In the year 280 of Aegon’s Conquest
King’s Landing, Red Keep
Bedchamber of Viserys Targaryen
The young Targaryen prince was struggling violently in his dream.
His arms were bound by two barbarians as he knelt before a pot of molten gold.
A tall barbarian looked at him with a ferocious grin.
Then he lifted the pot, poured the liquid inside over his head, saying that this was the crown he wanted.
Viserys felt as if an invisible, massive hand was choking his throat, letting out a wheezing hiss, as if he could still feel the scalding, viscous, and terrifyingly golden liquid metal burning his scalp, melting his flesh, and devouring his skull.
The strong smell of burning and the sickening odor of his own burning flesh seemed to still linger deep in his nasal cavity.
The moment before he lost consciousness, a cold murmur rang in his ear:
“True Dragon…
fears no fire…”
The moment the voice fell, he snapped awake from his dream, his body springing up like a fish out of water, and then crashing heavily back onto the silk mattress soaked in cold sweat.
In the darkness, he gasped heavily, his chest heaving violently, every inhalation carrying the trembling of surviving a disaster.
The excruciating pain of being poured over with molten gold was so real that his fingers instinctively and convulsively grabbed at his face, until he touched the warm, intact skin, daring to confirm that it was only a dream.
However, before he could recover his wits, another completely different tremor originating from the depths of his soul struck fiercely.
“Boom!”
It was as if something had exploded in his mind.
Countless chaotic and fragmented images, knowledge, and emotions poured arrogantly into his tender mind like a breached torrent.
On one side was the memory of Viserys Targaryen, the king’s second son, a five-year-old boy with the blood of the True Dragon flowing in his veins.
And on the other side was the entire life experience of an adult man from a distant alien world named Alex.
Two completely different souls, two vastly different memories, were now wildly intertwining, colliding, and merging in the depths of his consciousness…
Viserys Targaryen…
that tragic extra known as ‘Beggar King’…
I actually transmigrated into him.
Although his current body had been reshaped through spatial transmigration, it was still the appearance of his original world, just a little smaller.
But this change could hardly be called good or bad; after all, the original protagonist of this world was that bastard of the dragon family and the wolf family, Jon Snow, and A Song of Ice and Fire precisely represented his bloodline.
He was also a massive cheat, able to be resurrected even after dying, and Daenerys fell in love with him the moment they met.
It was very speechless, and at the same time, he was also a massive hypocritical saint.
Daenerys had helped him so much, yet Jon still stabbed Daenerys to death with a sword.
The crucial point was that at that time, Cersei Lannister was acting too inhuman, and Daenerys was just venting the anger that had built up in her heart for a long time.
Moreover, when Daenerys was stabbed, she had already finished venting.
If you really couldn’t stand her, you could have driven her back to Essos.
After all, she loved him so much, everything could be negotiated, it was really speechless.
And in the end, Bran Stark actually became king, which was even more speechless.
What use was he besides rolling his eyes?
That riddle-maker was so exasperating.
But since he had already transmigrated, he definitely wouldn’t die as humiliatingly as in the original work.
What’s more, even the War of the Usurper hadn’t broken out yet.
But he also didn’t want to change the original plot right now, because he had no golden finger, and besides knowing the original plot, he had nothing else.
If Viserys told Aerys II or Rhaegar that he had awakened the dreamer talent and knew a war would happen in the future, asking them to strike first.
Leaving aside whether this “Mad King” father Aerys II and eldest brother Rhaegar would believe a 5-year-old brat like him, the key was that there were currently no dragons, and the ruling power of House Targaryen wasn’t that strong; they might not necessarily win.
Furthermore, the nickname “The Mad King” wasn’t given for nothing; any of his outrageous operations could bring about an even more unpredictable future.
Therefore, the most important thing for Viserys to do now was to prepare for the dozen or so years of exile in Essos in the future.
Living once more, it was impossible to keep wandering like in the original work after Ser Willem Darry died.
And Daenerys, since he had transmigrated, in the future he definitely wouldn’t let her marry Khal Drogo.
And since he was no longer the previous Viserys, he might as well let his current self follow the tradition of House Targaryen, and the same went for others.
Heh heh.
Another important reason why he didn’t want to change the original work before was because those characters in the original work wouldn’t be born for several more years.
If the plot was changed so that Lyanna Stark was not abducted by Rhaegar, then Robert Baratheon wouldn’t marry Cersei Lannister.
Also, if Viserys’s cheap dad, the “Mad King” Aerys II Targaryen hadn’t burned Brandon Stark to death, then Catelyn Tully wouldn’t marry Eddard Stark, and then Sansa Stark and Arya Stark wouldn’t exist, and then he would really cry to death.
After all, how could this crumbling, ragged dynasty, cheap dad, and silly eldest brother be as important as them?
After all, he was originally just a loser, having lived in vain for twenty-some years, accomplishing nothing, muddled day after day.
What’s more, the current Viserys wasn’t familiar with them, and wouldn’t be like transmigrators in other worlds who were orphans, recognizing fathers and big brothers upon seeing the original owner’s family, as if they had never felt familial affection, having emotional flutters every now and then.
Treating this or that as their reverse scale, as if the affection was deep as the sea.
He originally had a happy family; although he himself didn’t have much ability, the family lived in harmony.
Only he didn’t know what would happen after transmigration.
But he still had his eldest brother, so it should be fine.
For now, he could only think like that.
After all, who could have predicted that living in a rented room on the second floor would be struck by the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse into a different world?
Therefore, these few people of House Targaryen were completely strangers to him; sacrificing them didn’t matter, and laying a hand on Daenerys and the others wouldn’t bring any guilt.
Because he was not the real Viserys.
Moreover, their existence was purely a stumbling block on his path forward.
Once gone, Viserys could ascend the throne even more legally and compliantly.
Outside the window, the dawn of King’s Landing was approaching.
Viserys sat on the edge of the bed and began to ponder seriously.
He must both utilize his prophetic advantage and avoid alerting the enemy; he must both preserve his life and ensure that those beautiful “historical figures” were born on schedule.
This crumbling dynasty and these unfamiliar “family members” were not as important in his eyes as his own ambition and desire.
After all, in this cruel world, being able to live to the end and live comfortably was the true winner.
“True Dragon fears no fire…”
The morning light broke, shining into the bedchamber, stretching Viserys’s tiny figure very long.
A meticulously planned survival game had just begun.
