Over the months, Aunt Abi took him to several historical sites.
Some muggle, some magical, some both.
He never got tired of experiencing the new world he was part of, enjoying the company of his aunt as she brought him with her to experience this world.
Aunt Abi tried to take him on a full day trip once a month, sometimes earlier, but one month at the latest.
They visited London, Kings Cross Station, Stonehenge, and many other places.
Some significant, others just a fun historical and geographical context.
With his other lessons, he got to read more advanced books, even started reading A History of Magic by Bathilda Bagshot alongside his last birthday gift from Mr.
Craig, The Ministry Explained: A Plain Guide to Magical Governance.
He took notes while reading, getting better at writing, making the text look readable until he got approval from his mum.
Early in the morning, a nice quiet December morning, Kieran sat outside in his meditation spot under its roof.
He had a thick jacket on, his black gloves that matched his hair, his rainbow scarf wrapped around his neck, finishing the look with his silver monocle covering one of his blue eyes.
He watched the falling snow in front of him.
The pure white snow covering the entire garden in its splendour, making Kieran relax and enjoy the beauty of the middle of December.
His dad, who would usually be at work at this time, was still at home, preparing for a very special workday.
His company was trying a ‘Bring your child to work day’.
Kieran was looking forward to seeing his dad in his element, he had seen where his dad worked from a distance through grocery shopping with his mum, but never from the inside.
He was looking forward to it.
Kieran got up and stretched, then headed inside to his dad and mum, his mum doing some mild cleaning after the breakfast, his dad in his suit and tie work clothes.
When Kieran entered the warm kitchen he looked around at the various Christmas decorations, seeing several paper hearts made by him, which made him smile warmly.
His dad seemed to notice him, “You ready for an exciting day with your dad, son?”
Kieran smiled and nodded, “Yes! When are we leaving dad?”
“I just need to…there we go,” his dad said, as he slipped on his last shoe.
They headed outside and Kieran sat on the passenger seat and waved to his mum as they drove away.
…
Hector parked at his usual spot, looking up at the 10-story building of his workplace.
While the company he worked at dealt largely with large scale construction all over the British Isles, it was big enough to need a lot of office space for handling their contracts, their support, their sales, and everything else a good company needed.
Although he would never admit it, despite his wife teasing him with it when they woke up; he was nervous about bringing his son to his work.
What if Kieran finds my work boring?
Or even worse, what if he finds ME boring?!
It was with some trepidation that he brought his son with him to the entrance.
His son always got endlessly fascinated by magic, but this was far from magic, his company was as muggle as it got.
Hector couldn’t help but reflect over him starting to use the word muggle a lot when talking or thinking about his wife and himself.
It just felt wrong to call themselves normal, because that would mean Abi and Kieran weren’t normal, which they were, they just had magic.
Therefore, Hector started consciously using the word muggle about himself, same with Victoria.
He and Kieran walked up to the receptionist.
“Good morning Mr. Gray,” she said with a smile, before glancing down to Kieran and smiling.
“And good morning to you too Mr. Gray.” The source of this chapter is g.com.
Hector gave a faint smile to the receptionist once he spotted his son’s bright smile when being called the same as his dad.
“Good morning to you too, Janice. Busy morning with the extra colleagues today?” he asked after Kieran finished greeting Janice, calling her Miss Janice.
His son was so polite.
“Busy but exciting, it sure livens up to the place having so many young ones around,” Janice said with a pep in her voice.
Bringing Kieran to the elevator, Hector pressed the button for the eight floor, to his office area.
When they stepped out of the elevator, he saw that his colleague and fellow project manager, Anton Grode was there with his 11-year-old daughter.
If he recalled correctly, his daughter was named Ellie.
Anton loved talking about her when they were working, but Hector couldn’t really throw stones, he did the same regarding Kieran.
Hector watched as Anton noticed them and saw the double take Anton took, which made him internally chuckle.
People tended to have that reaction to the silver monocle and rainbow scarf that Kieran enjoyed wearing.
At least his son didn’t make his entire outfit rainbow like his aunt, he could get away with it too due to being so young.
“Hector! So good to see you, let me do the introductions!” Anton excitedly gave his daughter a side hug, Hector noticed the faint embarrassment on Ellies face, he gave her an understanding glance.
Having a boisterous father like Anton could be rough for a young girl.
Anton seemingly doesn’t notice his daughters embarrassed state, as he continued, “This beautiful, lovely, talented, precious and happy young lady is my pride and joy, the one and only, Ellie Grode!”
Each addition to the introduction made Ellie’s cheeks redder, so Hector decided to save her.
“Lovely to meet you Ellie, as you have likely guessed, I am Hector, your dad’s friend and colleague,” he grabbed Kieran around the shoulders, seeing his son paying very close attention to Ellie for some reason.
