him trying to tell her something through it.

Hugging her phone, she listened to Bai Shinan’s song for her again. Why did it sound so good? So sweet that she rolled around her bed several times before calming down.

After a while, Mu Yuwei lay flat on her back, staring at the ceiling. She raised her phone, opened Bai Shinan’s profile, tapped the keyboard, and sent a message:

The moment the message was sent, Mu Yuwei flipped her phone face-down on her stomach and silently counted down—three, two, one. In the past, no matter what time it was, even in the middle of the night, Bai Shinan would reply within three seconds.

But even after she counted to thirty, her phone didn’t vibrate. She felt a little discouraged. Did he not see it, or did he not want to reply?

Wait… she remembered she had set Bai Shinan’s messages to silent mode.

She quickly flipped the phone over. In her panic, the phone bounced off her belly and landed beside her. A message popped up on the chat screen.

[Bai Shinan]: What is it?

He replied!

That tsundere brat—clearly he still cared so much, but he insisted on pretending he didn’t. Mu Yuwei hummed a cheerful little tune as she picked up her phone and typed out another line.

[Mu Yuwei]: Nothing, just missed you~?(????w????)?

On the other side, Bai Shinan was just about to lie down for a nap when his phone suddenly started vibrating and buzzing like crazy. He thought it was about to explode—turned out it was just Mu Yuwei messaging him.

He replied with [What is it?], then immediately removed her from his “special notifications” list and changed his unlock and login passwords. After all, using Mu Yuwei’s birthday as a password was basically the same as streaking.

While changing his password, Mu Yuwei sent a second message. He glanced at it and muttered, “Crazy woman,” then instantly switched Mu Yuwei’s chat to silent mode again. He tossed the phone beside his pillow and closed his eyes, resuming his nap.
