No one spoke loudly after the gate awakened.

Even Ragnar, who normally laughed in the face of danger, stood unusually silent beneath the shadow of the massive black doors.

The gate towered between two mountains like something left behind by gods.Full novel: GOT Kingdom Building System — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Its surface was covered in ancient carvings—dragons, beasts, waves, stars, and strange symbols that glowed faintly beneath the cold mountain air.

The soldiers stood far behind Kaelen.

None dared step closer unless ordered.

They were brave men, trained soldiers of Kaelrith, but even they understood one thing clearly.

This was not an ordinary ruin.

And Kaelen was not an ordinary man.

He stood before the gate alone, his black sword at his waist and his cloak moving in the wind.

Behind him, Ragnar, Darian, and Kael Draven waited silently.

Not as equals.

As followers.

As men waiting for their ruler’s command.

Ragnar tightened his grip around his axe.

“My lord,” he said carefully, his voice lower than usual, “say the word, and I’ll have the men prepare ropes, hammers, and wedges.”

Kaelen did not turn.

“No.”

One word.

That was enough.

Ragnar immediately lowered his head.

“As you command.”

Darian’s eyes remained fixed on the forest behind them.

“My lord, the animals have gone silent.”

Kaelen’s gaze narrowed.

“I noticed.”

Kael Draven swallowed slightly as he looked at the glowing runes.

“The scouts are uneasy, my lord.

Some are saying the mountain is cursed.”

Kaelen finally turned his head slightly.

“Then tell them this.”

His voice was calm but carried authority.

“No man speaks of curses.

No man spreads fear.

No one approaches this gate without my permission.”

Kael immediately bowed.

“Yes, my lord.”

Kaelen looked back toward the ancient doors.

Only he understood the truth.

The others saw a mysterious ruin.

A terrifying gate.

A relic of some forgotten people.

But Kaelen knew far more.

This was connected to the civilization from one hundred thousand years ago.

The same civilization whose books now rested secretly in his possession.

The same civilization that had preserved dragon eggs, ancient weapons, and magical knowledge beyond anything known in Westeros.

And yet, even Kaelen did not know what slept behind these doors.

That was what made him cautious.

Not afraid.

Cautious.

A ruler did not gamble with the lives of his people.

He slowly raised his hand.

“Set camp two hundred paces back.

Double the guards.

No fires near the gate.”

Darian bowed once.

“It will be done.”

“Ragnar.”

The giant warrior straightened immediately.

“Yes, my lord.”

“Choose twenty of your strongest men.

They guard the inner perimeter.

If anyone tries to approach without my order, stop them.”

Ragnar grinned faintly.

“With pleasure.”

“Do not kill unless necessary.”

Ragnar’s grin faded slightly.

“…As you command.”

Kaelen then looked toward Kael Draven.

“Send scouts along both cliffs.

I want to know if this gate has side entrances, cracks, tunnels, anything.”

Kael placed a fist to his chest.

“Yes, my lord.”

Within moments, the entire camp moved according to Kaelen’s command.

No debate.

No argument.

No one questioned him.

That was the difference between a council hall and a battlefield.

In Kaelrith, Kaelen listened to advice.

But the final command was always his.

Night descended over the mountain valley.

The camp was quiet, but not peaceful.

Soldiers whispered around small controlled fires.

The direwolves growled occasionally toward the gate, their fur raised.

Even the horses and buffalo seemed restless.

Kaelen sat alone in his tent with a rough sketch of the gate spread before him.

The symbols drawn on the parchment were not perfect, but they were enough.

Enough for him to recognize patterns.

He opened one of the ancient books from his inventory and placed it beside the sketch. The source of this chapter is g.com.

The script matched.

Not completely, but close enough.

His suspicion became certainty.

“This gate belongs to them,” he whispered.

A civilization older than Valyria.

Older than the First Men.

Older than every kingdom in known history.

And somehow, its magic was still alive.

Kaelen’s fingers traced one symbol in the book.

A circle divided by flame and ice.

The same symbol carved at the center of the gate.

His eyes darkened.

“What did you seal here?”

A soft voice came from outside.

“My lord?”

It was Darian.

“Enter.”

The tent flap opened, and Darian stepped inside, bowing respectfully.

“The perimeter is secure.

Scouts found no side entrance.”

Kaelen closed the book calmly before Darian could see too much.

“Good.”

Darian remained silent for a moment.

Then he spoke carefully.

“My lord… permission to speak freely?”

Kaelen looked at him.

“Speak.”

“This place feels wrong.”

Kaelen leaned back slightly.

“Explain.”

Darian’s expression was serious.

“The forest avoids it.

The beasts avoid it.

Even the wind feels colder here.”

