They get out of bed and put on their clothes. They go to the kitchen, where Melina is waiting for them with breakfast. She greets them with a hug and a smile, and asks them about their plans for the day. They tell her about the dungeon excursion, and she wishes them good luck. She also reminds them to be careful, and to call her if they need anything.
They thank her, and finish their breakfast. They then leave the house and head to the school. They go to the school office, where it's very crowded with a sea of students who are forming groups and talking with office faculty about finalizing groups. The forms they have to fill out have spaces for everyone's name, the teacher and adventurer assigned to them, and what supplies the group would be supplied with by the school. The school provides a basic kit to all students, and the groups can request any extra supplies they need within reason. The school would take the cost of extra supplies out of the group's share of the loot gained in the dungeon.
Felix and Nya look for Grog and Luna first. Then find Silva with the other professional adventurers. Felix approaches her, "Hey, Silva. How are you?" She turns around and sees him. She smiles, "Hey, Felix. I'm good. You?" Silva asks with her voice warm and cheerful
"I'm good too. So, I have a question for you. Are you interested in joining our group for the dungeon excursion? We need a professional adventurer, and we thought of you." He asks her.
"Really? You want me to join you? I'm flattered, but why me?" Silva asks with her voice being curious and flattered. "Well, you have experience, and you're strong. Plus, we had fun on our last quest together. We think you'd be a good fit." Filex tells her.
She thinks about it, "Hmm, I don't know." She then teasingly sways while watching his reactions before going, "Oh, alright, I suppose I'll go with you."
Then with that they have everyone they need except one more student for a minimum of four students. Felix scans the crowd again and sees another familiar face. It's Arthur, the human paladin. Felix calls him over, and he comes. He smiles and says, "Hello, Felix. What's up?"
Felix tells him, "Hi, Arthur. We're forming a group for the dungeon excursion, and we need one more member. Are you interested?" Arthur replies, "Really? You want me in your group? I'm honored. Yes, I'd love to join you."
They fill out the rest of the form with the names of everyone in the group and hand it in. They're then told the group can head to the dungeon now. They leave the school and go to the edge of the city where there's a carriage waiting for them. It's a large and sturdy vehicle that can carry six people and their gear. They get on board, and the driver greets them.
"Hello, folks. I'm Henry, your driver. As you might know already, we're going to the Whispering Caverns. It's about an hour's ride from here, so sit back and enjoy the scenery." He says with his voice cheerful and professional.
They thank him, and settle in their seats. They chat and joke along the way, feeling excited and nervous. They pass by some farms, forests, and hills, and soon they arrive at their destination. They see a large hole in the ground, surrounded by a fence and a sign that says ‘Whispering Caverns: Enter at your own risk’. They get off the carriage, and get their gear. They have backpacks with food, water, torches, ropes, maps, and other essentials. They also have their weapons and armor.
Henry says, "Alright, folks. This is where I leave you. I'll be back here in six hours, or when you call me with this." He hands Felix a whistle, and says, "Blow this if you need an emergency pickup, but try not to, okay? It's very expensive." He says, his voice serious and stern.
Felix nods, "We understand. Thank you, Henry." He says with his voice respectful and grateful. Henry nods back, and drives away. They look at each other, and take a deep breath. "Well, this is it. Are we ready?" She asks the group.
They all say yes, and walk towards the entrance. They show their passes to the guard, who lets them in. They enter the dungeon, and feel a chill in the air. They see a dark and narrow tunnel with stalactites and stalagmites. They light their torches, and start their adventure.
The group walks cautiously through the tunnel and their torches cast flickering shadows on the walls. They keep their eyes and ears open for any signs of danger or opportunity.
They soon reach a fork in the path, with two options: left or right. Felix consults his map, and sees that both lead to different areas of the dungeon. He says, "According to this, the left path goes to a more dangerous section while the right path is safer. Though the left path also has more loot." He says, his voice thoughtful and analytical.
Grog says, "I'm up for some challenge. Let's go left." He says, his voice eager and brave. Luna disagrees, "I don't know... Maybe we should play it safe for now. We don't want to overextend ourselves."
Silva says, "I agree with Luna. We should scout the area first, and see what we're dealing with. We can always come back later if we feel confident enough." Arthur adds, "I think we should vote on it. What do you say, Felix?" He asks, his voice fair and respectful.
Felix thinks for a moment, "I'm inclined to agree with Grog, but It looks like me and Grog would be outvoted if it came to a vote at this rate."
"I'm fine either way, but I suggest we go right. It's my first time here too, and I'd rather not bite off more than we can chew." Nya says with her voice reasonable and supportive. Felix nods, "Alright, right it is. Let's go."
