“How do you know that name!” Diana shouted, her grip tightening as she pinned Alex to the ground.
“Oh…
You’re a patient one,” Alex joked.
Diana responded by punching the marble floor right next to his head.
The stone cracked, fragments scattering across the floor.
Alex sighed.
“Okay…
Relax.
She’s outside…
in my car.
I saved her…
Just so you know.”
Diana released him instantly and backed away, her eyes still burning with suspicion.
“You’re serious?
If you’re here to lie, I will split you in half!”
“Sheesh…
You really are a crazy one…” Alex said, getting up and fixing his suit.
“Follow me.
Let’s go see her.”
He turned to leave.
Diana fixed her outfit and walked outside with him.
The receptionists looked at her with concern.
“Miss Diana, is everything all right?”
“Yes…
I just couldn’t contain my happiness with Mr.
Black’s offer that I slammed the table!” Diana said smoothly.
“I’ll be back in fifteen, okay?
Don’t let anyone inside my office.”
The receptionists nodded as Alex continued outside the building where his car was waiting in a nearby alleyway.
As soon as he and Diana appeared, the door opened and Cassie ran out quickly.
“AUNT DIANA!” she rushed toward her.
Diana saw her and immediately ran forward.
“CASSIE!”
The two hugged instantly.
“Oh my god!
Where have you been!
Your mother and I looked for you everywhere!” Diana said, holding Cassie tightly.
“I was kidnapped…
They were too strong.
I couldn’t even fight back…” said Cassie.
“Oh, it doesn’t matter at all now.
The important thing is that you’re safe…
Thank god…” Diana stood up, pulling out her phone.
“I’m going to call Helena too!”
She stopped, turning to look at Alex.
“Did he—?”
“Yeah…” Cassie nodded.
“Alex saved my life!
He killed everyone who tried to take me!
Oh!
And I didn’t tell him about you!
I swear!
He figured it out on his own!”
Diana’s expression softened.
“Oh, that doesn’t matter, Cassie.
It matters that you’re safe.”
She turned to Alex, placed her hand on his shoulder, and nodded firmly.
“Thank you.”
“No problem,” said Alex.
Diana stepped aside and began dialing.
…..
“The Mayor!
Unbelievable!
I’m going to rip him apart!” Diana said, pacing in her office.
Helena was outside reuniting with Cassie while Alex and Diana met privately.
“What would he want with Cassie anyway?”
“…I don’t think I should tell you that…” said Alex.
“What!
WHY?” Her voice rose with barely contained fury.
“WHAT THE FUCK DID HE WANT!”
“If I tell you…
I need you to stay calm and not do anything stupid.
I’ll provide you the evidence so you can take him down legally,” said Alex.
He paused, then delivered the words flatly.
“He wanted to breed Cassie and create his own Amazonian army.”
“I’M GOING TO CUT HIS BALLS OFF!
WHAT?
HOW DARE HE!
ARGH!” Diana shouted, surging to her feet.
Alex stood, raising his hands in a calming gesture.
“Okay, you need to relax…
Doing that without evidence will only cause problems for you.”
“I DON’T CARE!
I’m going to talk to Flash too—what the hell is he doing not knowing there’s a fucking slave auction under his own city!” said Diana.
“Well…
We’ll get to that.
Just relax, okay?
I understand your anger, but if you do anything stupid right now, he’ll only get away with it.
We don’t want that, do we?” said Alex.
Diana narrowed her eyes, then exhaled slowly.
“No…
We don’t.”
Alex pulled a few files from his inner pocket and placed them on the table, along with an envelope.
He opened it, dropping out a CD and a flash drive.
“Each of these files contain pictures, videos, audio recordings, and transcripts of all that transpired during the most recent auction.
This includes the sale of Cassie, Wolfe’s statement on what he’d do with her, and much more.
These are damning evidence, and I know as a member of the Justice League…
you can bring justice to the victims and take Wolfe down.
That’s why I’m handing it to you.”
Diana read through some of the files, then turned to Alex.
“I appreciate all of this.
This must have been difficult to collect.
I will absolutely use it…
But I still have to know…
What is it to you?
What do you have against Wolfe?
Did you save Cassie just to get to me?
And how did you figure out my identity?” She leaned forward, her gaze sharp and probing.
“I think you’ve already read my file.
I’m a weapons manufacturer.
I provide the government—especially police and inner defense organizations—with weapons.
I already have secured contracts with multiple military organizations, official government stamps, and all the required files.
My issue is Wolfe.
I did some research, and that man…
I simply refuse to provide weaponry to someone like him, because it won’t be used to stop supervillains like it’s intended to.
So I looked hard into him…
And that’s what I found.”
He met her gaze evenly.
“To be perfectly honest with you…
I am essentially using you and your Justice League influence to get rid of a problem in Central City.
I had planned to leak these myself…
until I found Cassie.
I saved her by coincidence…
I had no plans of meeting with you.
But once I found out she was an Amazonian…
I knew I could garner your attention.” He paused.
“Oh, and for your identity?
Miss Diana, no disrespect, but you’ve been sighted patrolling and flying around this area multiple times.
It wasn’t hard to connect your face with the face of Diana Prince, a museum curator…
who suddenly emerged the same time Wonder Woman did.”
Diana studied him for a long moment.
“I suppose you really did your research, huh?” She leaned back.
“Fine…
I can’t seem to sense any ill intent from you.
However…
I will do one last test.
Will you allow me to wrap you with the Lasso of Truth…
and have you answer a question for me?”
“Usually I’d refuse…
I don’t see a reason why I’d be questioned when I’m the one that saved the day.
However…
I understand your reasons.
So go ahead.
But one question only,” said Alex.
Diana pulled out her lasso and handed it to him.
He took it.
“Can I have a test question?” said Diana.
“Go ahead.”
“What is your name?” she asked.
The lasso glowed as Alex spoke.
“My name is Alex.
Alex Black.”
Diana nodded in acknowledgment, then began to think on what to ask.
Meanwhile, Alex’s mind was racing.
‘I didn’t reveal my full name…
So it doesn’t seem able to tell the truth from me?
Is that your work, Medea?’
‘Yes.
I cast a simple mental protection spell on you.
It won’t work with full lies, but if you speak half-truths, the lasso won’t figure it out,’ Medea replied.
‘Are you aware of what this lasso is?’ asked Alex.
‘Yes.
From here I can already tell it’s made through the powers of the goddess Hestia.
However, I am the apprentice of Hecate.
If I can’t figure out a way against it…
I will never be a real mage.’
‘Good.
Don’t do it now, though.
I already know what she’ll ask.
There will be no problem answering this one truthfully.’
Diana finally raised her head.
“Alex Black…
Are you the enemy of the Justice League or do you plan to be an enemy of the Justice League?”
Alex smiled.
“No…
I am not.
Not as long as they are not my enemies.”
He removed the lasso from his hand.
“I expected a harder question after all the time you took.” He stood.
“Anyways…
I’ll head out now.
I’ve handed you the files, the evidence, and my contact.
Make sure you give him hell.”
“I will,” Diana replied.
Alex opened the door to leave.
Instantly, Cassie came rushing toward him and hugged him tightly.
“Thank you…!” she said, looking up at him.
“For saving me…
I will never forget it!”
“You’re welcome, darling.
Pay it back by becoming as great a hero as your auntie…
Okay?” said Alex.
Helena on the side also looked at him.
“Thank you…
For saving my daughter.”
Alex nodded.
“No need…
Just take care of her from now on.
The world is a dangerous place.”
He turned and walked out of the museum.
