The heavy atmosphere of the first half disappeared as soon as William's boots touched the green pitch. As he stepped over the white line, an unexplainable feeling of greatness consumed him from within because he knew that this was where it all began. To the thousands of fans in attendance, he was just a sub who came on to replace a fading team, but to William, this was his time to shine on the world's stage.
The referee blew his whistle to signal the start of the second half. The game began to flow and soon, it was Blackpool FC who were in possession of the ball. Any observer would have noticed the difference in the team since they had substituted William on to the field. He moved as if he had been dancing across the green grass and always seemed to have his eyes peeled for an opening. He made passes so clinical that the Brentford defenders started to look like mere shadows that had no substance. William had the ball at his feet, and every time he did, he always seemed to know where every opponent and ally was so that he could control the game's pace.
Coach Lincoln stood at the edge of the stadium with his arms crossed against his chest. However, the excitement was bubbling within him as he saw his young player do magic on the pitch. Coach had the power to feel the aura that William had created with his actions on the pitch, and he was so proud to see such power in a young man like him. For a while, the stadium went silent as everyone watched the amazing boy with wide eyes.
Even the fans who were on the railings were leaning forward, whispering to each other about who this lovely child was and asking who he was to have come out so strong.
William had not heard the murmurs, but he had felt the stares as the power of his prophetic gaze grew stronger.
As the 51st minute approached, William found himself with the ball about 10 yards from the Brentford box. Two Brentford defenders were charging towards him with their shadows stretching on the pitch, but he stood his ground like a mountain. He saw Fernandes sprinting down the left flank, keeping just enough distance from the defenders to avoid being offside.
He flicked his ankle and sent a beautiful through ball that opened up the whole of Brentford's defense. The ball curved through the air with the precision of a hot knife through butter and landed perfectly at Fernandes' feet.
The crowd gasped as the beautiful ball rolled through the Brentford defense, and Fernandes used his step-over to beat the right-back and race towards the box. Fernandes saw William come charging in to receive the ball, and he sent a powerful pass back towards the box. The ball arrived at William's feet with a challenging height and placement that would have been difficult for the best striker to keep possession of, but William's athletic ability shone as his body twisted elegantly in the air to meet the ball at the tip of his boot. He was uprooted from the air for a second and landed in a strange position, but he bounced back on to his toes, showing that his ankle was fully recovered from its previous injury.
A Brentford defensive midfielder came sliding in to steal the ball, but William's agility was simply too good as he executed a dazzling Cruyff turn to get rid of him. The midfielder hit the deck as William turned on his heels and took off towards the box. William did not turn towards the goal; instead, his eyes fell on Morgan who had managed to make space for himself near the penalty spot. With a beautiful touch, William passed to him, leaving the goalkeeper helpless as Morgan was gifted a clinical finish.
Thud!
The Blackpool fans erupted as the ball flew past the astonished Brentford goalkeeper.
"GOAAAAAL!"
screamed the fans. Their cheers soon turned into chants as the fans raised their voices to fill the stadium. William felt so good hearing his name being cheered, but he quickly shook off the emotion as he knew that he was supposed to be focused. He wanted to be a legend, but this praise would only test his concentration. He took a deep breath, filling his lungs with the cool night air to steady his racing heart. He had to remind himself that the best legends were not made in a day, and there was more to this match than just one goal.
William was back on the pitch, and this time, his focus was on the game rather than the cheers from the crowd. The game was on, and his desire was to be a legend, but William's mind was clear as he knew it would do him no good whatsoever to let the crowd distract him. He wanted to be a legend, but legends were not made by little things like praise. William stayed focused on the game as he tracked back to help his own defense. He passed the ball and called out instructions to his teammates. He was so focused on the game that he was a shield for the Blackpool defense as he cut out passes from the Brentford attackers.
The tension in the stadium was at its peak as the 86th minute arrived, with Brentford laying everything on the line to get a goal. Their left-back sprinted down the flank and played a perfect curling ball into the path of Jamal who waited patiently at the edge of the box. Jamal trapped the ball delicately with his chest and his eyes seemed to sparkle as he saw the open goal in front of him. For a moment, it looked as if he was about to complete a remarkable turnaround for Brentford.
However, William's eyes were on Jamal the whole time, and as soon as he drew his foot back to shoot, William slid forward and stole the ball with a well-timed challenge. William's timing had been immaculate as he hooked the ball away from Jamal's foot, and he did not make the mistake of making contact with the boy's skin. Jamal shot the air as he hit the deck.
William did not stop to look at his old bully; instead, he got up on to his feet, and the ball was already at his feet.
The Brentford goalkeeper had gone forward too far to act as a sweeper for his defense, and William knew that he had struck gold. He had an incredible view of the whole pitch and, this time, he did not waste any time looking for a teammate. William took a couple of running steps to set himself and then sent a beautiful long-range shot on goal. The ball soared towards the goal, and the stadium lights cast a shadow over the ball as it flew through the air. The whole stadium seemed to hold its breath as they watched the ball fly through the sky.
The goalkeeper dived forward in an attempt to stop the ball from entering the net, but it proved to be in vain as the ball soared over his head and bounced off the turf before finding its way into the back of the net.
The whole stadium went crazy as the noise was enough to shake the windows of the stadium. The whole team was cheering, and William's teammates were already on their way to congratulate him. The scouts had also stood up and clapped their hands together in delight. William dropped to his knees on to the pitch, staring at the ball that he had scored an incredible goal with. He felt his tears running down his cheeks as he could not believe what had just happened.
"GOOOOOOAAAAAALLLLLL!"
That was what the reporter was saying, but all William could hear was the sound of his own heart beating. William looked over at Jamal who was on his knees looking devastated. The shadow finally overtook the sun as William's teammates jumped on to him to congratulate him.
This was so much more than just a win for the team; it was a victory for all the dreams and hopes that William had planted deep within himself, and he stayed on his knees for a while to bask in the glory of the game he had just played.