They take the right path, and follow it for a while. They come across a large chamber, with goblins and wolves milling about and doing their own thing. They spot the group, and start to charge. There's about ten goblins and twelve wolves. "Ready, everyone? Let's do this." Felix says with his voice calm and determined.
He casts a fireball at the group of monsters, creating a loud explosion that staggers them. Nya casts her targeted light spell that blinds them temporarily, giving the group an advantage. Grog summons his spirit claws and charges to the front. Luna stays behind, and casts support spells on her allies, enhancing their speed, strength, and defense. Silva uses her qi to enhance her physical abilities, and fights on the front with Grog as she picks off distracted or isolated enemies. Arthur uses his divine power to create a shield of light around himself and his allies, protecting them from harm. Then goes to the front line as well. Grog and Silva have some growing pains coordinating because they try to attack the same enemy awkwardly or bump into each other, and Felix has to learn how to not target what Grog and Silva are already targeting. Though they start to learn how to work together better.
The fight is intense and brutal, but the group works well together. They coordinate their attacks, cover each other's backs, and exploit the monsters' weaknesses. The goblins fall first, their low health and morale making them easy targets. The wolves are tougher, but not by much. They're eventually overwhelmed by the group's combined firepower and skill.
The group cheers as they defeat the last monster, and loot their bodies. They find some coins, gems, potions, and a strange key. Felix pockets the key, hoping it will be useful later. They also find a hidden chest behind a rock, with more gold and a scroll inside. Luna identifies the scroll as a spell of detect magic, which she happily takes. They rest for a bit, healing their wounds and replenishing their resources. Then they continue their exploration.
They find a more water logged chamber. With a subterranean lake with a small island in the middle. They see a chest on the island, but also notice some ripples in the water. They decide to investigate further, and Silva volunteers to go first. She uses a qi technique to run on the surface of the water. She reaches the island, and opens the chest. She finds a magical ring inside, which she pockets for later identification. She smiles and waves at the others, who cheer for her.
Suddenly, a large tentacle emerges from the water, and wraps around her leg. She screams, and tries to break free, but the tentacle is too strong. Another tentacle appears, and tries to grab her arm. She dodges it, but loses her balance and falls into the water. The others gasp, and rush to help her. Felix uses his telekinesis to lift her out of the water, while Grog does his gale kick to attack one of the tentacles at range. The tentacles recoil, and a huge creature emerges from the depths. It's a giant squid. It roars, and attacks the group with its tentacles and teeth.
The group fights back, using their ranged attacks and spells. Luna casts a water breathing spell on Silva, who swims back to the shore and joins the fight. Nya casts a confusion spell on the giant squid, making it attack itself. Arthur uses his sword to cut off some of its tentacles, while Grog punches it in the eye. Felix uses his lightning bolt to shock it, causing it to spasm and convulse. The giant squid is tough, but not invincible. After a long and hard battle, they manage to kill it. They loot its corpse, getting some of it's meat and ink.
They catch their breath, and congratulate each other. They're proud of their teamwork and courage. They also notice a new passage behind where the giant squid was hiding. They decide to check it out, and find the passage goes underwater. They use their water breathing spells, and swim through. Though they enter a new room with swarming fish monsters in it.
Felix looks at the fish monsters with a frown, "Those look nasty. I don't want to get close to them." He says with his voice disgusted and cautious as the water breathing spell allows him to talk underwater. Nya adds, "Me neither. They have sharp teeth and fins. They could rip us to shreds."
Grog says, "Then what do we do? We can't just ignore them. They might follow us." Luna suggests, "Maybe we can try to scare them away with fire or light?"
Silva replies, "I don't think that would work. They look too aggressive and hungry." Arthur suggests, "Perhaps we could try to lure them out one by one, and ambush them?"
Felix shakes his head, "No, that would take too long, and we might attract more attention. I have a better idea." He concentrates a significant portion of his mana in a way that's intentionally unstable and then pushes it out to drift towards the center of the room as it destabilizes and grows chaotically more dangerous. He then quickly swims back to the group, and says, "Everyone, make sure you're out of the blast radius." He tells the group with his voice urgent and commanding.
They comply, and watch as the unstable mana charge detonates like a bomb. A huge explosion ripples through the water, creating a powerful shockwave that knocks out or kills most of the fish monsters. Some of them survive, but they're disoriented and wounded. The group seizes the opportunity, and attacks them. They finish them off quickly and efficiently, and loot their bodies for their means, bones, and scales, as well as finding a couple pearls.
