If he hated her so much, why insist on keeping someone he loathed right in front of him?

“Not willing?

What, planning to sneak off behind my back and flirt with random guys?” Henry’s gaze darkened, voice heavy with sarcasm.Full novel: From His Silent Bride to the Queen of Comebacks — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“Lydia, remember who you are.

You don’t get to say no.”

That said, he didn’t spare her another look and turned to leave.

Lydia froze on the spot, barely registering the scorn in his tone.

It wasn’t until his impatient question cut through the silence that she snapped out of it, eyes reddening as she hurried after him.

He walked fast, even with the prosthetic, so much so that Lydia had to jog to keep up.

Watching him like this, anyone would find it hard to believe he’d lost his left leg.

—Where are we going?

As soon as she got in the car, Lydia asked quietly.

Henry shot her a quick sideways glance.

“No one’s stopping you from staying quiet.” He paused, then let out a cold chuckle.

“Oh, right.

Forgot you already are mute, aren’t you?”

His words cut deep, stabbing straight into her already bruised heart like sharp blades digging in over and over.

Even though she’d been hurt too many times to count, every jab from him still left a sting.

Knowing she wouldn’t get an answer, Lydia shut up and kept her head down.

Silence settled in the car, broken only by the soft rustling of papers as Henry flipped through documents.

That sharp profile, the way he focused—he always had this commanding air, prosthetic or not.

His skill, his looks—none of it ever took a hit.

She wondered quietly to herself: if those awful things hadn’t happened, could things have been different between them?

A bitter smile tugged at her lips.

What a ridiculous thought.

If there hadn’t even been hate between them, they probably wouldn’t have had anything at all.

When the car pulled up to Lawson Corp, Lydia quickly followed Henry out.

The building entrance was already swarmed with people.

The moment Henry showed up, a buzz spread through the crowd.

“It’s Mr.

Lawson!”

“He’s here!”

“Mr.

Lawson, any comment on the former GM’s claim that he was fired for no reason?”

Reporters rushed forward, voices overlapping in a mess of questions.

“Mr.

Lawson.” Jeffery arrived with bodyguards in tow.

He noticed Lydia, clearly surprised, but said nothing—he just signaled the guards to protect Henry, whose expression had turned stone-cold.

“What’s going on?” Henry asked the moment they were inside.

“Mr.

Lawson, it’s Manager Young.

After being dismissed for embezzling, he landed in the hospital, and then we filed a lawsuit.

Now his wife’s claiming we purposely fired her husband knowing he was sick. Find the original chapter at g.com.

She’s demanding justice…”

“Desperate much?” A chill flickered in Henry’s eyes.

“No kidding,” Jeffery sighed.

“We’ve got the upper hand, obviously, but the timing of his illness was just too perfect.

On top of that, someone seems to be stirring the pot.

What should’ve been a minor thing has blown up, and it’s been trending non-stop.”

“Have you found out who’s behind it?” Henry’s eyes narrowed.

“Uh…not yet…” Jeffery felt the pressure hit hard—sweat immediately sprung from his forehead.

“Then what’re you standing there for?

Find out!” Henry barked.

“And outside…?”

“Leave it.” He cut him off coldly.

“Henry!

You cold-blooded bastard—I’ll kill you!”

Right then, a woman, wild-eyed and frantic, burst through the crowd with a knife, lunging straight at him.

—No!

Lydia, who had been close behind Henry the whole time, spotted her first.

Her eyes flew wide in horror.

Her brain blanked, but her body moved on instinct.

Before she could think it through, she threw herself in front of Henry.

Pain exploded in her chest.

—Agh…
