“He’s lost his mind?”

On the walls of the eastern marketplace, a Mist shinobi couldn’t help blurting it out as he watched Shimura Danzō charge straight toward the city.

After all—this was a man who had just watched a force of a thousand be crushed utterly, effortlessly, by the man inside that marketplace.Full novel: Fugaku Has Gone Mad! — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Any rational person would retreat, hide, or at least maneuver carefully.

“Forget that.

The moment he enters range—attack!”

Mei Terumi cut in decisively.

She didn’t know why Danzō was doing this.

But one thing was certain—he wasn’t a fool.

If he chose this path, there had to be a reason.

And her job… was simple.

Stop him.

Kill him.

Do not let him interfere with Uchiha Fugaku’s recovery.

“Attack!!”

As Danzō reached the base of the wall, Mei gave the order—and a storm of jutsu rained down.

Among them was her own Kekkei Genkai—

“Lava Release: Melting Apparition Technique!”

Scalding, corrosive lava surged from her mouth like a crimson serpent, locking onto Danzō midair as he leapt toward the wall—cutting off every possible escape route.

And then—

He melted.

Like wax dropped into a furnace, his body dissolved completely.

“…Guess he really was insane.”

Chōjūrō let out a breath, even clapping lightly in relief.

“So this ‘Darkness of Konoha’ is nothing but—”

“Wind Release: Vacuum Serial Waves…”

A cold, aged voice echoed—right beside their ears.

But it didn’t come from outside the wall.

It came from within.

Invisible wind blades erupted without warning, slicing through the air like a storm of unseen knives!

Judging from Danzō’s fully expanded chest, he had prepared this jutsu for a long time—combined with a teleportation-like movement, almost akin to Flying Thunder God, leaving the Mist ninja no time to react.

In an instant—

The wall turned into chaos.

Blood sprayed.

Screams rang out.

Chōjūrō froze mid-sentence.

His body went limp.

Looking down, he saw it—

A gaping hole torn clean through his abdomen.

“Chōjūrō!!”

Ao’s shout trembled with fury.

“Ao, stay with him!

The rest of you—after me!”

Outside the wall, Mei clenched her teeth, glanced once at Chōjūrō—and charged out.

But that brief delay was enough.

Using the recoil of his Wind Release, Danzō had already reached the ground, sprinting toward the heart of the marketplace—toward Fugaku.

On the rooftops, Danzō moved like a hunting cat, his right eye now exposed.

Gone was the bandage.

In its place—

A Mangekyō Sharingan shaped like a spinning shuriken.

Shisui’s eye.

The strongest genjutsu in existence.

Through it, he locked onto Fugaku.

There—kneeling on one knee in the plaza, one hand on the ground, the other clutching his forehead.

His body trembled, but his chakra remained immense—far beyond ordinary shinobi.

More importantly, that chakra carried a unique, vibrant life force—impossible to imitate.

Everything matched the observations Danzō had recorded earlier.

Around him stood over seventy Uchiha, forming a loose defensive ring.

Their chakra varied—real, uneven, alive.

No uniformity.

No weakness.

No signs of clones.

“Confirmed.

The real one.”

The last trace of doubt vanished.

Behind him, Mei was closing in.

He only had one chance.

No hesitation.

No concealment.

Danzō charged.

The Uchiha reacted instantly—over twenty shinobi formed hand seals simultaneously, unleashing a massive composite technique.

Danzō didn’t slow.

His hands moved.

“Wind Release: Vacuum Great Sphere!”

A compressed sphere of chakra blasted forward, colliding with the Uchiha’s flames—

“BOOM!!”

Wind fed fire.

The explosion surged skyward, forming a miniature mushroom cloud.

And within it—

Danzō was consumed again.

“…Dead again?”

Less than fifty meters away, Mei froze—then immediately began scanning the battlefield.

And there—

Inside the Uchiha formation.

Just a few meters from Fugaku—

Danzō appeared.

Unscathed.

Not a burn.

Not a tear.

“…What kind of cursed jutsu is this…?”

“Uchiha Fugaku!”

Danzō didn’t hesitate.

“Kotoamatsukami.”

His Mangekyō spun.

An invisible wave of ocular power surged forward, silently invading Fugaku’s mind—

Command:

Die.

The kneeling Fugaku stiffened.

Then—

Without hesitation—

He drew a kunai and slit his own throat.

The blade cut flesh, severed his windpipe, tore open arteries—

Blood erupted like a fountain.

His body swayed.

Collapsed.

Silence.

Everyone froze.

Shock spread across Uchiha faces—disbelief replacing vigilance.

Their leader… the man who had led them across nations, deceived Konoha, created miracles—

Dead?

Like this?

So absurd?

So… meaningless?

Then—

A scream tore through the night.

“SHIMURA DANZŌ!!!

I WANT YOU DEAD!!!”

Mei’s eyes turned bloodshot.

She abandoned all restraint.

All tactics.

All defense.

Even her own life.

