Calming down soon after, Felix sighed in relief upon realizing that the figure approaching him was just Hans.
The same couldn’t be said for Hans, though.
Slightly shocked at Felix’s ability to detect his presence while he was still a bit away from him, Hans paused briefly.
Though he wasn’t trying to sneak up on him, even then, most were unable to detect his presence unless he wanted them to. Even his casual walking was difficult to pick up for a mid-Rank individual, much less a mere F-Rank like Felix.
“That hypervigilance of yours is quite something, huh!?”
Recalling how Felix had stated earlier that the reason for this was due to a condition he suffered, which made him extremely vigilant of his surroundings while also being jumpy at times, Hans remarked as he drew closer.
According to Felix, it also had a few other symptoms as well, but for some reason, while he was in this world, they were significantly diminished, or rather reduced, leaving only the hypervigilance, which seemed more active than before, though not as random as in his original world.
Awkwardly scratching the back of his head at the comment, Felix simply gave a wry smile in response.
Glancing at Hans’s figure now standing before him, Felix couldn’t help but wonder as he recalled what he knew so far about him and the Vice-Leader.
There wasn’t really much he knew about Hans, as he hadn’t really known him until he decided to join the group. But from what he did know, Hans had a Class called PyroVenom Mage, or something like that, which enabled his flames to become poisonous when in contact with its target, hence why he was able to create flame serpents earlier while facing the Thorn Howlers.
The exact Rank of his Class, though, Felix wasn’t sure.
Which wasn’t really a surprise, considering most didn’t divulge information about their Rank or Attributes to others, other than the Guild they registered with.
In Felix’s case, however, while he was registering his info at the Guild, the attendant in charge had accidentally blurted it out upon realizing he had registered five Attributes, causing a slight uproar in the guild, at least until they realized he was a mere F-rank.
As for the Vice-Leader, Felix didn’t even know his name, much less the Class or Attributes he possessed. Other than the suspicion that his Attribute was probably something related to a Shadow Bender, or something similar, based on how he was able to manipulate shadows, Felix didn’t really know anything about him.
He also doubted anyone else in the group knew anything important either, with the sole exception of Hans, of course, as he was the one who had put the group together in the first place.
“That reminds me. I’ve been meaning to ask, could you activate your Attribute, the one you used against the Thorn Howlers? There’s something I want to confirm.”
Snapping out of his thoughts at Hans’s request, Felix didn’t see any reason not to.
[Hallow Pods has been activated]
On doing so, tiny glowing pod-like orbs spawned in the air, floating seamlessly as Felix activated the Attribute.
Touching one of the pod-like orbs, Hans stared at it for a while, wondering what exactly about it made the Howlers so wary of it.
Yet despite holding it for a while, nothing happened. There was no burning sensation or anything out of the ordinary that stood out, it simply felt like a tiny floating nightlight.
Sighing in disappointment, Hans let go of the pod, allowing it to float back into the air.
Having probably expected something useful for their journey ahead, Hans concluded that the Howlers had most likely either faced someone with a similar but stronger Attribute that made them instinctively wary of it, or the Attribute was likely to grow into something far more powerful in the future.
‘Too bad it’s still too weak at the moment.’
Though Hans didn’t say this out loud, probably out of consideration for Felix’s feelings, Felix was able to tell from the look on his face as he released the pod.
‘I’m not really a kid inside, you know. So, there’s really no need to worry about those kind of things.’
However, Felix didn’t say this either, as he knew being mistaken for a child had its advantages as well. Those with a bit of conscience would be reluctant to throw him into danger, assuming he was one, so there was no need to correct the misunderstanding, since it worked in his favor… most of the time, at least.
Though Hans had deemed the Attribute weak due to not being visibly noteworthy at first glance, only Felix knew its true capabilities. And compared to all his other Attributes, this was by far one of the most dangerous in his arsenal, if used properly, that is.
Glancing back at Tink, Felix was surprised to find a look of utter terror on her face as she stared forward, her legs trembling slightly as she stood frozen in fear.
The fear in her eyes even surpassed what she had shown when she first met him, with the color completely draining from her face.
Following her line of sight, Felix realized she was staring at none other than Hans.
Initially baffled by the sight, Felix soon realised that a likely reason for this was; Hans being a typical example of a human in this world.
After all, humans were often fond of hunting Fairies for their wings.
Despite being a weak race, it was believed that a Fairy’s wings housed immense amounts of Magic, said to be a vital ingredient in creating a potion that aided in the maintenance of one’s Mana. This allowed users to efficiently utilize their Attributes while consuming only a small portion of their reserves, enabling the use of more Mana-demanding Attributes with minimal cost.
This made Fairies, or more precisely, their wings, one of the most sought-after resources in the world, often leading to them being hunted and killed.
Meaning, Hans would likely kill Tink if he ever became aware of her existence.
