Browsing through the supplies, a thought made Kai smile.
Just a day ago, if he had entered this very place, his cart would have been filled with instant noodles and food that doesn’t take more than one minute to be prepared.
And now, when he looked down, the first thing he saw was a five kilogram bag of rice.
"Should...we take this?" A hesitant voice came from the left and Kai found Jean holding a can of tomato in her hand.
Kai instantly nodded, "Yes, please. And take any other thing you feel is necessary. I am not very used to buying supplies so you are in charge here."
Jean looked complicated. "I myself am not very used to it."
Kai shrugged. "Then we explore things at our pace and learn together."
Jean faintly smiled and nodded. "Sounds good."
They walked through the aisle after the aisle, filling the cart with daily supplies like eggs, green vegetables, bread, milk products, and some snacks.
When they came to the meat counter, Jean paused and frowned.
"Their price is quite high."
Kai hummed. "They are fresh rather than frozen. Well we should take some chicken...and...uhm, you like shrimps, right?"
Jean was taken aback. "How do you know?"
"I remember." Kai casually said. "I used to eat not so far away from your group. I remembered your friends used to share shrimp bread with you a lot back then."
Jean couldn’t help but feel a bit embarrassed. "I never asked them...and why did you eavsdrop on us?"
Kai chuckled. "Your friends were never particularly quiet. Anyway, let’s take this." He took two packets of shrimps and placed them in a bag before dropping it in the cart.
Jean drew closer to him and asked in a quieter voice. "Is it really fine for us to buy so many things? I mean...they are quite highly priced."
Kai exhaled a sigh. Truthfully, his own wallet didn’t allow him to purchase so many things at once. However, now his account was loaded and that money was legit. That’s why, "Don’t worry. I have got it covered."
Jean was still worried but she felt continuing the topic might hurt his pride. So she just nodded.
Soon, Kai suggested. "If you aren’t tired, let’s browse the child’s section a littl-"
He paused as he saw someone yawning but it wasn’t Jean
The little life seemed tired by moving around so much. She had her small fists raised, and her little mouth opened in a long yawn.
The two of them watched in silence, their eyes filled with adoration before Kai made the decision. "Let’s head back. We will come back sometime later."
Jean agreed and soon they headed towards the counter.
The technology allowed their cart to be scanned at once rather than going through one by one.
And when Kai looked at the total...
$564.4
Kai paused. He has never shopped this much before.
He briefly checked his wallet...there was about three hundred dollars there. So if the amount in his bank somehow failed him here, things would become messy.
His only option would be Mark...who hopefully should pick his phone.
"How will you pay?" The bored cashier asked, eager to see them off.
Kai just opened the paying app and tapped his phone sensor against the terminal.
He took a deep breath and typed the amount in his phone before clicking on "pay".
A few dots later,
*Paid Successfully*
He exhaled a deep breath. Never knew he would feel so relieved to see the green shade.
"Since you have shopped for more than five hundred, you can use our delivery service free of cost. Just share your address, and we would deliver it." The shopkeeper said in his monotonous voice.
Kai nodded and was about to share the address when suddenly he felt a tug at his sleeve.
He glanced back and found Jean shaking her head nervously as she muttered, "Can...we not take the things with us? Please?"
Her voice trembled faintly. She clearly was nervous about something...and soon, Kai realized what.
He turned to the cashier and said, "We will take the items with us. Thank you."
The cashier shrugged before calling out, "Next."
He soon took the whole grocery in one hand and the rice bag in the other.
Jean apologized. "I am sorry...because of me you are..."
"Nah, it’s fine." He assured her. "I have been looking to lift some weight anyway."
Just when they stepped out of the store, some words flashed before his eyes, nearly making him stumble.
[Task: Have a successful shopping trip with your family.]
[Reward: All-you-can-buy Card.]

"...." Uh...so, the system doesn’t want him glancing at his wallet the next time he comes to buy bread.
Okay.