She became a blur, charging straight at Danzō with suicidal speed.

“Lava Release: Melting Apparition Technique!!”

This time, the lava surged twice as wide—flooding, devouring, obliterating everything in its path.

Stone hissed and melted.

Air warped with heat.

“Madwoman!”

Danzō’s expression finally changed.

He formed seals rapidly.

“Wind Release: Vacuum Waves!”

But Mei didn’t care.

She kept advancing—spitting lava nonstop, like a berserk cannon.

“Lava Release: Lava Barrier!”

Walls of molten sludge rose—not to defend, but to trap.

The battlefield became a death zone.

Danzō was forced to flicker repeatedly, tearing through obstacles with wind jutsu, barely escaping—were it not for Hashirama cells fueling his chakra, he might have already fallen.

And yet—

Amidst all this—

The Uchiha stood… frozen.

They should have been enraged.

They should have exploded into madness.

Awakened new eyes.

In fact, Uchiha Yashiro’s three tomoe had begun spinning wildly—

But when they saw Mei…

That sheer, unhinged fury…

He stopped.

“…What is going on?”

he muttered.

“You tell me.”

Another Uchiha shrugged, equally stunned.

And then—

A voice spoke beside them.

“Because… our clan leader’s greatest wish all these years…”

“was simply… to get married.”

Everyone turned their heads.

At some point, Ao had already arrived.

His clothes were still stained with blood—Chōjūrō’s blood.

After confirming the boy wasn’t in immediate danger, he rushed over.

After all, Shimura Danzō’s abilities were far too strange to ignore.

“These past years… every man who went on a blind date with our clan leader…” Ao said helplessly, “never made it out unscathed.”

“At best, they left heavily injured.

Broken arms and legs are common.

That’s why, even though our clan leader is stunningly beautiful, no one dares to approach her.”

“This time… she finally found someone like Fugaku—someone who isn’t ‘cursed,’ someone powerful enough, someone capable of leading the Uchiha out of despair… and yet…”

He didn’t finish the sentence.

He didn’t need to.

“…Uh…”

“Fall back!”

Ao suddenly shouted.

“That’s our clan leader’s Boil Release!”

As his warning rang out, everyone saw it clearly—

At the center of the battlefield, Mei Terumi stopped spewing lava.

Her hands formed seals—

“Boil Release: Skilled Mist Technique!”

From her mouth poured not acid, but dense, milky-white steam—high-temperature, high-pressure vapor that corroded everything it touched.

Danzō retreated rapidly, his expression still calm.

After all, he had already resolved himself to die.

I still have one Sharingan left… one more Izanagi…

But facing Mei in this state—and with Ao’s Byakugan watching from afar—

There was no escape.

In that case—

Danzō slammed his hands together, biting his thumb as blood flowed.

“Summoning Jutsu!”

A massive plume of smoke erupted.

From within it emerged a colossal beast—its size rivaling the toads of Mount Myōboku.

Long trunk, large ears, bloated body, gray-white skin—

Danzō’s summon: Baku.

“Baku!

Blow away that steam!”

The creature opened its mouth, inhaled deeply—

Then unleashed a violent hurricane!

The pressure alone tore up stone tiles from the ground.

The boiling mist was blasted backward, temporarily forcing Mei’s attack to recede.

“Now—absorb!”

Baku inhaled again—but this time, it devoured.

A terrifying suction force erupted from its mouth, like an invisible vortex.

Air, debris—even distant shinobi—were dragged toward it!

Facing directly toward the Uchiha formation, dozens were caught off guard, pulled into the air as they struggled helplessly against the overwhelming force.

Danzō stood beside Baku, watching coldly.

Yes—

He had chosen mutual destruction.

He still had one Sharingan left—one final use of Izanagi.

So his plan was simple:

Drag as many Uchiha as possible into range.

Die.

Then, with Izanagi rewriting reality, reappear at the center—

And activate Reverse Four Symbols Sealing, trapping everything within several hundred meters.

This… was the last thing he could do for Konoha.

At that moment, one of the airborne Uchiha managed to steady himself mid-flight.

Drawing his blade, he used the suction’s acceleration to drive it forward—

A flash of steel, straight for Danzō’s heart.

Danzō saw it.

But he didn’t dodge.

Instead, he subtly adjusted his stance—guiding the blade to strike true.

Because this was exactly what he needed.

Death.

The trigger for Izanagi.

The blade pierced his chest.

Cold pain surged through him.

He waited.

Waited for Izanagi to activate.

Waited for time to rewind.

Waited for death to become illusion.

But…

Nothing happened.

The pain remained.

Blood poured from the wound, staining his robes.

Danzō froze.

He looked down at the blade in his chest—

Then up at the “Uchiha” holding it.

The man’s face began to change.

Black sludge receded, peeling away—

Revealing a familiar face.

Uchiha Fugaku.

Standing there, smiling calmly.

“Been waiting for you, Elder Danzō.”

His voice was quiet—

Yet it echoed clearly across the entire plaza.
