When Kai reached the Kreacher’s Block, which was actually a whole city in itself surrounded by towering barriers, he found someone waiting for him outside Gate Number Three, just as the man had stated during their call.
"Here is your payment. Thank you." Kai paid the taxi driver before getting out of the car.
His attention was immediately drawn to the man standing before him with a bright smile.
A red wine suit this early in the morning should have looked rather foolish, but somehow, it suited the man perfectly. His sharp yet elegant features made the bold color seem almost natural on him.
Dark green eyes gazed at Kai from beneath neatly combed, long black hair.
"Hello, Mister Kai. We just spoke on the phone. My name is Benjamin, and I have been hired to assist you in getting familiar with your new residence."
Kai nodded and shook the man’s hand. As mentioned before, he wasn’t socially awkward, so Benjamin’s politeness didn’t overwhelm him.
"I just wanted to confirm," Kai said before pointing toward the barrier behind the man. "We are permitted to go inside, right?"
The man nodded. "We are, sir. I have a visitor’s pass under the reason of assisting you with the shifting and renovation. The pass will remain valid for a month, so if you need my help during that time, don’t hesitate to contact me."
Kai was a little surprised by the extended period of assistance. He had heard how absurdly much real estate employees charged, especially when the property was located in a prime location like this one.
"Shall we proceed, sir?" the man asked, gesturing toward the neat black car parked nearby.
Kai nodded. He had already confirmed everything through the system, so he trusted the man enough to ride in his car.
Once he settled into the backseat, Benjamin took the driver’s seat himself, which made Kai feel a little awkward. It felt somewhat rude to have the man drive him around, but Kai didn’t make a fuss about it and instead asked, "You mentioned renovation?"
Benjamin nodded, his eyes remaining focused on the road as they approached the security checkpoint.
"Indeed, sir. The house is currently under renovation and will probably take two days before it is ready to use."
Kai hummed. If he was going to shift his residence, which he felt he most likely would, he would need those two days to pack everything and have it sent over.
While he didn’t have many belongings back at home, there were still a few things he needed to take care of. He had to settle the advance payment with his landlord, cancel a few subscriptions, and deal with several other matters. So yes, two days seemed more than reasonable.
Soon, the car came to a halt before the massive gates of the Kreacher’s Block.
At first glance, it appeared to be a golden gate rising high into the sky. However, the structure was far more than a simple steel barricade. A massive barrier surrounded the entire entrance, giving the impression that the gates were merely the visible portion of something much larger.
There were two guards stationed outside and another two on the other side.
As they approached, the car was instantly scanned. Benjamin then said, "Sir, you might need to step out for a full-body scan and register yourself on their server."
Kai nodded and took a deep breath, his throat tightening slightly.
This was the moment of truth.
All that evidence and assurance would amount to nothing if the security system couldn’t find him on the list.
Only those who were either owners or explicitly permitted by the owners were allowed to enter.
Once Kai stepped out, he moved forward and stood before the scanner, giving it a clear view of himself.
A small camera was fixed in the middle of the pillar to his left. It moved slightly before focusing on his face and beginning the scan.
Kai waited.
And waited.
Then finally,
Clink.
The massive gates slowly began to part from the middle, and Kai finally let out the breath he had been holding.
Relief washed over him, followed almost immediately by elation. He nearly ran back to the car, a wide crescent-shaped smile spreading across his face.
As he settled back into his seat, Benjamin smiled and said, "Welcome to the Kreacher’s Block."
....
"Woah..."
The lanes of the city were remarkably broad and clean. Unlike the place he was accustomed to, life here felt as though it belonged to an entirely different realm. It was a clear reflection of the difference between ordinary people and those standing at the very top of the social hierarchy.
On either side of the roads were spacious pedestrian pathways, with beautiful trees stretching above them and providing the entire area with a peaceful, almost serene atmosphere.
A little farther ahead, Kai spotted a commercial mall and even a park nearby.
"People here don’t even need to step outside, I guess."
Benjamin nodded with a smile. "Indeed, sir. You can find schools, hospitals, playgrounds, and every basic amenity you could need within this block." After a brief pause, he added, "And when it comes to security, there is no other place like the Kreacher’s Block in all of Fairmont."
Kai nodded in agreement.
As they drove deeper into the block, he could see houses lining the streets, each one different from the next. Some were small, while others were considerably larger, but all of them were undeniably beautiful.
Their structures and designs seemed to have been chosen with creativity and individuality in mind rather than simply to serve as houses. Each property also had a considerable amount of space surrounding the building, whether it was used for a lawn, a garden, or something else entirely.
"Here we are, sir," Benjamin suddenly said as the car came to a stop before a single-storey house.
Kai slowly pushed open the door and stepped out, his eyes settling on the house before him.
A slow smile curved across his lips.
His home.
No.
Their home.
