That was because the [Genetic Extraction] evolution attribute had a poor 20% chance of success, and that was only after he’d upgraded the attribute to Level 50, with its upgrade cost doubling every level.
So far, this was the first genetic trait he found useful. The system wasn’t messing around this time when it called the snake the Guardian of the Poison God Secret Tome.

But this wasn’t something to cry over, as the hunt had only begun, and the goal was a Tier-5 evolution before he logged out for the day. Though he couldn’t tell how long it had been since he entered the game.

Kaelen frowned slightly at the amount of Evolution Points he absorbed, even with the 10,000× Reward Multiplier still in play.
The first time, it had been 3,000 Evolution Points, but as he evolved beyond his limitations, the Evolution Points absorbed from weaker organic matter were drastically reduced the longer he stayed there, until they no longer benefited him.
He turned and set his sights on the path before him, hoping it would lead him around the mountain to an unexplored jungle of stronger enemies he could hunt.
But until then, whatever crossed his path... would be devoured.
With that, Kaelen dashed forward once more, sprinting across the forest in silence until the first sign of life caught his attention, followed by several more, signaling that he had made it around the mountain... or so he thought.
Before he could set his sights on his first prey, another predator set its sights on him as his danger senses tingled. Using his [Sharp Senses], he detected that a wild boar was charging at him.
They were a considerable distance apart, yet it had still detected him, which told Kaelen this wasn’t one of the Tier-0 or Tier-1 beasts he had been toying with.
A Tier-2 beast had made its appearance, on par with Kaelen’s strength as a Common Slime. And the rule of the jungle stated that the strong always entered every situation with an advantage.
That was Kaelen it was talking about, because his advantage... was the 10,000× Reward System.
He quickly pulled up his system panel and dumped 45 million Evolution Points into upgrading all his evolution attributes to Level 100.
Or should he say... 675 million dollars, to speedrun an entire evolution tier.
"Upgrade!"

A powerful shockwave of pure energy rocked through the forest, blasting dirt into the air and making the surrounding trees sway wildly as though they were worshipping him.
Kaelen felt the excessive energy surging through his body as his size swelled once more. But at that moment, a sharp rustling sound, followed by the pounding of hooves, suddenly rang out from a nearby direction, and before he could react, a bull charged out of the trees.
No, it wasn’t a bull. On closer inspection, it was clearly an overgrown wild boar. The same one Kaelen had detected with his [Sharp Senses] a mile away.
The wild boar closed the distance between itself and the slime in an instant, charging straight through him as its tusks accurately shattered the slime’s core on impact.
"Hehe. Too easy... works every damn time," the boar laughed with a victorious grin.

"Huh...?" Kaelen mused in disbelief.

Kaelen sat there for a moment, staring at the series of notifications before him in a daze.
"Damn!"
He had greatly underestimated the Primordial Plague Gland, simply taking it for an advanced poison sac. But no, the wild boar had charged right into him and had disintegrated before it could come out the other side.
The Primordial Plague Gland had been so potent that it dissolved the wild boar in an instant, before its tusks could even pierce his core, which would have been fatal because everything had happened so fast that he hadn’t even had time to split his core.
He finally focused on his haul from the kill, and the amount of Evolution Points he received almost made him melt onto the ground. But he couldn’t afford to be careless a second time.

He spread his [Sharp Senses] across the surrounding forest, but was stunned when it reached the entire forest, overlooking the whole mountain after being upgraded to Level 100.
The beasts around him had all distanced themselves from the area after his evolution wrecked the trees, but he could tell the position of every single beast in the forest.
Another thing he realized was that he wasn’t around the mountain as he had thought, but was simply beyond his starting point at the slime field, higher up the mountain, which he had never expected to be a dormant volcano.
But that wasn’t what sent chills running down Kaelen’s spine, because nestled inside the volcano, in hibernation, was a beast Kaelen never thought he’d ever see or encounter in Evolution Online.
A rare mythical beast in a world where its slayers could be counted on one hand.
But most importantly, at that critical moment, something in his inventory began reacting to the mythical beast.
Kaelen slowly reached into it and pulled out the item.
It was a map.
One of the very first loot items he had obtained from the wolf pack during the slime field battle.