He paused.

“And the men feel it too.

They will obey, but they are afraid.”

Kaelen nodded slowly.

“Fear is acceptable.

Panic is not.”

“Yes, my lord.”

Kaelen stood and walked toward the tent entrance.

“Tell the men they are soldiers of Kaelrith.

They do not run from shadows.”

Darian bowed.

“I will.”

Kaelen looked toward the gate in the distance.

“But also tell them this—no one is to act brave and foolish.

I will not lose men because someone wanted to prove courage.”

Darian’s lips twitched slightly.

“You mean Ragnar.”

“I mean everyone.”

Darian bowed again.

“As you command.”

Near midnight, Kaelen left his tent alone.

No escort.

No torches.

Only moonlight and the cold blue glow of the gate guided him forward.

The guards noticed him immediately and lowered their heads.

None asked where he was going.

None dared.

Kaelen walked past them and approached the gate.

The closer he came, the stronger the sensation became.

Recognition.

The runes brightened slightly, as if waking from a long sleep.

Kaelen stopped before the massive doors.

He placed his palm against one glowing symbol.

At first, nothing happened.

Then he allowed mana to flow from his body.

Slowly.

Carefully.

The symbol flared.

Blue light spread across the gate like veins of fire.

The mountain trembled.

A deep sound rolled through the valley.

KRRRRRMMMMM…

Behind him, soldiers stiffened.

Weapons were raised.

But no one moved forward.

Kaelen had given his orders.

And his orders were law.

The gate shifted.

Only slightly.

A narrow opening appeared between the enormous black doors.

Freezing air burst outward, so cold that frost formed instantly across the stones near Kaelen’s boots.

Inside the gap, Kaelen saw blue light.

Not torchlight.

Not sunlight.

Magic.

A vast hall stretched beyond the doors.

Giant statues lined the darkness.

Crystals glowed along the walls.

And deep within— chains moved.

Massive chains.

Each one thicker than a tree trunk.

CLANG…

CLANG…

The sound echoed from somewhere far below.

Kaelen’s eyes sharpened.

Something was inside.

Something enormous.

Something sealed.

For the first time in years, Kaelen felt the weight of the unknown pressing down on him.

He withdrew his mana immediately.

The runes dimmed.

The gate groaned and slowly sealed shut again.

The cold wind vanished.

Silence returned.

Kaelen stood motionless for several seconds.

Then turned around.

Every soldier nearby had gone pale.

Ragnar stood at the inner perimeter, axe in hand, eyes wide—not with fear exactly, but with shock.

Kael Draven looked as though he had forgotten how to breathe.

Darian’s hand rested on his sword.

Kaelen’s voice cut through the silence.

“No one speaks of what happened here.”

Every man straightened.

“This gate is sealed by my order.”

He looked across the soldiers one by one.

“No one approaches it.

No one touches it.

No one attempts to open it.”

His tone became colder.

“Anyone who disobeys will answer to me personally.”

The men lowered their heads immediately.

“Yes, my lord!”

Ragnar stepped forward and bowed his head.

“My lord… what was inside?”

Kaelen looked at him calmly.

“Something not meant to be disturbed yet.”

Ragnar’s expression changed.

Even he understood the meaning.

Yet.

Not never.

Kaelen turned back toward the gate.

“We are not ready.”

No one argued.

Because when Kaelen said Kaelrith was not ready, it meant the matter was beyond ordinary strength.

At dawn, the expedition prepared to leave.

Kaelen gave clear commands.

A hidden marker would be placed far from the gate.

The location would be recorded only in his private map.

No common soldier would be told the route again.

A small rotating watch would be stationed miles away—not near the gate, but near the valley entrance—to ensure no wandering tribe or foolish explorer entered by accident.

Kael Draven approached and bowed.

“My lord, shall I mark this as forbidden territory?”

Kaelen looked toward the mountains.

“Yes.”

Darian asked quietly,

“And if people ask why?”

Kaelen answered without hesitation.

“Because their ruler said so.”

That ended the matter.

No explanations were needed.

No report was required.

Kaelen was the supreme authority of Kaelrith.

His word was enough.

Ragnar mounted his horse and glanced once more toward the gate.

“One day, we’re coming back, aren’t we?”

Kaelen’s eyes stayed fixed on the ancient doors.

“Yes.”

His voice was calm.

“But not as explorers.”

He turned his horse toward the south, toward the Village of Kaelrith.

“When we return, Kaelrith will come prepared.”

Behind him, the soldiers followed.

No one looked back for long.

The gate remained between the mountains, silent and watchful.

But Kaelen knew the truth.

It had awakened.

And somewhere deep beneath the mountain, something from the age before history now knew his presence.
