While Adrian was giving his vow, Lara was in deep thought.
Things were not adding up in her mind at all.
“It doesn’t make sense.”
“This is not what the novel was.”
“As far as I remember, Adrian, the character in the novel, was an unruly guy who got the position of CEO of Lawrence Group.”
“Due to some mishap or accident, he had his legs injured.”
“That incident made him extremely paranoid and apprehensive of everyone.”
“He only trusted his two friends and acted as a crippled person.”
“My character, Lara, was a prostitute and needed money desparately for medical expenses.”
“She even used to donate her plasma to earn money.”
“The mother, one day, faints and needs blood.
Concidentally, Lara was there at the hospital and was ready to sell her blood to them.”
“The hospital does a check and reveals that she was their daughter.”
“Then the couple adopts her and promises to remove all the debt for her if she marries Adrian instead of their daughter.”
“Only condition: no divorce allowed.”
“Lara agreed and went ahead to marry Adrian.”
“This is how the story was supposed to go, not like this.”
“Here, I have a proper job and entered the marriage with a better exchange.”
“And somehow, the one I am marring is someone I already knew.”
“Not just an acquaintance.
My ex-boyfriend!”
“What in the world is this novel plot going towards?”
“I don’t even know whether this novel’s plotline is going to try to fix it or it will not follow it at all.”
“Should I risk this?”
“I mean, I already broke up with him once.
I can definitely divorce him.”
“But what will I state it as?”
“I already know how obsessive he can be.
He won’t do anything or give me any reason to get a divorce.”
“But, unless…
the plot.”
“Yeah, a plot is an unpredictable thing in this universe.”
“Imagine Lara.
You did everything that a normal transmigrator would do, yet still you ended up marring the male lead of the novel, and not just that, you also dated him?
God!”
Suddenly she heard her name.
“Miss Lara Ravenwood?” The minister asked, getting her attention.
“Yes?” Lara asked.
“Do you take Adrian Lawrence for your lawful husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better, for worse, for richer, for poorer, in sickness and in health, until death do you part?” The minister asked again.
“I do,” Lara replied.
The minister nodded slowly and prayed, “With this, I declare this beautiful couple are married.
What God joins together, let no one put asunder.”
“May the bride and groom exchange their rings.”
Daniel took out a red velvet ring box from his suit pocket and opened it.
A romantic yellow-gold matching ring was in it.
The set featured intertwined vine-like bands, delicate diamond accents, flowing botanical curves, and an elegant handcrafted appearance.
The slender ring, which was meant for Lara, had sweeping, intertwined gold strands embellished with tiny diamonds.
While the wider wedding band was for Adrian and featured a sculptural braided-leaf pattern across its polished surface.
Lara looked at the rings and slowly felt the emotion that she had suppressed for the past year.
It was her dream wedding ring.
Lara looked at Adrian’s proud face.
“God, he is doing this on purpose.”
Lara cursed under her breath.
“I am.” Adrian leaned in and whispered it to her ears and put the ring on her finger.
“Why?” Lara asked.
“I thought we broke up and moved on.”
Lara took the wedding ring from the box and placed it into Adrian’s finger.
“The groom may kiss the bride,” the minister said.
Adrian lifted the veil and entered inside, letting the veil cover them.
He intertwined his fingers with Lara’s and pulled her close to him.
He placed his hand on her lower back, and their lips just met.
Lara wrapped her arms around Adrian’s neck for support.
Adrian looked at Lara’s emotional eyes.
They used to kiss like this during their one-year relationship.
Adrian brushed his lips on hers and said, “Open your lips, Lara.
Please.”
Lara hesitantly parted her lips for the kiss.
“Just a peck, please,” Lara begged.
Adrian turned his head and devoured her red-tinted lips.
His tongue slipped in and teased her so much that Lara felt weak on her knees.
She clung on Adrian to stabilise herself.
Adrian kissed her as if they were all alone in the chapel and not in the middle of a wedding.
The church gasped at the kiss.
Everyone blushed with envy and turned their heads away at their public display.
Even Lily had to turn her head away and fan her face.
Once Adrian finished kissing, he looked at Lara’s dazed expression and smirked with pride.
“Welcome back to my life, my wife.” He whispered in Lara’s ears and pecked on her cheeks.