They swim back to the previous chamber, and get out of the water. They dismiss their water breathing spells, and dry themselves. They look at each other with relief and admiration. They praise Felix for his quick thinking and powerful magic. Felix responds that he was glad it worked so well, and liked how effective the underwater shockwaves were.
They find another chamber full of venomous and large snakes. Some of them hiss and strike at them, while others slither away. The group carefully engages the snakes while trying to avoid their bites. Luna uses her alchemy to make an antidote for the venom, and Nya uses her magic to neutralize it. They also use fire to scare away the snakes, and kill them when they can. Grog and Arthur had been bitten, but the antidotes Luna made come in handy and cure them. They get skins and fangs from the snakes, and move on.
They come across a wooden door with some odd looking runes carved on it. They try to open it, but it's locked. Felix remembers the key he found earlier, and tries it. It fits as the door opens. They enter the boss room. The room is shaped like a round arena with a giant in the center. The giant is humanoid and at least five times the size of Grog. It wears primitive armor but has a massive club. It sees them, and roars. It charges at them, swinging its club and trying to crush them.
Grog and Silva charge at it while Arthur guards Luna and Nya, and Felix goes around to flank the Giant from behind. Grog and Silva are able to dodge the giant's attacks and cut its legs. Arthur stays in front of Luna and Nya while shooting beams of holy energy at it. Luna casts spells to debuff the giant and buff her allies, while Nya casts offensive spells from afar. Felix uses his telekinesis to lift a rock and hurl it at the giant's head, distracting it and giving Grog an opening to strike its knee. The giant falls to one knee, and Silva takes the opportunity to slice the back of its neck. The giant roars in pain, and stands up again, swinging its club wildly. It hits Grog in the chest, sending him flying across the room. He hits the wall hard, and coughs up blood.
Luna runs over to him and uses her best healing potion to stabilize him. Felix uses his telekinesis to pull Grog back to the group and shouts, "We need to finish this, now!"
Silva keeps striking its legs while Nya uses binding magic to keep it from walking. Felix charges a penetrating beam to hit it through the eye as a lethal strike. The giant notices what Felix is doing and tries to bring his club down on Felix, but Arthur throws his sword at the giant's arm during the upswing and makes it drop its club. Felix finishes charging his beam before the Giant can recover, and fires it. The beam pierces the giant's eye and goes through to its brain. It falls to the ground and stops moving. The group cheers, and rushes to Grog. Luna checks him with diagnostic magic and reassures everyone he’s doing better, but still badly hurt. She says she needs more time to focus and heal him properly, and that they should get him out of the dungeon as soon as possible.
They agree, and look around the room for any loot. They find a chest near the giant's body, and open it. Inside, they find a lot of gold coins and gems. They check to make sure there's nothing else while Luna is given the time to fully heal Grog. He then gets back up and looks much better. They thank Luna, and congratulate each other. After Luna urges not pressing their luck further after they've defeated the boss, they decide to leave the dungeon. So they head back to the exit the way they came. Along the way they try to remember where any monsters were that aren't dead already, and go around them to avoid more fighting.
They reach the exit, and see Henry waiting for them. He smiles before asking, "You made it! How was it?" They tell him about their adventure, and show him their loot. He whistles and says, "Wow, you guys did great. That's a good haul, too. You ready to head back?"
They nod, and get on the carriage. They feel tired but satisfied. They lean back and relax, enjoying the ride. They talk about their favorite moments, and what they learned. Grog starts, "That giant really got me good, thanks Luna. You're really a lifesaver." Luna replies, "You're welcome, Grog. I'm just glad I could help. You were very brave, facing that thing."
Silva adds, "Yeah, you were awesome, Grog. I'm glad you're okay. You too, Arthur. You threw your sword like a champ." Arthur smiles, "Thank you, Silva. It was a good shot, if I do say so myself." Nya then adds as well, "You all did great. We all made it back alive too, and that's something to be proud of."
"Yeah, we did. What do you all say to having the same team set up for the next dungeon excursion?" Felix asks with his voice hopeful and cheerful.
Silva responds first, "I'm in." Before Grog, Luna, and Arthur also agree. They all high-five, before Grog says, "I don't know about the rest of you, but I'm hungry. Let's go eat a feast at the tavern to celebrate!"
They all agree, and laugh. They arrive at the city, and head to the nearest tavern. They order a lot of food and drink, and toast to their success. They have fun, and bond more. They feel like a real team of adventurers.
They finish their meal, and head back home. They say goodnight to each other, and go to their respective places. Felix and Nya go to Felix's house, where Melina is waiting for them. She hugs them and asks them how it went. They tell her everything, and she listens with awe and pride. She says she's happy for them, and that they deserve a rest. She goes to bed, and leaves them alone.
