Wasn’t she supposed to have starved to death?

A burning pain shot straight up her nerves and exploded in her skull.

Lin Yinyin’s vision swam with stars she nearly died again.

“Still playing dead?”

A sharp, shrill female voice shouted impatiently. “Want me to slap you a couple more times so you’ll wake up properly?”

Dazed, Lin Yinyin looked toward the nagging woman.

A middle-aged woman stood by the kang bed, a black mole at the corner of her mouth, dressed in a dark red floral jacket, hands on her hips, glaring at her viciously.

“What are you staring at? Get up right now and wash up! The Wang family will be here soon to pick you up!”

This was… the original owner’s stepmother Lin Xiulan.

Beside her stood someone watching the show her stepbrother… Lin Baogui.

A flood of unfamiliar memories surged in, and Lin Yinyin clutched her head, not knowing whether to laugh or cry.

A father who died young.

A mother who died of illness.

A cold-blooded stepfather.

And now this stepmother was about to sell her off!

She had transmigrated into the body of a pitiful orphan with both parents dead.

At least she was still alive that alone was something.

Just as she was feeling a trace of relief, a wave of malice rushed toward her.

Seeing no reaction from her, Lin Xiulan reached out and grabbed for Lin Yinyin’s hair.

Lin Yinyin’s gaze hardened. She hadn’t even settled the slap from earlier, and this woman still dared to lay hands on her did she really think she was a pushover?

“Go screw your ancestors!” Lin Yinyin cursed, twisting her waist and neatly dodging sideways.

At the same time, she precisely caught the incoming wrist, clamping down hard on the wrist bone.

The moment she moved, a sharp pain drilled through her arm, but she ignored it and twisted with all her strength.

“Ow! Ow! It hurts!”

“My hand! It’s going to break!”

Lin Xiulan screamed in agony, her body twisted sideways. She frantically tried to pry Lin Yinyin’s fingers off with her other hand, but couldn’t reach.

Seeing this, Lin Baogui cursed, “You little bitch, you’ve got a death wish!” and kicked at Lin Yinyin.

Lin Yinyin immediately let go of Lin Xiulan, bent down to dodge the kick, and at the same time lashed out with her foot, kicking hard into the back of Lin Baogui’s knee.

“Thud!”

Lin Baogui crashed to his knees, grimacing in pain.

Lin Xiulan was shocked and furious. “You you dare hit us?!”

Lin Yinyin rolled her eyes. “What nonsense. If I don’t hit you, should I just let you tie me up and sell me to the Wang family to that thirty-year-old drooling idiot?”

This stepmother had sold the original owner to a fool in the neighboring village just to scrape together fifty yuan for Lin Baogui’s bride price.

The original owner fought desperately. Lin Xiulan shoved her into the edge of the kang bed, and she lost her breath… and died.

Instead of feeling guilty, Lin Xiulan became even more self-righteous.

“Hmph! Don’t be ungrateful!

You were born a cursed lone star a walking disaster! You killed your own father and sickened your own mother to death! If I hadn’t found someone like Wang Dagen, whose fate is strong enough to suppress your curse, you’d have died long ago!”

“If Wang the idiot is so great, why don’t you marry him?” Lin Yinyin shot back.

Lin Xiulan’s face instantly turned ashen.

Meanwhile, memories churned violently in Lin Yinyin’s mind.

When the original owner was born, her grandmother suddenly fell ill and died. At one year old, when she learned to walk, her grandfather passed away. At eight, her father died.

At fourteen, her mother died of illness.

One misfortune after another became the so-called “proof” of her cursed fate.

No one cared about her grief only about slapping the label of “jinx” onto her.

Worst of all, she believed it.

She shrank from a lively little girl into a pitiful child hiding in the corner.

Thinking of this, the coldness in Lin Yinyin’s eyes deepened.

She stepped toward Lin Xiulan.

The ferocity in her gaze made Lin Xiulan’s voice tremble.

“Y-you… what are you doing?! Don’t come any closer! I’m your elder you dare touch me, just try!”

“Elder?”

Lin Yinyin sneered. “You’re just a stepmother don’t flatter yourself.”

After her biological father died, her mother remarried Lin Dayong.

After her mother died, Lin Dayong quickly married Lin Xiulan.

From then on, her life became a living hell.

Didn’t light the stove early enough she’d be scolded.

Fed the pigs too slowly she’d be beaten.

Even picking up an extra chopstick of pickled vegetables at meals earned her a smack on the wrist.

Worse still, Lin Xiulan somehow learned some twisted folk sorcery. She secretly embedded four sewing needles into the inside of her wrist, the back of her forearm, and acupuncture points called Daling and Sidou claiming it would “seal her curse.”

Four needles hidden in her flesh, causing piercing pain with every movement.

And she still had to wash clothes, cook, and do farm work!

Lin Yinyin lifted her arm, rage threatening to spill from her eyes.

Even such a simple motion was unbearable for someone who had survived 25 years in the apocalypse. Let alone an eighteen-year-old girl.

She shook her head. She couldn’t dwell on it.

The memories were too cruel.

What mattered now was collecting every debt this family owed with interest.

Her footsteps were heavy as she advanced on Lin Xiulan.

Terrified, Lin Xiulan retreated again and again. “D-don’t come closer!”

Lin Yinyin said nothing more she simply lifted her foot and kicked Lin Xiulan squarely in the stomach.

But at that moment, Lin Baogui had already scrambled to his feet. He grabbed a door-bracing wooden pole from the corner and swung it with a roar.

“I’ll beat you to death, you little bitch!”

Lin Yinyin’s eyes sharpened. She sidestepped easily.

She might be a “useless” spatial ability user with no offensive powers but dealing with a farmhand was child’s play!

Before Lin Baogui could steady himself, she kicked the back of his knee again.

“Thud!”

He collapsed to his knees once more, the wooden pole flying from his grip.

Lin Yinyin seized the pole and lashed it down across his back.

“Smack!”

The pole cut through the air and struck flesh. Lin Baogui howled in pain.

He opened his mouth to speak but the second and third blows were already on their way.

“Smack!”

“Smack!”

The pole struck his wrists and arms exactly where the needles had been driven into her!

“Ahhh!”

“AHHH!”

Each blow sent his screams climbing higher.

“Stop stop hitting me!”

Lin Yinyin didn’t slow down at all.

“Stop! Stop it!”

Seeing her son being beaten, Lin Xiulan rushed forward, trying to sneak up on Lin Yinyin from behind.

But Lin Yinyin was ready.

She spun around and struck Lin Xiulan’s arm with pinpoint accuracy.

“Crack!”

“Ah! My arm! My arm it’s broken!”

“Thump!” Lin Yinyin followed up with a brutal kick to her waist.

In the next second, she darted to the door and slammed it shut locking them in like dogs behind closed doors.

What followed was nothing short of a one-sided massacre.