“This is my son; he is soon turning 7 years old. His name is Kieran Gray, he may be young, but don’t let him fool you, he is sharp as a tick this one.” The two kids greeted each other normally, and when they were used to each other, Hector glanced at Anton and tilted his head to the side, with Anton nodding.
“Kids, how about you hang out in our shared office for the first ten minutes? Anton and I need to finish a call, and once we are done, you will accompany us the rest of the day!” Hector proposed.
Hector led them to a private room, while Anton and Hector went to take the call with their current client, he glanced back at his son.
I wonder why Kieran paid such close attention to Ellie?
…
That girl is definitely a witch.
Kieran looked across from him at the young girl, she had her father’s brown hair and green eyes.
He at first thought he saw wrong, but when Mr.
Grode hugged his daughter, just for a moment, Kieran saw a wand in her inner jacket pocket.
She likely could not use it, but since she was 11 years old, it should be new, so she likely enjoyed having it around, especially if she started on Hogwarts back in September.
Kieran decided to avoid beating around the bush, especially since they were alone.
“Nice to meet you Miss Grode. Congratulations on starting in your new school, which house did you end up in?”
“Gryffind-” she slammed her hand against her mouth to stop herself from talking as her eyes widened and she stared frozen at Kieran.
She took a step back and looked at him incredulously, then hissed at him while glancing around in a panic “You….you….you can’t just say such things out loud!” She winced, “I..I mean I don’t know what you are talking about…”
Kieran watched her hide her face with her hands while groaning and decided to show some mercy.
“I spotted your wand; it was simple deduction that you started at Hogwarts in September. Don’t worry, I am a wizard too,” he smiled innocently at her.
He saw the small glare she gave him, likely realizing he basically pranked her.
“Your dad did say you were sharp…” she sighed and crossed her arms.
“Fine, I am in Gryffindor, and before you ask, my dad is not a wizard. My mum is, however. My mum was excited when I awoke my magic, but that was nothing compared to my dad…” she put on an exasperated face while shaking her head.
Kieran decided to return the favour.
“Both my parents are muggles; however, my aunt is a witch.” After the extra introduction, they chatted a bit more, mostly about magic and the books they had read, until their fathers came to bring them around their work.
As project manager, his dad was in charge of keeping the clients happy, while also securing outside contracts if they needed materials from other companies.
Kieran took extra care at noticing the way his dad carried himself at work.
He looked confident and capable.
When people spoke with his dad, they kept eye contact and listened sincerely when his dad spoke.
His dad was a natural leader, and he made those around him comfortable.
Kieran could definitely see a different side to his dad than the usual playful arrogance he brought to their chess matches.
His dad had a natural talent at reading people, reading their emotions and their body language, a trait Kieran hoped he could pick up too.
At lunch he saw the various ages of children eating with their parents, while Kieran ate with his dad, Mr.
Grode and Ellie.
When they eventually were driving home, his dad inevitably asked how the day was.
“It was great dad; your work was fun to see! You looked so important and everyone seemed to really like you, I hope I can be like you when I grow up!” Kieran felt as if his dad lost all tension in an instant, before looking very similar to Aunt Abi whenever she wanted to smile or cry but doesn’t want to show it.
Kieran just smiled at it, seeing clearly that Aunt Abi and his dad were truly like brother and sister.
When they returned home, and his dad debriefed his wife regarding their day, Kieran brought his mind back to Aunt Abi’s letter.
She requested he picked the next history lesson due to how good his grades had been.
Kieran had been interested in a very specific topic ever since his first chocolate frog card.
He got the card of Druidess Cliodne, famous for discovering the properties of moondew and was a known bird Animagus that also used sound magic to cure people from sickness.
He wanted the topic to be druids.
It was a topic that was never covered in the books of his former life, and he wanted to learn about foreign magical culture.
He was very curious about druids, their culture, their magic, where they originated and in what countries they were most active.
He wondered if they operated in nature or got nature specific spells.
After finishing the letter to Aunt Abi, he prepared another letter, this time to Mr.
Craig.
He read about basic spells, and remembered seeing the Sonorus incantation, the Amplification Charm, which caused your voice to be amplified.
It made him curious, if spells could amplify your voice, was the opposite extreme true?
Was it possible to lower the voice through a spell to the point that the sound could not be heard?
Which could make your voice operate on frequencies that produced no words but entirely wavelengths that provoked emotions into people.
What inspired this train of thought was Druidess Cliodne, her sound magic was capable of healing.
Kieran imagined using a spell that produced sounds not audible to the ears, which would make people unconsciously happy.
It made sense that if healing was possible, maybe emotional boosting was too?
He was however unsure if it was possible.
Mr.
Craig was the ideal person to ask.
He wrote the letter to Mr.
Craig using the finest writing he was capable of, the practice having made his handwriting become easy to read and still look somewhat pretty, at least according to his own opinion, his mum always said there was no perfection after all.