They go to Felix's room, and cuddle on his bed before going to sleep.
Felix wakes up feeling refreshed and relaxed. He stretches and yawns, and looks at Nya, who is still sleeping beside him. He smiles and kisses her forehead, making her stir and smile back.
"Good morning, beautiful." He whispers, his voice soft and loving.
"Morning, handsome." She replies, her voice sleepy and sweet.
They cuddle for a while, enjoying the warmth and comfort of each other. Then they get up, and get ready for the day. They go to the kitchen, where Melina is making breakfast. She greets them lovingly and serves breakfast.
After eating breakfast, Felix and Nya head to the academy, where they have their usual classes. Today, the teachers focus more on exam preparation, reviewing the topics and skills that will be tested. Felix pays attention and takes notes, feeling confident and like he's getting about as ready as he can be. He also asks questions and participates in discussions, showing his interest and intelligence. Nya does the same in her own class, teaching the students with enthusiasm and clarity.
During lunch break, Felix meets up with Grog, Luna, Arthur, and Silva. They sit together at a table in the cafeteria, and chat about their dungeon excursion. They reminisce about their adventure, and praise each other for their performance. They also talk about their plans for the exams, and how they're studying. They encourage and help each other, feeling like a close-knit group.
In the afternoon, Felix and Nya go home together, and have dinner with Melina. They tell her about their day, and how they're feeling about the exams. She listens with interest and concern, and offers them some advice and support. She also tells them about her own day at the clinic, and some of the interesting cases she dealt with.
After dinner, Felix goes to his room, and works on his mana cultivation. Felix settles into meditation, finds the pathways that have become increasingly familiar over the last few sessions, and circulates mana through them. Maintaining the circulation is already easier than it was Sunday. He doesn't know whether that's because his body is adapting or simply because he's getting better at controlling the process.
Meanwhile, Nya goes to the clinic with Melina, who prepares another treatment for her. Nya is starting to feel less chronically fatigued, but it's still in the early stages. Melina hopes that with more treatments, Nya will eventually feel normal again. She applies the treatment, which involves a combination of herbs, potions, and magic. Nya relaxes and lets Melina work, trusting her completely.
They finish after a while, and Nya feels a bit better. She thanks Melina, and joins Felix in his room while Melina goes to her. They fall asleep together, feeling content and peaceful. They look forward to the exams, and the challenges and opportunities that await them.
Felix wakes up on Thursday feeling nervous and excited. Today is the day of his exams, the final test of his skills and knowledge for this term. He wants to do well, not only for himself, but also for Nya, his friends, and his mother. He gets dressed, eats breakfast, and kisses Nya goodbye. She wishes him good luck, and tells him she'll see him later.
He goes to the academy, where the atmosphere is tense and busy. Students are hurrying to their exam rooms, teachers are giving last minute instructions, and staff are directing the traffic. Felix finds his first exam room, which is for magic. He takes a deep breath, and enters.
Inside, he sees Nya and another teacher who's an older scholarly looking wizard, who will be grading them along with Nya. There are about twenty students in the room, sitting at separate desks. Nya and the other teacher explain the rules and the format of the exam. It will have two parts: a written part and a practical part. The written part will test their theoretical knowledge of magic, such as the principles, the history, the types, and the applications. The practical part will test their actual ability to cast spells, use magic items, and improvise in different scenarios.
The written part begins, and Felix receives his paper. He scans the questions, and feels relieved. They are not too hard, and he knows the answers. He writes them down clearly and concisely, showing his understanding and reasoning. He finishes before the time is up, and hands his paper to the teachers. They nod and take it.
The practical part follows, and the students are called one by one to do their best spell effect. With most students choosing to cast a spell that combines two or more elements, and explain how and why they chose them. Felix waits for his turn, and watches the other students. Some of them do well, and some of them struggle. He sees one student trying to combine fire and water, and failing miserably. He sees another student combining earth and air, and creating a decent sandstorm. He thinks about what he will do, and decides to go with something more creative and complex.
His name is called, and he stands up. He walks to the center of the room, where a large circle is drawn on the floor. The teacher tells him to begin, and he starts to channel his mana. He chooses to combine fire and wind. He casts a fireball, and then uses his wind magic to shape it into a whirling vortex of flames. He explains that he chose fire and wind because they have a synergistic effect. The wind magic provides more air to feed the fire and make it bigger and more intense. He uses mana control to tightly control what area the vortex covers and where it ends, and then dissipates it safely when done. The teachers watch with interest, and ask him some questions about his spell. He answers them confidently and accurately, impressing them both. They thank him, and tell him he can go. He returns to his seat, feeling satisfied and proud.
