Chapter 14: Testing a Goddess’s Patience

Fractures of Eternity

Tugging away from my neck, he clasped onto my rogue limb, dragging it away from him and pressing it against the bed once again.

“Fuck, your act’s too good. How about I prove what you said by having you serve me?” Loki smirked, triggering me to close my eyes.

My dress was still partly undone, leaving my chest partially exposed to him.

Crap, I’m not getting out of this one unscathed.

Lilith warned me about what men would want to do to me because of how my body was, but that wasn’t the hints he was giving off. This boy was pushing me to the end of the cliff we were standing on. They were forced into this bond as much as I was, and even told they would die one day.

“Prove?” I mumbled.

He released his grip on my wrist, allowing his hand to travel down my body’s curves and onto my thighs before using his other hand to trail his fingertips on my palm. For some reason, I didn’t hate his touch as I thought I would.

This is troublesome…

My body was that of a mortal girl, leaving me to crave the same cardinal desires as anyone else, even if I hid it better.

“Yeah, your virginity, dearie. Prove to me you’re pure, then I’ll believe you.” Loki declared, suddenly pulling my dress up.

His hand traveled up my leg and into my inner thigh as I had come in uniform, thinking it would be best and respectable for the princes.

How far will I go to stay with these distrusting boys? Hah… That’s a stupid question with a straightforward answer. I’ll do anything to survive. There isn’t a cost that isn’t high enough to live.

Fluttering my eyes open, I tried to get a hold on the marathon my heart was running in. A soft sigh left me when I gazed up towards the ceiling, trying not to feel a single thing. My mask would hold up. The real me would stay deep inside without a place to go. There was no time to feel agony or anger.

“So be it. If that’ll please you, your highness.” My voice shook while I focused on the ceiling, wishing all of this would end soon.

Hah… Why did I save myself until now? I could’ve had anyone I wished, but… I never wanted it. Ah… Is there any point to sex without affection? Isn’t this for mating purposes? Well… if I do it now, at least I’ll know how it feels since no one will ever… truly love me.

Right… If this is going to happen, why not let it be with the two that are supposed to protect me? Hah… that irony would be exquisite for this cruel, beautiful world.

The moment his warm hand was about to touch my underwear, Oz stood up from his chair.

“Enough, Loki, I believe she isn’t here to hurt us for now, at least.” He suddenly declared, clicking his tongue soon after.

The moment those words left his twin’s lips, Loki stopped before getting off me. Instinctively, I held my dress together. Luckily, nothing earth-shattering was shown. Even though everything had stopped, my body shivered as the warmth the vampire had left behind radiated from my skin.

“Damn it, Ozzy. Why did you wimp out now? It was getting to the good part.” Loki sighed, shifting his gaze back towards me.

It seemed he wanted to push me a bit further, as his eyes were still cold towards me. Finally free, I sighed, fixing my dress.

It seems I’ve passed your test for now, or perhaps this is another part of it. I can’t tell.

“Sorry, dear, but you have to understand we’re extra careful about who we let into my lovely brother’s life. Also, don’t go reporting this to anyone. They’ll throw you out either way.” Oswald warned, watching me.

Getting close will be a chore, but it should be fine if you keep everyone at this distance.

“I understand, reporting this never passed my mind in the first place. I need this job more than you two realize.” I answered, catching the brothers off guard.

“What?” They both mumbled as I gazed up at Loki, who was the nearest to me.

His scent still lingered on me, and it was almost intoxicating.

Who knew a man’s touch could do something like that to me?

What was worse, I didn’t perceive them as a threat even after being overly touchy with me. Not even for a moment did I feel fear at his approach, but that probably had to do with how he never intended to do anything in the first place. However, his effect on me wasn’t ignored, and I had to watch out for it.

Your charm can’t consume me.

Their confusion was understandable, as anyone with decent common sense would leave after being harassed like that, but I didn’t come to give up for such a reason. With no hesitation or fear, I faced the bewildered vampire head-on, keeping my mask on.

“Like I said, I have my reasons to be here. Something like this wouldn’t have scared me off even if you had gone through with it. Don’t get me wrong, you would’ve been a pig for doing so, so I’m grateful you didn’t.” I politely smiled, trying to hold my genuine emotions deep inside.

Loki’s eyes twitched, muttering. “A pig, you say?”

Oz chuckled, returning to his seat at the desk. His room was the one right next door, and they even had conjoining doors, allowing them to come as they pleased to one another.

Inseparable twins...

I tried to fight off a devilish smile that wanted to rise from the vampire’s reaction.

This might be too fun.

“Hah, out of all the girls we’ve met, I don’t know if you’re putting up a tough front or if you’re insane,” Loki grumbled, shifting his gaze towards Oswald.

