The concrete floorboards of the Worli Amphi-theater groaned beneath five thousand stomping boots.
Rudra’s fingers didn’t merely touch the steel strings of the black acoustic guitar.
They attacked them with virtuosic, percussive mastery.
THUMP-SLAP-TAP!
His thumb hammered the wooden soundboard to set an infectious, thundering heartbeat.
While his fingers blurred across the fretboard in a terrifying fusion of Western slap-guitar and ancient Carnatic swara patterns!
He didn’t even look down at the neck.
The instrument was an extension of his nervous system, weeping and roaring in fluid, seamless succession.
In the front-row VIP box.
Pritam dropped his lighter.
Beside him.
Vishal Dadlani and Shekhar Ravjiani shot out of their executive chairs.
Their jaws hanging open as they stared at the young titan commanding the centre stage.
“What the hell is that acoustic velocity…?” Shekhar breathed, his eyes wide in disbelief.
“Slap harmonics fused with a high-octane Sufi tempo?!”
“Nobody in this country attacks a live stage like that!”
Rudra stepped into the centre microphone.
Ya Ali (Gangster)
He closed his eyes for a fraction of a second, drawing breath from his deep core, and unleashed a ferocious, raspy roar that shook the scaffolding:
“Ya Ali reham Ali…
Ya Ali yaar pe qurbaan hai sabhi!
Kahin na kisi ko sukoon hai…
savera aawara dhoop hai!”
(O Divine Protector, bestow your mercy…; For the sake of the beloved, all is sacrificed!; Nowhere can peace be found…; Even the dawn is but wandering sunlight!)
The amphi-theater detonated into pure acoustic anarchy!
The register carried the untamed, bleeding rage of Zubeen Garg’s cult classic, but Rudra’s raw baritone gave it an explosive, arena-rock density.
Jasmine Sandlas seized her wireless mic, stepping shoulder to shoulder with him.
Her smoky, gravelly California-Punjabi timbre clashed and harmonized with his deep roar, matching his fury note for note like a wild storm meeting a mountain!
Before the crowd could catch its breath.
Khuda Jaane (Bachna Ae Haseeno)
As his fury melted into romance, the stadium strobes shifted to oceanic blue.
Rudra’s velvet baritone bled into Jasmine’s smoky timbre, resurrecting Vishal–Shekhar’s Bachna Ae Haseeno ballad but here.
It wasn’t Ranbir and Deepika’s youthful love story.
It was a cosmic surrender, carved in blood and fire.
Rudra shifted his grip with an aggressive, sliding chord progression.
The blistering rage softened into a sweeping, celestial romantic cadence.
The stadium strobes shifted from chaotic strobe-flashes to a deep, oceanic azure.
Rudra turned to Jasmine.
His golden eyes burning down into her hazel gaze with an ache so profound, so devastatingly tender, that her throat tightened.
He stepped close, his deep velvet baritone weeping with pure, unconditional surrender:
“Khuda jaane ke main fida hoon…
Khuda jaane main mit gaya…
Khoon-e-jigar se likhi yeh daastaan!”
(The heavens alone know that I am irrevocably enchanted…; God knows that my mortal ego has dissolved…; This saga has been carved with the sacred blood of my heart!)
Jasmine’s breath hitched.
Looking into his radiant face.
She lost all track of the five thousand screaming spectators.
She tilted her head back, her gravelly, soulful pitch blending into his in an acoustic embrace:
“Tu mileya toh rab mileya…
Kasam lage teri, main teri ho gayi!”
(Finding you was like touching the face of God…; I swear upon your life, my soul belongs solely to you!)
The amphi-theater was paralyzed in breathless, tear-filled awe.
Pritam leaned over the VIP railing, his cigarette completely forgotten in his fingers.
“He moves between raw destruction and sacred romance like water,” Pritam whispered, his eyes gleaming with mad artistic hunger.
“The boy isn’t just singing…
he is tearing his own heart open on stage.”
Then—
Rudra snapped his fingers, breaking the solemn reverence with an electrifying, dangerous smirk!
“Coke Studio…
are you ready for the real madness?!” Rudra roared, raising one hand high!
Mauja Hi Mauja (Jab We Met)
With a dangerous smirk.
Rudra snapped the tempo into Pritam’s undisputed party monster from Jab We Met.
The anthem that once set Kareena’s feet ablaze now detonated in Worli, transformed into a bhangra‑rock sprint that made the amphi-theater go feral.
SLAP-STRUM-BOOM!
He kicked the tempo into an unhinged, high-velocity Bhangra-rock sprint, launching directly into Pritam’s undisputed 2007 party monster, Mauja Hi Mauja!
“Mauja hi mauja…
shaam-o-sehar ab mauja hi mauja!
Pyaar paake tere naal main toh nachna…!”
(Unbridled celebration everywhere…; Revelry from dawn until the deep night!; Having tasted your love, my soul can only dance…!)
The arena went completely feral!
Rudra swept his arm around Jasmine’s waist, pulling her flush against his broad chest without missing a single percussive tap on the guitar!
