The next morning, Su Su opened her eyes and, still half-asleep, saw a figure.
It was Qin Xutao!
He hadn’t left this morning.
She saw him lift his black tank top, revealing a strong, broad back, every muscle firm and powerful, radiating a strong masculine aura.
Her gaze followed down to his smooth waistline, connecting to solid abs.
Su Su wanted to look longer.
Suddenly, Qin Xutao sensed something and turned around sharply.
He saw the girl in the blanket staring at him with wide eyes, not a hint of shyness, even looking a little expectant.
He paused.
“You’re awake?”
Caught in the act, Su Su buried herself in the blanket and subtly nodded.
Qin Xutao put on his jacket, carefully buttoning it up, each button aligned perfectly, meticulous as ever.
He handed her a document—it was the marriage application.
“Sign your name here.”
Su Su quickly climbed out of the blanket and signed her name on the application.
“Do we need to inform your family about the wedding?”
Qin Xutao looked away, nodding. “The marriage application also needs our parents’ signatures. I’m off this morning, so we’ll go to my family together later.”
Go to the Qin family and meet the parents? So suddenly!?
Su Su’s mind was still foggy, and before she realized it, she was already sitting in the car heading to the Qin household.
In the original story, little was mentioned about the Qin family.
All that was known was that the Qin family was an old revolutionary family, with three generations serving in the military.
Back then, Qin’s grandfather and Su’s father were comrades. After retiring, Su’s father went into business while Qin’s grandfather returned home to recuperate, but the two families stayed in contact.
Later, Qin’s mother suffered a sudden heart attack.
Qin’s grandfather had to seek help from Su’s father, who brought in foreign specialists to treat her.
Su’s father also took this opportunity to propose a marriage between the original girl and Qin Xutao.
The Qin family agreed.
Now, Su Su felt uneasy, unsure how the Qin family would treat her.
After all, Su’s father had long passed away, and how much of the old family ties remained was uncertain.
Plus, with her background as a capital girl, she could potentially hinder Qin Xutao’s promotion—most families wouldn’t accept that. Not to mention, the original girl had caused trouble at the military before, wanting to break off the engagement—would the Qin family know about that?
The more Su Su thought about it, the more nervous she became.
She glanced at Qin Xutao, who was driving with focused determination, seemingly unconcerned.
Sighing, Su Su buried her face in her scarf.
As the saying goes, every ugly daughter-in-law has to meet the parents eventually—today was that day.
The military base was about four hours from the Qin family home.
By around noon, Su Su arrived at the entrance of Qin’s village.
The Qin family village lay at the foot of Bai Mao Mountain, which stretched for thousands of kilometers, thick with vegetation. The air was completely different from the city—deep breaths felt refreshing.
As soon as they got out of the car, they drew attention.
“Isn’t that the eldest grandson of the Qin family? Why’s he back now?”
“Wow, and the girl beside him is so pretty! Is she his girlfriend?”
Before Su Su could speak, Qin Xutao said, “Aunt, she has a boyfriend—she’s my fiancée.”
Nearby, a little boy heard Qin Xutao’s words and wiped his nose blankly.
“Big brother has a fiancée?”
He ran into the Qin house, shouting, “Big brother brought a fiancée home!”
What!?
In the kitchen, Qin’s mother, holding a cleaver, rushed out.
“This fool! Didn’t take care of Su Ya properly, and now he dares to bring someone else home? I’ll skin him alive!”
Qin Xiaofeng, hearing this, laughed. “Great! I’m going to have a sister-in-law!”
Qin’s mother grabbed Qin Xiaofeng’s ear and shouted, “Only Su Ya can enter my Qin family! Anyone else, I’ll drive out!”
“Ouch! Ouch! Mom, what’s so great about Su Su?”
Qin’s mother let go of his ear, grabbed a hoe behind the door, and put her hands on her hips. “Never forget who saved your mother’s life! Haven’t you?”
“We’ve already repaid the Su family’s debt, there’s no need to risk big brother’s marriage anymore!”
Qin’s mother snapped, “What do you know!?!”
“Debts of gratitude can never be fully repaid! Since the engagement is set, you can’t go back on it!”
Qin Xiaofeng rolled his eyes. “Didn’t you already have someone check before, saying she can’t marry big brother? I remember because of that, you even missed a bowl of rice!”
Qin’s mother waved her hand. “That was a scam! Don’t believe it.”
“The other day, I consulted a master. Su Ya is destined to enter our Qin family, no matter what!”
Qin Xiaofeng groaned, turning to complain to Granny Qin.
“Granny, look at mom—what era is this? Why is she still doing superstitious stuff like this?”
Granny Qin chuckled. “Shuying, hurry up, or she really will bring someone into the house.”
Qin Xiaofeng was furious but dared not speak, afraid her mother’s hoe would hit her head.
With that, Qin’s mother charged out with the hoe, calling Qin’s father and grandfather working in the fields.
“Quick! Xutao brought another woman home!”
Hearing this, Qin’s grandfather’s expression turned serious. He immediately ordered Qin’s father, “If he really dares, break his legs!”
Qin’s father nodded vigorously, rubbing his fists and following along.
A group of people marched toward the village entrance.
Su Su followed behind Qin Xutao, greeting countless villagers along the way, all eyes curious yet warm.
Qin Xutao whispered, “Don’t worry, my house is just ahead.”
Su Su nodded.
Raising her eyes, she saw a group rushing toward them.
“It’s Aunt Qin!”
“Why is she holding a hoe?!”
Su Su’s eyes widened—was Qin’s mother coming for her!?
Was it too late to run? Clearly, yes. The Qin family was already close, so Su Su hid slightly behind Qin Xutao.
He frowned and positioned himself to shield her completely.
When Qin’s mother arrived, she saw a girl standing behind her son. Angry, she said:
“Qin Xutao, if you still acknowledge me as your mother, separate from her!”
Qin’s grandfather also looked furious. “How did I raise you? A person must know gratitude! Since you have an engagement with Su Ya, you can’t marry someone else! How else could I face my old comrade?”
Qin’s father agreed. “See, you’ve made your mom and grandpa furious!”
Qin Xutao frowned, about to speak, when a clear, pleasant voice came from behind him.
“Aunt, uncle, Grandpa Qin, I’m Su Su.”
“Oh my! Su Ya! Weren’t you in Shanghai? How did you end up in Heicheng?”
Qin’s mother immediately dropped the hoe, her face lighting up with joy. She grabbed Su Su’s hand and walked her into the Qin household.
