*AEGON V — THE RETURN *
They flew low over the Dothraki Sea at sunset. The sky was orange and the grass was gold.
Below them, dust like a storm — 40,000 horses riding hard west. Khal Pono rode at the front with no bells now, just burnt beard. The boys from Storm's End had never seen so many horses. They would when they caught up.
Above, six dragons in a V.
Drogon in front, huge, scarred. Voidscale on his right wing, black , refusing to fly behind anyone. Viserion cream-gold next to Aegnis . Rhaegal green-bronze next to Chaosfyre.
The wind was so loud you had to shout.
"You have ash in your hair!" Daenerys shouted to Aegon.
"You have ash everywhere!" he shouted back. His shoulder wrap was bleeding through. The arrow cut was small but deep.
She flew closer. Drogon growled at Voidscale for coming too close. Voidscale growled back, showing teeth.
"Your dragon is jealous!" she laughed.
"My dragon learned it from me!" Aegon shouted before he thought.
Dany blinked. Then she smiled — that slow smile Missandei said made men stupid.
"Jealous of what, nephew?"
Aegon's face went red under the ash. The wind was trying to take his words.
"That — that Drogon gets to carry the most beautiful queen in the world and Voidscale only gets me!"
She laughed so loud even Drogon turned his head.
"Who taught you bad Valyrian and taught you bad flirting!"
"I learn by myself, It worked though! You're looking at me!"
"I am always looking at you," she said, softer now, in High Valyrian so the wind would hide it. "_Tala Muña, issa ōdres zaldrīzes muña._ My son, you are my brother's son but you fly like my brother never did."
He flew even closer. So close their knees almost touched across dragons.
"When this is over — when Meereen is safe —" he said, voice dropping, "will you teach me to fly better? Not like a maester book. Like you."
"I will teach you everything," she said. "If you teach me how you kept three dragons hidden in STORM'S END ."
"I told them you would come. They waited for you."
Voidscale sneezed black smoke right onto Drogon. Drogon sneezed back, fire.
Below, the Dothraki saw six dragons sneezing fire at each other and thought it was a signal. They shouted louder:
"_ZALDRĪZES! ZALDRĪZES ATHDRIVAR!_"
Daenerys reached out her hand over the empty air. A thousand feet of nothing below.
"For Meereen?" she said.
Aegon reached and caught her hand for one second — hot, ash-covered — before the dragons drifted apart.
"For you," he said, not flirting now, just true.
She didn't let go at once.