Jasmine threw her head back, laughing with pure, electric abandon as she coiled her toned, smooth leg firmly around his hip!
Their faces were inches apart.
Reaching out with a wicked grin.
“GO JASMINE!
GRAB HIM!” thousands of girls in the front row screamed in ecstatic frenzy!
Jasmine cupped his chiselled jawline, inhaling the intoxicating deluge of dark vanilla, wild honey, and burning cedarwood pouring off his skin.
Her senses spun; she wanted to crush her lips against his right then and there.
Tum Mile (Tum Mile)
As the frenzy subsided.
Rudra pivoted into the tender finale.
Pritam’s storm‑soaked ballad from Tum Mile.
But instead of Emraan Hashmi’s rain‑drenched romance.
Rudra and Jasmine delivered it as a sunset hymn, a warm embrace that sealed the night in eternal grace.
Without missing a beat.
Rudra pivoted on his heel, using the infectious groove to transition into a gentle, swaying acoustic finale.
The tempo settled into a warm, sunset-hued melody:
“Tu mile…
dil khile…
aur jeene ko kya chahiye!
Tum mile toh mil gaya yeh jahaan…
Tum mile toh har khushi hai meherbaan!”
(When you meet my gaze, my heart blossoms; what else could life ever demand!; In finding you, I have claimed the entire universe…; In your presence, every blessing becomes an eternal grace!)
Backstage, the executive broadcast coordinator was screaming into his headset:
“I DON’T CARE ABOUT THE SATELLITE DELAY!
PATCH THIS FEED LIVE ACROSS ALL MTV REGIONAL NETWORKS!”
“STREAM IT NATIONWIDE!
WHO THE HELL IS THIS GUY?!”
Across Mumbai, television sets flickered as the live national broadcast cut through prime-time programming.
In a penthouse in Juhu.
Aishwarya Rai Bachchan paused while setting down a crystal tea mug.
Clad in an emerald-green silk kaftan, her legendary almond-shaped, sea-green eyes widened as she took in the towering, 6’3″ titan commanding the stage with effortless grace.
She leaned closer to the screen, her sculpted, timeless bone structure softening as her breath hitched at the sheer, hypnotic royalty in his golden eyes.
In her Bandra apartment.
Katrina Kaif stood frozen before her mirror, a white towel resting over her toned, alabaster shoulder.
Dressed in grey gym tights and an athletic tank, her flawless, peach-toned European-Indian features flushed with quiet heat.
Staring at the screen, her pink lips parted in utter astonishment as she watched the raw kinetic energy of his movements, feeling a strange, unfamiliar flutter behind her chest.
In an ocean-view suite.
Deepika Padukone lowered her training script.
Tall, long-limbed, and radiant with a dusky, sun-kissed complexion, her sharp hazel eyes locked onto his bronzed frame.
She traced the razor-sharp valleys of his eight-pack core with a quiet, breathless intensity, her dimples faintly flickering in fascination.
In a vanity trailer at Film City.
Priyanka Chopra dropped her cosmetic brush.
Her full, iconic lips parted, a slow, dangerous smirk spreading across her golden-caramel face.
Dressed in a low-cut crimson wrap dress.
She leaned forward, her dark, feline eyes flashing with electric hunger as she watched him handle the crowd, mesmerized by the untamed masculinity bleeding through the speakers.
In her suburban duplex.
Kareena Kapoor set down her designer coffee tumbler.
Draped in a chic pastel robe, her milky-fair skin and striking, high cheekbones were painted with sheer shock.
Her expressive, hazel-green eyes traced his wide shoulders and commanding posture, her lips curving into an appreciative, sultry pout at his unapologetic confidence.
In their respective homes.
Preity Zinta leaned forward with wide, dimpled curiosity, her porcelain cheeks glowing.
Genelia D’Souza giggled in sheer disbelief, her expressive, doe-like eyes sparkling at his radiant energy.
While newcomers Shraddha Kapoor, delicate and doe-eyed.
Diana Penty, regal and statuesque; and Tamannaah Bhatia, with her luminous, fair South-Indian grace, stood glued to their screens.
Their cheeks burning as they watched his raw swagger.
Across the film capital, from reigning royalty to rising starlets.
A single, synchronized whisper escaped their lips:
“Kaun ho tum…?”
(Who on earth are you…?; Who is this mysterious titan?)
Worli — Sunshine Children’s Shelter
The small communal living room of the modest orphanage was filled with the sweet, lingering scent of leftover buttered pav and warm malai kulfi.
Eight young children were scattered across the cotton rugs, surrounded by bright red and blue helium balloons, playing with newly bought wooden spinning tops and painted toy cars.
The elderly Matron Dadi stepped into the hall.
A tired, gentle smile on her weathered face as she clapped her hands softly.
“Alright, my little angels.
The feast was grand, but it is time to wash up and go to sleep.
Long day tomorrow.”
The children groaned, but a tiny six-year-old girl with dark pigtails.
The same girl who had fed Rudra a bite of her pav bhaji on the sand- suddenly paused.
Her eyes locked onto the ancient, wall-mounted color television humming in the corner.
Her jaw dropped.
