Chen Yi didn’t think much of it when he heard Xu Xuan refer to Gu Mingxue as Director Gu. Even in his previous company, people used to call him Director Chen.

Xu Xuan brewed tea and placed one cup in front of Gu Mingxue, the other in front of Chen Yi.

Chen Yi looked at his respectful and friendly demeanor and couldn’t help but chuckle inwardly. If Xu Xuan knew he was the Chen Yi he disliked most, would he be so furious that he’d stomp his feet?

“No need.”

Then his phone rang. He answered and started discussing the project with Xie Yaohui.

Xu Xuan stood nearby, listening to him on the call. From an outsider’s perspective, Chen Yi looked like a big boss. Little did they know, both he and Xie Yaohui were ranked lower than Xu Xuan.

After hanging up, Xu Xuan couldn’t help but probe, “Mr. Chen, I didn’t expect you to be so busy and still make time to accompany Director Gu. Seems like your relationship is very close.”

Chen Yi answered honestly. There was no reason to pretend, “Not really. That was just my supervisor calling. I’m just an ordinary employee.”

If he had said that as Chen Yi, Xu Xuan might have believed him. But now, standing in front of him as Gu Mingxue’s boyfriend and being addressed as Mr. Chen, Xu Xuan’s mind automatically filled in the blanks—was Chen Yi actually the boss of some IT company?

“You’re really modest. I’ll go handle my tasks now. Just call me if you need anything.”

Just as Xu Xuan was about to leave, the office door burst open with a bang. It was Gu Jiaming.

He glanced at Chen Yi on the couch, then walked over to Gu Mingxue, saying, “Aunt, didn’t you say I’m always idle at home?”

“I’m about to start university, and I heard that starting a business in college could earn you extra credits. So can you fund me? I just need startup capital!”

He rubbed his hands together and grinned at Gu Mingxue.

Gu Mingxue put down her pen and gave him a once-over. “You? Starting a business?”

Gu Jiaming nodded excitedly, “Let me tell you, my classmates and I have had our eye on this project for a while. We’re only short on funding now. I wouldn’t ask you otherwise. Don’t worry, once I make money, I’ll pay you back with interest.”

Gu Mingxue didn’t agree right away. He was still young, and she was worried he might get scammed.

“AI-related!”

Gu Mingxue seemed thoughtful. She glanced at Chen Yi and asked, “What do you think of this type of project?”

But Gu Jiaming got anxious the moment he saw her consulting someone else. His classmates were ready—only he wasn’t.

“This is my business. Why are you asking an outsider?”

“He’s not an outsider. He’s my boyfriend,” Gu Mingxue said bluntly.

But Gu Jiaming looked more upset by this answer than if she had refused his funding request.

He took a step back, pointing at Chen Yi. “Aunt, you’re joking, right? You’re saying this guy is your boyfriend?”

“That can’t be. Weren’t you single? When did you start dating?”

Gu Jiaming walked up to Chen Yi, squinting at him. He thought Chen Yi looked familiar, a bit like that gaming expert. But that guy had a chubby face and didn’t have such a perfect physique.

After all, they’d played games, eaten fried chicken, and drank beer together that night—he remembered clearly.

Just as Chen Yi nervously gulped, worried Gu Jiaming would recognize him, the latter turned back to Gu Mingxue and protested loudly, “No way! He’s obviously a pretty boy—definitely not worthy of you! What if he only got close to you for your money? Haven’t you met enough guys like this over the years?”

“If you really want a boyfriend, I have someone in mind.”

“Do you know Chen Yi? The guy who came to fix the computer that day? I think he’s pretty decent. Everyone says chubby guys are diamonds in the rough. Trust me, I’ll push him to lose weight and he’ll definitely be more attractive than this pretty boy!”

Chen Yi, sitting on the couch, couldn’t help but feel a secret delight. So being a gaming god wasn’t for nothing—it did come in handy.

[Congratulations, host, for earning the title: Low-Key Male God.]

[Reward: Cash yuan.]

He silently raised a fist to his chin and cleared his throat lightly. Just like that, money earned!

Both of them kept the secret perfectly, not exposing Chen Yi’s identity.

But back to the matter at hand—Gu Mingxue firmly rejected Gu Jiaming’s AI project.

“No. The current market for this field is still shallow. Many AI projects are unreliable. Don’t let yourself get fooled.”

Gu Jiaming looked anxious, about to argue when Chen Yi spoke up, “Actually, I think AI projects will be very promising in the future. If you get involved early, you might even gain a foothold in the market.” This chapter was copied from novelping(.)com without permission.

“As long as you tweak the execution plan, it should be workable.”

Gu Jiaming didn’t believe him at all, especially since he was Gu Mingxue’s boyfriend. Judging by his appearance alone, he seemed unreliable.

“Aunt, don’t listen to him!”

“This pretty boy might be trying to scam you. Brat, we just met today, and now you’re buttering me up in front of my aunt with sweet talk!”

“I’m listening to you because you have more experience than me, so your opinion must be reliable!”

However, Gu Mingxue fell into deep thought. She knew who Chen Yi really was, and his words were definitely not spoken lightly.

“Alright then. Actually, I think what Chen Yi said makes sense. I’ll give you the startup funds—as my way of supporting your venture.”

Now it was Gu Jiaming’s turn to be shocked. He was secretly thrilled. Even though he knew the credit went to Chen Yi, he still wasn’t ready to accept him as his ideal gaming god.

“Thanks, Aunt! I knew you loved me most!”

Gu Mingxue glared at him, “Watch your manners. Since I’m investing in you, you’d better do your best!”

“I got it, I got it! But you should really consider what I said—Chen Yi’s actually not a bad choice for a boyfriend!”

As he left, he still made sure to throw shade at Chen Yi in front of Gu Mingxue.

[Knock knock…]

Xu Xuan pushed the door open and rushed up to Gu Mingxue. “Director Gu, Mr. A’s company just called. He’s free for a meeting today. When would you like to go?”

Gu Mingxue’s expression brightened. Mr. A had been a long-sought-after partner. If they could secure this cooperation, it would be hugely beneficial for Gu Corporation.

Gu Mingxue immediately stood up. “Now!”

Chen Yi was curious too. It was his first time seeing Gu Mingxue in work mode—serious and meticulous, yet different from the stereotypical career woman.

“I’ll go with you.”

Gu Mingxue looked at him and nodded with a smile. “Perfect. You can give me some input.”

When they got downstairs, Xu Xuan already had the car ready. As soon as they got in, the driver stepped on the accelerator.
