The scene fell into an eerie silence.

The armed police officers who had arrived as reinforcements widened their eyes, their palms slick with sweat.

Some of them recognized Kenji Sakata; although they knew this Police Inspector Sakata had a bad reputation, they never expected that a living human being could turn into such a monster in just a few minutes.Full novel: Fate: The World Thinks I’m an Alien God — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Is that… Police Inspector Sakata?” a policeman holding a submachine gun trembled.

Watching the one-horned monster, clad in ripped police uniform and covered in blue-black muscle, he felt his worldview collapse.

“He’s turned into a demon! How is this possible!”

“Should we fire? Sir! Do we open fire?”

Chaotic orders came through the communicators from the rear command center.

Clearly, the high-ranking officials sitting in their offices were also terrified by the footage transmitted back by the drones.

“All units, stand by! Do not open fire until the target initiates an attack!”

A police sergeant leading the team shouted at the top of his lungs, though he himself could barely stand steady.

Ibaraki Doji crossed her arms, observing the demonized Kenji Sakata with great interest.

“Hey, you newborn piece of trash. Since you’ve already abandoned your human identity, let me see what you are truly capable of.”

Ibaraki Doji’s smile was sweet, her lovely oval face revealing overflowing joy.

But to those around her, that smile was more terrifying than hell itself.

The demon Kenji Sakata suddenly raised his head; the finger-pointing of others filled this newborn demon’s heart with violence and rage.

But when he saw Ibaraki Doji’s sweet smile, a deep chill and fear spread uncontrollably from his heart to his limbs like a rising tide.

Even though his mind was filled with desires for bloodshed and violence, the suppression from the depths of his soul made him dare not show any disrespect to Ibaraki Doji.

“Ibaraki… My Lord…” the demon Kenji Sakata hurriedly lowered his head humbly.

His voice after demonization had become hoarse and dry, like two rusted iron plates rubbing together.

“Don’t face me; I have no interest in the weak.” Ibaraki Doji pointed at the group of armed police.

“Those guys wanted to kill you just now. Go on, unleash your anger. If you survive, I might consider letting you be a small gatekeeper demon.”

These words were the final straw.

The demon Kenji Sakata’s blood-red eyes suddenly turned toward the armed police.

In that instant, his killing intent almost solidified into something tangible.

He remembered the suspicion and blame from those people when he had asked for help earlier, and he remembered his long-standing desire for power.

Now, he had the power, and he would kill everyone who stood in his way!

“Roar—!”

The demon Kenji Sakata let out an inhuman roar and pushed off with his legs.

The rubble on the ground was instantly crushed beneath his feet; he shot toward the police defensive line like a blue-black cannonball.

“He’s charging! Fire! Open fire now!”

The police sergeant leading the team finally gave the order.

“Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat—!”

Several submachine guns and automatic rifles spat fire simultaneously, and a dense rain of bullets instantly engulfed the demon Kenji Sakata.

If he were an ordinary person, he would have been riddled with holes under this barrage.

But the demon Kenji Sakata’s physical strength had already exceeded human limits.

The bullets struck his blue-black skin, making dull “thudding” sounds; although they buried into his flesh, they failed to penetrate through.

Those muscles acted like powerful springs, gripping the bullets tightly.

But he did not fall.

The intense pain only fueled his ferocity.

“Roar—!”

Braving the hail of bullets, he grabbed an abandoned car on the side of the road with both hands and actually hoisted it over his head.

“Monster! Die!” a policeman screamed in terror, emptying an entire magazine of bullets.

The demon Kenji Sakata roared and violently smashed the car, which weighed over a ton, at them.

“Boom!”

The car slammed into the riot shield array with a loud crash.

Several policemen couldn’t dodge in time and were sent flying, instantly creating a huge gap in the defensive line.

The demon Kenji Sakata charged through the gap.

His massive hand grabbed a policeman’s head and gave it a light twist.

“Snap!”

The policeman didn’t even have time to scream before his neck snapped at an eerie angle.

The slaughter had begun.

Kyoko Tachibana hid behind a utility pole in the distance, her camera faithfully recording the scene.

Her stomach churned violently.

This wasn’t a movie; this was real slaughter.

Those well-trained police officers were as fragile as paper dolls before the demon.

“Help! Headquarters! Requesting support! We need heavy weapons!”

“Ah! My leg!”

The scene was in chaos, with gunfire, explosions, and screams intertwined.

The demon Kenji Sakata rampaged through the crowd.

He felt an unprecedented exhilaration.

The pleasure of tearing flesh apart and holding life and death in his hands made him sink completely into depravity.

At this moment, he even felt that becoming a demon was the most correct and fortunate thing in his life.

But after all, he was just a low-level demon that had just transformed.

After the initial chaos, the police began to retreat in an organized manner and called in snipers.

“Bang!”

