Chapter 12: A Goddess’s Petty Mortals

Fractures of Eternity

Sometimes, I wondered if the living things in this world had a death wish.

"Oh, I’m ecstatic that I got picked by him. It’s like a dream come true." I smiled, trying to stay polite to the confrontational vampire.

Even though I didn’t want any trouble, I still tried to prick her for her attitude towards me.

The last thing I need is for you to get in my way, bug.

All I wanted to do was focus on saving the troublesome vampire that Loki turned out to be. Upon hearing my words, she scowled at me as Emma and Zoe tried not to snap.

"Hah, you don’t even hide how much of a disgusting slut you are. I bet you have every man groveling under you with how you look. It must be so nice.” Ivy smirked, thinking she might’ve hit a nerve.

I continued to smile as her words meant nothing to me. My beauty was nothing but a curse for me. There wasn’t an ounce of me that enjoyed the male attention that it brought, even if it made things easier.

Hah… I love how easy it is to project into others what you’re feeling. How would you react if I told you I’ve never had a man other than my father and links touch me? No, I don’t need to prove myself to you or anyone else.

"Excuse me? I can’t quite follow what you’re saying. I came here to work not screw my employer. If that’s what worries you, then you should find solace. I have no intention of mating with the princes. You can all their glory there, Ivy." I answered.

My words caused her eyes to narrow.

Ah... I pissed you off. This is troublesome.

Her hand raised into the air while her eyes reflected pure fire burning within them. When it swung down, Emma grabbed onto her before she thought of doing anything else.

"How about you back the fuck off her, sister?" Emma chided her, who pulled her hand away, throwing the tablet onto the bed next to me.

Instinctively, I picked it up without a care in the world about what almost happened. Without knowing it, Emma probably saved that girl's life. In return for being rescued, Ivy grumbled under her breath, rejoining the other two girls.

Who would’ve guessed that climbing social ranks would be so crucial to mortals?

Emma glared at her from her bed as Zoe held her small knife in her hands. They were both ready to protect me from a silly slap. Even the vampire wasn’t stupid enough to harm a weak human, yet I couldn’t say I wouldn’t have snapped at her.

Perhaps you two aren’t as useless as I thought. You kept her from losing a hand.

"Emma, you’ll get shocked again if you keep acting like that," I warned, scrolling over the tablet.

It triggered her to turn to me with sad puppy-dog eyes. She wanted to go after them, but that wasn’t our aim.

Suppose they figured out that you’re an eternal witch. Surely Zoe and I will follow, which can’t happen. Not now, at least. Still… I need some self-restraint, too.

"But, but!" She pleaded with me to let her roam wild.

Shifting my gaze from the tablet to the troubled witch, I smiled, "I don’t want you to get shocked again, okay?"

Their genuine concern touched me, but I knew it was because of what I was.

A deity to worship… Hah… Damn, still leaves a horrible taste in my mouth.

"Oh... Oh! You’re my goddess!" she squealed, engulfing me in her arms.

For a moment, I was surprised at her sudden affection, prompting a slight giggle to erupt from my lips.

Why do you have to be so random? You’re too much!

“Okay, okay, I get it, now let me go,” I cackled, unable to get used to the touch of another.

I hadn’t laughed this openly like this since Nene, prompting the two witnesses to gush over it.

"Adorable, Vivi, you’re adorable when you’re like this!" Zoe swooned too, before I found myself in another warm embrace.

Though part of me enjoyed being smothered by the two girls. Even though it felt nice, I couldn’t confuse it with what actual affection would be like. These two only cared for me because of what I was.

After I was free, I went back to studying the map, wishing to reassess our situation before going to Loki’s room tonight. Dad always taught me how to analyze a problem, while Lilith showed me how to get out of them.

But your way usually ends up with blood flowing everywhere.

However, thanks to them both, I knew how to survive anything. By the time night fell, I had already learned memorized all I needed in case things didn’t pan out as I wished. I would take the tablet with me, since it was what we would use to order anything we or the princes needed.

I had already eaten and showered for the night, too, as our clock usually ended around seven unless the princes needed us. When it was close to nine, I stood up from the bed, heading towards the door.

“Wait! Maybe it’s best not to go to them right now.” Emma mumbled, stopping me by the door.

“I agree, I have a bad feeling about that boy,” Zoe added.

Ah… You two… I know Loki is a troublemaker, but I don’t think it’ll be anything I can’t handle.

“I’ll be fine.” I assured them, “Plus, there will be people walking around the halls other than me.”

The only thing that worried me was walking alone because of all the vampires around, but it was a crime to suck on someone’s blood without consent, which meant not all of them were crazy enough to attack at random. Sadly, all it took was one desperate one…

No… They have donors. They shouldn’t feel the need to bite me.

“Maybe we should walk you there just in case,” Emma suggested as I shook my head.

“No, it’s fine. I’ll be back before you know it.” I smiled, prompting her to narrow her eyes.

“Nope! We are going!” She declared as I headed out with two tails following behind me.

Once in front of the prince’s room, I hesitated before knocking on the door. One reason was the girls who glared at every little thing that passed by, but the real reason I was nervous was that it was giving me the jitters.

I don’t know what to expect from this vampire who appears intent on testing me. Crap, are you suspecting something? Did they notice something, or is it their familiars?

I had no choice but to push past the emotions and knock on the door. Pulling my hand away from it, I waited a couple of seconds, which felt eternal, especially when he finally answered.