“Am I? So sorry, Your Highness. Perhaps if you teach me why I’m freaky, I can change.” I shrugged, getting up from the bed, and headed for the door for a second time.

For the first time, he quibbled back at me as I reached for the door, only for him to close it as soon as I opened it. Not knowing if this was yet another test, I slowly gazed up at him to see his azure gaze on me. Grabbing me by my chin once again, my body turned to face him, as he was a rather touchy person.

I hated to admit it, but I didn’t dislike it. Lilith told me once that nothing beats having a man or woman, depending on the preference, under them in your complete control. I couldn’t help but wonder if...

Wait... No... No! Vivian… Stop those thoughts there! You and I are enemies, nothing more!

“If you decide to stick around. Stay away from Alistair, sweetie, unlike me, he doesn’t joke around with pretty little ladies.” Loki warned.

Huh? Why bring him up again?

The eldest was a different type of target, but not my priority. I would only get close to him if I had no choice but to kill him.

Then again... It’s normal for you to want your servants away from your half-brother—the one who was fated to kill you.

“You chose me as your maid. Please enlighten me. Why would I need to go near him?” I asked, prompting him to smirk.

“You look like a doll, sweetheart. It’s Alistair’s favorite type of girl. So stay away from him, or you might get hurt.” He informed me.

Hah… Unlike you, if your brother ever lays a hand on me, I’ll plaster him on the wall and both our problems will be fixed.

Sadly, that wasn’t something that I could say to him. The only reason this twin was intact was that he was bonded to my life.

“Oh... I see. Are you implying that he’s worse than you, your highness?” I asked, prompting him to roll his eyes as he brushed some of his hair away from his face.

“Yeah, he is.” He answered, opening the door to reveal my two ‘friends’ right in front.

Upon spotting them, Oswald burst into laughter as Loki’s eyes narrowed and brows scrunched up.

“Eh?! We were just worried about our friend!” Zoe quickly defended as I shook my head.

“Yeah! There’s some raunchy rumors, and we just had to stick together!” Emma followed up as I felt like my head would pop off.

“Right,” Loki huffed as I couldn’t help but giggle at their silly excuses.

Stupid... foolish girls.

The sudden noise that came from me triggered the vampire to suddenly grab me again from my hips, yanking me towards him once again. His lips got close to my ear, allowing his breath to hit my skin again as the sudden motion caused me to shut up before shifting my eyes towards him.

Emma and Zoe both appeared as if steam was releasing from their ears because of his action.

“So, you can genuinely smile when you want to. I wonder if I’ll see you tomorrow.” Loki whispered before letting me go.

Unlike before, I had no reason to interact with his playful tease as I ignored it, walking out. Emma’s and Zoe’s rage, though, was brutal to hide when Loki waved at them playfully. Once free of the brothers, we headed back to the staff’s sleeping quarters.

On the way there, though, the witches both tried to get me to speak about what happened behind the doors, which I only responded to by saying I was tested. However, I kept to myself about what exactly happened. When we got back to the room, I quickly picked out a pair of pajamas and headed into the shared bathroom.

Loki’s scent intoxicated me once again while I took off my dress, as he felt like he was everywhere, and his effect on me was undeniable.

Crap… Get a hold of yourself, Vivian! That was just a stupid mortal boy! Nothing to write home about!

After a couple of huffs, my eyes shifted to the shoulder he had touched as the sensation was hard to drown.

This is… a feeling I’ve never experienced before. Hah… It’s toxic.

The way his voice and breath tickled my skin caused me to bite my lip as my cheeks burned. In this room, I no longer needed to keep a mask on. Looking in the mirror, I could hardly recognize myself.

I look so stupid with my cheeks so freaking red! Argh! Get a grip! This attraction… nothing can come from it. Plus, you’ll hate me the moment you know who I really am.

These two were my targets, and could be nothing more. I turned around to see if their touch affected me in some other way, and it had—an infinity circle with branches that sprouted from the two circles that appeared on my entire back.

It marked our bond, as each of the boys had one identical on their left pecs. Mine only appeared whenever the twins touched me, which was why I hadn’t seen it since that fateful day twelve years ago.

Crap… It takes hours for it to go away.

Taking a deep breath, I managed to shrug off the emotions Loki induced in me before hopping into my pajamas and heading to bed. I needed to be up early for work. Though difficult, I wormed my way into slumber surrounded by a scent I wasn’t used to. However, by clockwork, my night quickly ended at dawn with the same nightmares that always plagued me.

The only saving grace was that I no longer scream myself awake anymore. No, instead, I usually would jolt up, feeling unsteady. No one would ever comfort me, either. I tried to control my breathing when the clock alarms erupted, causing me to get up from the bed.

The rest of the girls were struggling to get out of bed, groaning over having to get up early. We had to be up by dawn to eat, before having to go to work for the princes.

Who knew two mortal boys would be such a pain to save?
