“Manager Xie assigned Mr. Henry’s project to you?”

Chen Yi nodded without the slightest hesitation.

Xia Yu looked at him in shock. A newcomer like him—how could he be qualified to handle a project from a German company?Full novel: From Simp to National Heartthrob — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

“You think you can complete it independently?”

Faced with his colleague’s doubt, Chen Yi didn’t show any sign of anger. Instead, he smiled slightly and said, “If I didn’t have the capability, I wouldn’t have accepted the project.”

Xia Yu hadn’t expected this rookie to be so arrogant, treating him, a senior employee, as if he were invisible.

If it were any other newcomer, just one word from him would’ve been enough to make them hand over the project.

Besides, the German company’s project was a juicy opportunity. He had been the one initially in charge of negotiations, and although it didn’t go through, his contribution still counted.

Now, Chen Yi had picked up the fruits of his labor, acting as if it was all deserved.

Just as Xia Yu was about to lose his temper, he saw Manager Xie walk out of the office.

He had no choice but to suppress his anger and jealousy, let out a cold snort, and turn away.

Chen Yi completed his tasks for the day and left the office right on time.

The next morning, after waking up and checking the time, he quickly freshened up. Today was the day to submit the project report.

This project was crucial for the company, but even more so for him.

After arriving at the office, Chen Yi copied the report from his computer onto a USB drive and stepped into the meeting room.

The moment Mr. Henry from the German company received the report, he began reviewing it.

His face, initially smiling, suddenly turned stern. He looked up at Chen Yi and said in German, “Mr. Chen, there are major issues with the data in this report.”

Manager Xie noticed Mr. Henry’s furrowed brows and obvious displeasure, instantly becoming nervous.

When he had heard from Xia Yu that there was a problem with the report, cold sweat had broken out across his forehead. He regretted assigning such an important project to a new hire.

Chen Yi was momentarily stunned and quickly glanced through the report.

Sure enough, someone had tampered with it.

But he wasn’t fazed at all. He simply asked Mr. Henry to give him ten minutes.

The meeting room went completely silent.

Ten minutes later, Chen Yi handed his laptop back to Mr. Henry.

In that short time, he had used a small design change to resolve a critical flaw.

Mr. Henry’s expression shifted from surprise to delight.

Chen Yi successfully secured the preliminary bid for the project.

“Xia Yu, thank you for giving my design room to grow,” Chen Yi said, blocking Xia Yu’s path and watching him with a half-smile.

“I don’t understand what you’re talking about.”

“You weren’t the one who tampered with the report?”

Xia Yu flatly denied it.

Chen Yi sighed lightly and patted Xia Yu on the shoulder. “Don’t be nervous, I’m just thanking you. Without you, Mr. Henry wouldn’t have seen my capabilities.”

Seeing Chen Yi acting smug, Xia Yu clenched his teeth in frustration and shook off his hand.

Manager Xie saw the scene clearly and understood what had happened.

Within two days, Xia Yu received a dismissal notice.

Everyone in the office was shocked.

Many privately concluded that Chen Yi must have some powerful connection backing him. Otherwise, how could the company fire a veteran like Xia Yu?

And how could someone like Chen Yi land a project from a German company?

Though plenty of people envied or resented him, they still flattered him on the surface.

Chen Yi only gave them a faint smile, without offering any response.

He had achieved everything through his own abilities—he had no so-called backing.

…

“Zhao Mingda, who was that woman just now?”

Zhou Meng had come to Zhao Mingda’s company building, originally wanting to surprise him. But to her shock, he wasn’t at the office.

Just as she was about to leave, he drove up—with another woman in the passenger seat.

Zhao Mingda didn’t expect Zhou Meng to be there and looked visibly annoyed. “Mengmeng, this is a colleague from my company. We just had to run an errand. Why are you here?”

Zhou Meng stared at him with a cold gaze, then curved her lips into a sneer. “Zhao Mingda, do you need to put your arm around your colleague’s waist? Do you think I’m an idiot?” This chapter is updated first at g.com.

She couldn’t believe that after sleeping with him so many times, she still hadn’t gotten a cent.

Even more unbelievable was that he’d gone behind her back to hook up with another woman.

Zhao Mingda gave a look to the woman standing behind him. She caught the hint, nodded, and was about to leave.

But Zhou Meng immediately raised her hand and grabbed the woman’s wrist.

“You’re not going anywhere until you explain this. Tell me, what exactly is going on between you two…”

Before she could finish, Zhao Mingda reached out and took Gu Lin’s other hand, pulling her behind him protectively.

“Zhao Mingda, what do you mean? I’m your girlfriend, and you’re shielding another woman right in front of me?” Zhou Meng gritted her teeth in fury.

Her anger only intensified.

She had given him everything, only to be treated like this.

Zhao Mingda frowned, let out a helpless sigh, and said, “Mengmeng, stop being unreasonable. Gu Lin and I only have a superior-subordinate relationship. Believe it or not, that’s your choice.”

With that, he ignored Zhou Meng, held Gu Lin’s hand, and walked into the building.

Zhou Meng tried to follow, but the security guard stopped her at the entrance.

She was fuming but calmed down after thinking it over.

That woman, Gu Lin, wasn’t even as pretty as her, nor was her figure better.

Zhao Mingda was probably just chasing some novelty—or maybe she had misunderstood the situation.

Zhou Meng returned home angrily, still believing that Zhao Mingda would come to her.

After all, he had once told her in bed that she was the one he loved most.

However, things didn’t go as she expected.

Zhao Mingda didn’t contact her at all, and he didn’t reply to any of her calls or messages.

Thinking it over, Zhou Meng wasn’t willing to give up such a wealthy heir so easily. She went back to the company’s entrance to wait for him again.

“Mingda, why haven’t you answered my calls? What happened last time was my fault. Please don’t be mad at me.”

When she saw Zhao Mingda walking out, she immediately rushed up and wrapped her arms around his arm. Her fair and delicate face wore a flattering smile.

Zhao Mingda heard the tearful tone in Zhou Meng’s voice and saw her pitiful expression. He frowned slightly and said in a low voice, “Mengmeng, getting my forgiveness won’t be that easy.”

“What do you want me to do? I’ll listen to you!”

Zhao Mingda lifted his hand and gently stroked her pretty face. Leaning closer to her ear, he whispered, “Record a video of that loser Chen Yi making a fool of himself. Then I’ll forgive you. How about it?”
