This timing... it's too convenient, is my nagging grandma actually some sort of system admin? Or is the system so OP it can find ideal timing so well?
Well quest 1 already being complete is nice but seems like it's going to continue adding zero's to the end every 5 years... By the time I turn 20 I might need a 1,000,000 people to recognise me...
Fame will come naturally with what I want to do anyway so I shouldn't worry too much about it.
Quest 2, getting a skill to a professional level... seems like I'll have to get singing lessons, maybe I could just do something else entirely, maybe business management counts, I could start up the world's biggest lemonade stand.
Quest 3, getting into a talent academy should be easy as long as I do well in a weekend sport; while I wouldn't say it's easy everywhere, at least here in Australia where girls' sport is getting a massive cash injection and living in a city.
Even if I was bad I'd probably get in from nepotism as Aaron Leonidas' daughter.
Quest 4, the elite class of Elderwood Girls' School. There's an elite class and I have to get in by this year? This isn't just some gifted and talented class is it... I'll have to set it as a goal here then and get grandma's support.
Quest 5... just more bananas, huh. Well good thing I have banana cake with me right now.
Oooh, I just realised I can increase my stats with this quest. This should make getting to 100 way quicker, after all I haven't found a reliable way to increase them as of yet.
I haven't checked my stats in a while, maybe they've already hit 100, I am getting better at chess at a very alarming rate after all.
Stats:
Physical 20 (+4)
Mental 62 (+9)
Charisma 78 (+15)
Abilities:
Prodigious Genius, Fast Reactions, Highway Brain, Angel’s Voice, 1 Second Future Sight (Locked until Mental hits 70), Injury Resistance
Curses:
Desired
My charisma is actually kind of high, I mean I know I'm amazing but am I that amazing?
My mental is also getting close to 70, meaning I can unlock 1 Second Future Sight.
Wait... I completely forgot about Highway Brain. Highway Brain let's me have different actionable streams of thought. With this couldn't I just play against myself in chess and have it actually feel like playing another opponent?
That might just be the best way to further increase my mental stat too.
My physical stat is a bit low but hopefully that's just because I'm young.
"So Luna, what do you want to accomplish by the age of 10?" My stoic grandpa asked.
"Well, I think I can do most of it on my own but, here goes:
Start a YouTube channel for my signing and get to 100,000 subscribers.
Start playing soccer in an actual team not in the backyard, getting into a talent academy.
Get into the elite class of Elderwood Girl's School, uh I wan't to do that, this year.
Join the Olympiad team for Australia in chess.
And finally eat a 1000 bananas."
"Why the bananas?" The nicer grandpa asked.
"Uh... To prove I can accomplish anything, even if it has to be done 1 step at a time."
Whew, I was kind of just reading off the quest list; I forgot that I wouldn't need help with the bananas, other than mom just buying them.
"Hmm, weird goal but good reason. I assume you are aware that some of your goals look unrealistic right Luna?" Stoic grandpa said.
"If you mean making the Olympiad team, I'm quite confident I can at least make it into the youth one, with my current rating I would already qualify, the adult one is what I am aiming for and then eventually best in Australia and then the best in the world."
I mean nothing I said here is a lie, most players in the youth olympiad team don't even have titles and with my current skills, if I were to get a bit lucky with my opponents in a tournament, to get the norms (good performance in high-level tournaments) I'd be able to grab a title.
"Luna we know about your chess skills already and yes we agree. We were more referring to the elite class." Grandma politely stated.
Huh, it can't be that hard to get into, what kind of grown adult wouldn't be able to qualify if they were testing for elite status as if they were only 5 years old?
"I'm super smart, why wouldn't I be able to get into the elite class?" I asked genuinely puzzled.
Mom answered, "Sweetie, the elite class is for high school students who want to learn 6 years of content in 3."
Oh so it should be fine for me to go in then.
It's been about a month since my birthday and after much discussion with the family they agreed to me applying for the elite program, under the condition that I go to university afterwards.
While they didn't say anything about what degree they want me going for it seemed very much like they wanted me to do something in business.
They don't want me to run the company right? That'd be so much effort and wouldn't leave me time do all my other stuff.
I don't have any major events happening until the end of the year for the big chess tournament and right after that I'll be starting school.
Well today at least I have something happening and that'd be my first singing lesson.
Dora
The shy woman in front of me is apparently best friends with mom, I think I've even seen her around the house before when I was just born but I haven't seen her since then.
Mom didn't tell me much but apparently she's a professional singer. I mean what else could I ask for from a singing instructor.
"Hey Luna, I'm Dora and I'll be teaching you how to sing, from what your mother's told me you are already really good, so if you are comfortable could you sing a song you know for me?"
Woah, she's so soft spoken and polite, no wonder mom and her are best friends.
"Sure, I only know a few songs so I'll go for the one I know best."
After saying that I grabbed the living room hairbrush that mom always leaves out in hopes that I'll brush my hair. Which I'll never do but it's pretty convenient to use as a microphone.
"Now he's thinkin' 'bout me every night, oh
Is it that sweet? I guess so
Say you can't sleep, baby, I know
That's that me espresso"
As I was singing I noticed Dora had a look of shock in her face which she quickly composed.
Heh she must think I'm the best singer on the planet. After all I do have the busted abilility Angel's Voice which calms down anyone listening.
So even if my singing is trash the emotional impact of calming people will make them feel the impact of the song rather than listen to the music itself.
"Move it up, down, left, right, oh
Switch it up like Nintendo
Say you can't sleep, baby, I know
That's that me espresso"
As I got the 2nd verse I noticed Dora's face seemed to be in contemplation, as if realising something obvious.
"I can't relate to desperation
My give-a-fucks are on vacation
And I got this one boy, and he won't stop callin'
When they act this way, I know I got 'em"
"Haa... Stop, stop." Dora said with exasperation.
Why does she seem so disappointed?
"Did I do something wrong?" I asked.
"Well, you're voice itself is so good that it hides all the problems you have. First of all have you ever actually learnt how to sing?"
"Uhh, no I'm just singing isn't that how everyone does it?"
In my previous life I had a very monotone voice and no matter how I tried to sing it would always sound the same and at most I could go the extremes of Mickey Mouse or Batman type voices if I tried to go in between my voice would crack immediately.
"Alright well first of all drop your jaw more, you can't go through your full vocal range with it only just open."
"Oh, Oooh, woo, wee, ooo, aaaa."
Oh my it actually works.
"Yes, just like that well done Luna. To further practice I want you to count upwards going through your vocal range. Try and go up a note with each number."
"1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, inhale, 7, 8 ,9-"
"Stop!" Dora interrupted, "Another thing, when singing don't take breaths in between. When sounding it out you can actually do small inhales and exhales, that way you won't need to take in a big breath in between words. When on stage if you move the microphone away everytime you need to breathe people are going to notice."
Oh my, Dora seems really good at this.
"Dora! Dora! Can you sing a song for me so I can see how it's done." I asked with excitement.
"Uhhh... yeah, I'll sing the song you just did and show you how to go through it."
And like that somehow my singing skill hit the professional level after just 1 training session.
Heh, reminds of me a certain quote, 'hard work beats talents when talent doesn't work hard.'
It was quite hard to get mom to agree to get a singing instructor for me after all but truly hard work does pay off.
I also tried using Highway Brain to play chess against myself and I still ended up getting draws. It's almost like I'm playing against myself, tch.
It's not fair. Oh and also it gave me a bit of a headache which I didn't really like.
Life can be really unfair at times you know.
