“We’ve already bought this much stuff.
That should be enough, right?” Kai looked helplessly at the two giant bags piled on the ground.
Good thing he had the foresight to buy the tools first.
Though honestly, he didn’t even need that many.
Thinking about it, Kai couldn’t help sighing at how absurdly powerful divine abilities were.
With just simple tools, or even his bare hands, he could now create all sorts of incredible inventions.
As expected, comedic characters usually ended up with ridiculously overpowered abilities.
“Mmm…” Nami tapped her lips thoughtfully and glanced at the bags.
“Yeah, I think that’s enough.”
“Alright, let’s go.”
Kai nodded casually, then stuffed both massive bags directly into his pocket.
Nami: ???
“Did you just pull off a magic trick?!”
“It’s just a spatial pocket.
Nothing special.” Kai waved it off calmly.
“I made some storage equipment for convenience.”
Nami immediately frowned and carefully checked their surroundings.
After confirming nobody nearby had noticed, she finally relaxed.
She stepped closer and lowered her voice.
“From now on, just tell people you’re a Devil Fruit user.”
“Otherwise, I’m worried someone might target you.”
If it were only his strange little gadgets, she wouldn’t think much of it.
But a storage item with its own space inside?
That was completely different.
Who knew how many greedy people would come after something like that?
“Don’t worry.” Kai smiled faintly.
“I already thought of a cover story.”
He’d simply claim he ate the Human-Human Fruit, Mythical Model: Inventor.
A fruit that allowed him to create all kinds of inventions, though most could only be used by himself.
Devil Fruits really were the perfect excuse for everything.
“Fair enough.” Nami nodded, then stretched lazily.
“Since that’s settled, let’s go buy a few more things.”
“Again?” Kai’s face instantly collapsed.
He regretted showing off already.
At that moment, a commotion erupted somewhere in the distance, drawing both of their attention.
“What’s going on?”
“Huh?
Isn’t that Usopp?” Nami pointed toward the crowd, where Usopp stood drenched in nervous sweat.
“What’s happening to him?”
Wait…
Was this some kind of duel?!
Watching the crowd escort Usopp toward the outskirts of town, Kai and Nami exchanged a glance.
“Let’s go see.”
Judging by the look on Usopp’s face, he absolutely did not want to be there.
“Do you think someone’s threatening him?” Nami’s expression darkened.
If that were true, she definitely wouldn’t let it slide.
Well…
She’d let Kai handle it.
The two quickly followed the crowd out of town until they reached an open field, the designated area for gun duels.
“You understand the rules, right?” Daddy Masterson glanced at Usopp.
“Walk ten paces with your backs turned.”
“After the count ends, both sides fire.”
“The first one to fall loses.”
Usopp swallowed hard.
The problem was…
He barely even knew how to use a flintlock pistol.
But at this point, he was already stuck riding the tiger.
There was no backing out now.
Seeing his terrified expression, Nami tugged on Kai’s sleeve.
“Hurry up and save him.”
She didn’t want to watch Usopp die in front of her.
“Relax.” Kai gently patted her shoulder, signaling her to stay calm.
Then he looked toward Daddy.
“That man doesn’t have any killing intent.”
He probably only wanted to teach Usopp a lesson.
As Daddy’s countdown continued, Usopp gritted his teeth and slowly stepped forward.
He was genuinely terrified.
After all, this wasn’t even his preferred weapon.
“Five!”
“Four!”
“Three!”
“Damn it!”
Usopp suddenly pulled a smoke bomb from his pocket and slammed it onto the ground.
Bang!
A thick cloud of smoke exploded outward, instantly swallowing his figure.
Inside the smoke, Usopp thought smugly:
Now there’s no way he can hit me.
Bang!
Even with Usopp hidden in the smoke, Daddy fired without hesitation.
The bullet struck the pistol in Usopp’s hand, knocking it clean to the ground.
He had almost died just now.
The surrounding spectators looked utterly disappointed.
“That’s it?”
“Kid, I thought you at least had the guts to fire.”
“What a waste of time.”
Usopp ignored them completely.
Why should he care what these people thought?
He just wanted to survive.
“Please spare me.” Usopp looked utterly sincere.
“I’m just some unknown pirate.”
“Even if you kill me, you won’t get any bounty money.”
Daddy stared at him silently.
Honestly, if this idiot hadn’t bullied his daughter earlier, he wouldn’t even have bothered stepping in.
Usopp was just a nobody.
After the crowd dispersed, Usopp finally noticed Kai and Nami standing nearby.
“You guys were here the whole time?!”
“Seriously, why didn’t you help me?!”
“Usopp,” Kai said calmly, “this was your duel as a man.”
“You wanted me to interfere?”
Usopp fell silent.
That was true.
A man’s duel wasn’t something others should interfere with.
But still…
“Kid, your name’s Usopp?” Daddy suddenly looked at him carefully.
After examining him closely, he realized the resemblance was unmistakable.
“Yeah.
Is something wrong?” Usopp forced himself to stand up straighter.
“Yasopp is your father, right?”
“You know my dad?” Usopp blinked in surprise.
“Something like that.” Daddy glanced toward a distant grave, his eyes filled with nostalgia.
“Back then, your father and I once had a duel of our own.”
“And I lost.”
“I lost to him completely.”
He then began telling them about the events of the past, especially how Yasopp had spared his life because of his daughter.
As he spoke, Daddy’s gaze toward his daughter softened more and more.
Truthfully…
He was grateful to Yasopp.
Otherwise, his daughter never would’ve grown up living such a happy life.