A dull gunshot broke the chaotic situation; a large-caliber sniper rifle bullet accurately struck the demon Kenji Sakata’s knee.

“Aargh—!”

Sakata’s one leg was blown halfway off, the stark white bone fragments exposed, causing him to fall heavily to his knees.

Immediately after, there were more sniper shots.

His shoulder and chest were hit in succession.

The destructive power of large-caliber bullets was incomparable to submachine guns; huge blood flowers exploded on the demon Kenji Sakata’s body, and blue-black blood splattered everywhere.

“Stop shooting! Stop! I’m your superior officer! I’m Kenji Sakata!”

The power of these “pacifiers” for carbon-based lifeforms was no joke; after the Metropolitan Police Department brought out their best snipers, even this lowest-level demon, Kenji Sakata, could no longer act so arrogantly.

Realizing that his newly transformed demon body was not yet invulnerable to blades and guns, Sakata’s agile mind began to race again.

His shouting actually worked; the commanders at the Metropolitan Police Department rear command center hesitated for a moment about whether to issue the kill order.

A living demon sample would certainly be more useful than a dead Sakata.

The demon Kenji Sakata did not pin all his hopes on the mercy of his former colleagues; his greatest reliance was still that legendary demon chief of Mount Ooe in the sky.

Sensing the threat of death, the cowardly nature within Sakata resurfaced.

He couldn’t be bothered to continue his rampage and desperately turned his head to beg for help from Ibaraki Doji in the sky.

“I am already a demon of Mount Ooe! I am your subordinate! Please, help me!” He shouted while trying to crawl toward Ibaraki Doji.

However, Ibaraki Doji just looked at him coldly.

That gaze was like looking at a pile of trash.

“A demon of Mount Ooe?” Ibaraki Doji scoffed; her voice was not loud, but it drowned out all the noise at the scene.

“Do you, a coward who fears death and only knows how to fawn over mortals, deserve to call yourself one of my Mount Ooe demon kin?”

She slowly extended a finger, a tiny black spark dancing on her fingertip.

“I said before, this was just a trial. Only by surviving would you have the qualifications. But now it seems that not only have you failed to survive, you haven’t even learned the dignity of a demon.”

The demon Kenji Sakata froze.

Looking at Ibaraki Doji’s cold face, the last shred of hope in his heart was extinguished.

“No… you can’t do this…”

The demon Kenji Sakata wanted to say more, but was suddenly interrupted.

“Rat-tat-tat-tat-tat—!”

It turned out that the officials of the Metropolitan Police Department noticed the demon Kenji Sakata begging Ibaraki Doji for help, and the command center, realizing the situation was not under human control, immediately ordered the personnel on-site to kill the demon Kenji Sakata.

They weren’t taking any chances; a dead Sakata was better than a demon on the loose.

That Ibaraki Doji was clearly a high-level demon god; if she were to intervene and help the demon Kenji Sakata, the Japanese authorities might really end up with nothing.

Seeing the demon Kenji Sakata knocked to the ground by the sniper fire, the armed police immediately surrounded him.

A dozen automatic rifles fired wildly at Sakata’s head and chest.

This time, without the protection of hellfire or the favor of Ibaraki Doji, the demon Kenji Sakata’s body twitched incessantly under the dense rain of bullets.

Half of his head was sheared off by bullets, and his chest was riddled into a huge, bloody hole.

A few seconds later, this Police Inspector Sakata, who once threw his weight around in the police force, now the demon Kenji Sakata, had completely turned into a pile of mush, lying motionless in a pool of blood.

“Tch, boring.”

Ibaraki Doji didn’t even glance at the corpse on the ground.

She looked up and scanned the armed police who were staring at her nervously.

“It feels very fulfilling to slay a demon, doesn’t it? Mortals.”

She seemed completely unmoved by her kin being killed by humans, a meaningful smile on her face, sharp canines protruding from her lips.

“Today’s fun ends here. As expected, humans and demons killing each other is the only way it’s fun.”

“I look forward to seeing if you can bring me some more interesting surprises next time we meet.”

After speaking, Ibaraki Doji transformed into a ball of golden flame and shot into the sky.

Under everyone’s gaze, the ball of flame quickly shrank in mid-air and finally disappeared into the clouds.

All that remained at the scene were devastated ruins, corpses all over the ground, and that pool of foul-smelling, blue-black blood.

The armed police of the Metropolitan Police Department looked at each other; what they had seen and heard today had greatly distorted their worldview.

As mortals facing such a fierce and transcendent demon god, just surviving was something to thank Buddha for.

Kyoko Tachibana lowered her camera, her body going limp, and she slid down to sit on the ground, leaning against the utility pole.

She gasped for air, her sweat blurring her glasses lenses.

“This world… has really changed. It feels so strange…”

This was the heartfelt lament of everyone present.