Her little hands clamped over her mouth in pure, disbelieving shock!
“DADI MAA!
LOOK!
LOOK AT THE TV!” the little girl shrieked, pointing frantically at the screen!
“BHAIYA IS ON THE TELEVISION!
THE KING IS SINGING FOR US!”
The other seven children scrambled across the floor, swarming the television set like a frantic tide!
She walked slowly toward the glowing screen, her trembling hand coming up to her chest.
There he was.
Bathed in blinding white spotlights, wielding a black guitar with raw majesty.
His piercing liquid-gold eyes glowing through the screen.
The very same boy who had wept on the sand while treating her children like sacred royalty.
“Beta…” the matron whispered softly, fresh tears rolling down her wrinkled cheeks as she smiled with boundless maternal pride.
“The heavens truly walk beside you.”
Aram Nagar — A Cramped Two-Room Chawl
Vijay Varma and Jaideep Ahlawat were practically kicking their wooden door down.
Their faces flushed with wild, hysterical triumph!
Vijay carried grease-stained paper bags brimming with piping-hot samosas and spicy vada pavs, while Jaideep held a fresh box of yellow motichoor laddoos.
Against all industry odds.
Mohini Kashyap had personally signed both of them as the dual male leads opposite Vidya Balan in an upcoming rustic noir feature titled Ishqiya!
“I still can’t believe it, Jaideep bhai!” Vijay laughed, wiping tears of joy.
“That Rudra guy…
he was a damn guardian angel!
The moment he spoke our names, our whole destiny flipped!”
“We’ll find him, Vijay,” Jaideep smiled, his rough, rugged features softening with deep gratitude.
“I know we will.”
The door flew open.
Standing in the doorway was their third roommate.
A lean, hungry actor named Rajkummar Rao.
His face lit up with manic excitement as he held out an official contract copy.
“SURPRISE!” all three roared simultaneously, colliding in a chaotic, weeping group hug!
“I landed the parallel lead in Dibakar Banerjee’s Love Sex Aur Dhokha!” Rajkummar shouted, laughing like a madman!
“And we just signed the lead contracts for Ishqiya with Maya Mirage!” Vijay yelled back, dragging them inside to the small wooden table.
As they tore into the snacks.
Vijay excitedly recounted the afternoon:
“Raj, you should have seen the guy who saved us!”
“A complete Greek god—six-foot-three, built like a fortress, wearing a black vest…
and the craziest part?
His eyes…”
Rajkummar froze, his hand hovering over the television remote.
He slowly turned his head, staring at Vijay with wide, bewildered eyes:
“Does he…
have glowing, liquid-gold eyes?”
Vijay and Jaideep stopped chewing, their eyes narrowing in suspicion.
“How the hell do you know that?!
Did you meet him too?!”
Rajkummar didn’t answer.
His trembling hand pointed the remote at the small, dusty colour television in the corner, cranking the volume to maximum.
The screen flared with the live MTV broadcast.
Standing on the Worli stage, bathed in blinding white spotlights, was Rudra.
SPLASH.
The hot vada pav slipped straight from Vijay’s fingers.
The box of laddoos tumbled from Jaideep’s numb grasp, rolling across the linoleum floor.
Both actors stood frozen like stone statues.
Their brains entirely short-circuiting as Jaideep let out a single, hollow, and horrified curse:
“Madarchod…”
(Holy mother of…; Are you fucking kidding me?)
Back at the Worli Amphitheater—
The frantic rock beats finally subsided into a heavy, ringing stillness.
Rudra unclasped the leather biker jacket, shrugging it off his broad shoulders and tossing it into the screaming crowd, exposing his sculpted, bronzed upper torso beneath the fitted black vest.
He reached up, unhooking the wireless microphone from the stand.
He didn’t launch into another explosive party anthem.
Instead, he turned toward the five thousand fans.
His golden eyes sweeping across the stadium, and slowly, peacefully…
He closed his eyes.
A deep, sacred silence descended over the arena.
Pritam leaned forward over the VIP railing.
Vishal and Shekhar held their breath.
Jasmine Sandlas stood beside him.
Her hand pressed against her throat.
Arijit leaned against the drum riser, his soul trembling.
And far away in the Bandra living room, Jackie, Ayesha, and Krishna leaned toward their television set in paralyzed awe.
Rudra tilted his head upward toward the vast, starlit Mumbai sky.
And from the corners of his closed, peaceful eyes—
Two clear, silent tears escaped his lashes, rolling slowly down his chiselled cheeks like liquid diamonds beneath the stage lights.
” SATI ”
[ Chapter End ]
Damn, this chapter brought back such good memories of my DU fests and IIT fests.
I’ve been on those stages myself.
A wanna be singer with a decent grip on the guitar.
And trust me, you can’t be a playboy without knowing music; girls love music more than anything especially early 20s era music legends like (RIP)KK, Shaan, (RIP)Zubeen Garg, Sonu Nigam and many more!
Hahaha, those were golden times… especially the after‑fest madness in OYOs.
Pure carnal chaos, pure nostalgia.
Jalli naaa… hahahaha
