“Come in.” A stern voice came from inside.

Su Su pushed the door open and saw the commander, head down, working on some paperwork. He looked to be around fifty or sixty, with some white hair and a serious expression.

Su Su stood quietly to the side, waiting.Full novel: From Heiress to Army Wife: Marrying a Rough Soldier in the North — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

After an unknown amount of time, the commander finally put down his pen and looked at Su Su.

He seemed to have a good temper, not impatient or rash.

It was just a pity she came from such a family background.

He said in a deep voice, “Do you know why I called you here?”

Su Su nodded.

“Oh? Then tell me.”

Su Su spoke calmly, neither humble nor arrogant: “You want to persuade me to break off my engagement with Qin Xutao.”

“And your thoughts?”

Su Su: “I don’t want to.”

The commander furrowed his brows tightly, his expression serious. He said in a deep voice: “You need to understand, marrying him could very likely delay his career!”

“After all, you’re a wealthy heiress, and Qin Xutao is the most promising candidate to succeed me!”

“I hope you can understand my concern for his future.”

“Also, if he doesn’t get promoted, according to regulations, when he reaches a certain age, he can only retire and return home to farm. Could you endure a life of hardship like that?”

The commander’s gaze was scrutinizing.

Su Su replied calmly: “I won’t let him live a hard life. I can support him!”

After all, the resources in her space were enough for the two of them for generations. Even if Qin Xutao retired, she could take care of him.

“How will you support him!?”

The commander slammed the table in anger. This girl was as stubborn as Qin Xutao!

At that moment, Qin Xutao pushed the door open. He glanced at Su Su and said in a deep voice: “Are you alright?”

The commander banged the table again. “Qin Xutao, what about military discipline!”

Qin Xutao lowered his eyes, standing protectively in front of Su Su.

The commander’s chest heaved with anger, but seeing his stubborn look, he could only wave helplessly:

“Alright, I was just scaring her a little.”

“These two letters of commendation arrived this morning. Your fiancée is amazing! Not only did she hand over her family’s entire factory to the state to support industrial development, but on her way to Heicheng, she also helped catch two human traffickers, allowing the police to trace and capture them all.”

“Here, I’ve approved your marriage report. You’re still young, so a few more years of experience won’t hurt, it might even temper your temper!”

“By the way, don’t forget to go for the premarital check, then you can proceed with the process.”

When Su Su left the commander’s office, it still felt unreal.

She and Qin Xutao were going to get married?

Qin Xutao turned to Su Su: “Let’s go to the hospital for the check-up. If we’re quick, we can get the results by tomorrow.”

Su Su nodded.

The military hospital wasn’t far, and before they realized it, they had arrived at the entrance.

At the hospital, men and women were examined separately.

The check-up mainly included medical history inquiries, routine physical exams, and some tests for infectious and hereditary diseases.

After drawing blood and taking scans, Su Su entered the consultation room with her results and saw a doctor in her sixties with full silver hair.

The doctor smiled kindly: “Miss Su, don’t be nervous. I’m just asking routine questions. Just answer honestly.”

She asked routine questions: whether Su Su had a family history of hereditary diseases, infectious diseases, or mental illness.

Su Su answered one by one.

The doctor nodded while recording the answers.

“One last question, Miss Su. Have you had sexual experience?”

Su Su: “……”

“If you haven’t, some tests won’t be necessary. So please answer truthfully. Of course, everything will remain confidential.”

Su Su shyly nodded: “Yes… with Qin Xutao.”

The doctor smiled knowingly: “Good. Miss Su, lie down on the bed over there, I’ll do the last check, and then you’re done.”

When she walked out of the consultation room, blushing, Qin Xutao was already waiting at the door.

Su Su asked in surprise: “You’re so fast!”

Hadn’t she heard that men also undergo reproductive system checks? Could it be that Qin Xutao didn’t?

Impossible!

He had exhausted her so much last time it felt like her waist would break.

Qin Xutao pressed his lips, moving a worn-out little folder behind his back to avoid her gaze, and explained:

“Soldiers undergo regular check-ups, so most items are already on record at the hospital. Only one or two additional tests are needed.”

He didn’t specify which ones.

Su Su could roughly guess, so she didn’t press further and smiled:

“When the premarital report comes out, we can proceed to the next step.”

Seeing Su Su happy, Qin Xutao’s lips couldn’t help but curve slightly.

By now, it was time for dinner.

Su Su and Qin Xutao went to the military canteen together.

Before, Qin Xutao always brought back food; she had never eaten inside the canteen.

The military canteen was very large, filled with soldiers on both sides. Only the middle row was reserved for officers.

As soon as Su Su stepped in, all the soldiers on either side turned to look at her.

Could she leave now?

The answer: too late!

Su Su had no choice but to brace herself and go to the serving area.

Fortunately, the canteen had a wide variety of dishes. She quickly distracted herself, picked several dishes she liked, and sat down with Qin Xutao.

Some soldiers from another squad whispered: “Is this Captain Qin’s wife? She’s really beautiful!”

The soldiers of Squad A straightened their backs with pride:

“Of course! Our Captain Qin’s wife is not only beautiful but also has great awareness. The notice board even has letters of commendation!”

“Letters of commendation? What happened? Tell us!”

Squad A’s soldiers, busy eating, said: “Go see for yourself. Captain Qin and his wife are truly a perfect match!”

“Don’t even mention it, if they have a child, I wonder how handsome it would be!”

Feeling more people watching her, Su Su quietly asked Qin Xutao: “Why are they all looking at me?”

Qin Xutao scanned the area seriously; their gazes instantly vanished, and he said to Su Su:

“It’s fine. They’re just curious about you.”

“Come on, eat more. I asked the doctor. She said you’re underweight and need to nourish yourself.”

Su Su pouted unhappily. She already ate a lot every day.

But Qin Xutao even checked with the doctor about her premarital results. It seemed he really cared.

Su Su was so happy that she accidentally overate, her belly becoming round and full.

She leaned against the bench, looking at Qin Xutao with a pout: “It’s all your fault. You made me eat so much. My stomach hurts so much. I don’t care—I want you to rub it for me.”
