The next morning, Song Ya didn’t wake up naturally—she was awakened by a loud knocking on the door.
When she went out, Zheng Yiming, Lin Nannan, and Liu Haowen were already standing at the doorway, while Elder Liu was outside.
Elder Liu was crying miserably, snot and tears streaming down her face as she wailed, “It must… it must have been you who killed my son! You threw my son down from the fifteenth floor! I want you to pay with your lives!”
When she saw Song Ya, the hatred in Elder Liu’s eyes grew even more vicious.
Because of the typhoon and the power outage, everyone in the building was bored. When they heard the commotion, they followed the noise and gathered around, standing at the stairwell to watch the drama unfold.
Lin Nannan couldn’t help rolling her eyes. “Auntie, don’t just throw accusations around.”
Elder Liu cried so hard she could barely catch her breath, clearly unwilling to accept that her son had died. She stepped forward, wanting to attack them, but Liu Haowen stopped her.
With Liu Haowen’s large frame blocking the way, Elder Liu couldn’t even get close.
Enraged, she pointed at Song Ya and said, “It must be you! You saw what I posted in the group chat, so you held a grudge and wanted revenge! You snuck into my house and killed my son!”
Well… her guess wasn’t wrong.
Originally, Song Ya should have dealt with Elder Liu as well, but the sudden shadow she saw last night had made her spare the old woman’s life.
“Do you have any evidence?” Song Ya asked with a smile.
Of course Elder Liu had none.
The entire neighborhood had lost power, and with no surveillance cameras working, she could only make guesses.
That morning when she woke up, she went to the living room to look for her son but couldn’t find him. She initially thought Huang Guolin had gone back to his room. Later, after searching the entire apartment and still finding no one, she noticed something strange by the window.
When she looked down from the window, she saw her son lying on the first floor below, his body already smashed beyond recognition by the hail.
After crying for a while, Elder Liu turned toward the crowd of onlookers and choked out,
“It must be you people! You snuck into my house to steal things, and when you saw my son there, you killed him! When the typhoon is over, I will definitely call the police! Anyone who sneaked into my house—I won’t let a single one of you go! You’ll all end up in jail!”
After hearing this, several people behind her exchanged uneasy glances, as if she had accidentally exposed something.
After ranting for a while, Elder Liu noticed that Song Ya had opened the anti-theft door and come out. She scrambled up from the ground and pointed toward their apartment.
“This woman still has plenty of food in her house! If you don’t believe me, go in and check right now!”
That single sentence immediately attracted everyone’s attention.
Some of the bolder people had already started eagerly stepping forward.
“In times like these, it’s a natural disaster,” someone said first. “We all live in the same building. We should help each other.”
As if on cue, the crowd immediately echoed the sentiment.
“Exactly. In a disaster like this, everyone should help each other. You can’t be so selfish—hoarding everything for yourself. Take it out and share it with everyone.”
“At worst, once the hail stops, we’ll pay you back double.”
While talking, several people gathered together and walked toward them.
Listening to their self-righteous words, Lin Nannan was so angry she laughed. Hands on her hips, she said, “Help each other? If you’re so kind, why don’t you take out all the food in your own homes and share it? Why are you preaching here?”
Choked by Lin Nannan’s retort, a few people looked embarrassed. Then someone said,
“We already ran out of food at home. If we had any, I’d definitely share it.”
“Heh.” Lin Nannan sneered.
Her sharp eyes swept across the crowd as she spoke mercilessly. “Didn’t you just say we should help each other? If you have nothing, then you’re just asking for things from others.”
“You—” Unable to win the argument, someone snapped angrily, “Let’s all rush in and take a look. We’ve all been hungry for so long, while they have food and drinks. That’s not fair.”
No one knew who started the commotion, but the crowd quickly grew excited.
The building had no electricity now. Even if they blatantly broke in and robbed the place, there would be no evidence—especially with so many people involved.
As if bewitched, people began stepping forward one after another, preparing to force their way in.
Just as they were about to act, Liu Haowen suddenly pulled out a baseball bat and held it horizontally in front of him, glaring fiercely at the eager crowd.
“I’d like to see who dares!”
Liu Haowen worked out regularly. The large muscles on his body were intimidating, and when he glared, he looked even more ferocious.
“What’s there to be afraid of? There are only four of them! Let’s just rush in and take it. There are more than ten of us!”
With that shout, desire finally overcame reason.
Several people rushed forward, trying to push their way inside.
Song Ya didn’t hold back.
She grabbed the nearest person, seized his wrist, and twisted it backward.
Crack!
The crisp sound of bone snapping rang out as his arm was broken instantly.
“AHHH!!”
A miserable scream echoed through the entire floor.
Lin Nannan and Liu Haowen were also strong. Dealing with these people was like beating up a bunch of chicks.
But the most surprising one was Zheng Yiming.
He looked gentle and refined, yet his attacks were unusually ruthless. He directly stepped on a man’s face with one foot.
The people who had just been encouraging everyone to rush forward were all beaten to the ground.
Naturally, those behind them didn’t dare step forward anymore.
Most of the people there had only come to watch the excitement. Their homes were running out of food, so they followed along hoping to get lucky. If they managed to break in, maybe they could grab a share.
But the four people in that apartment were simply too fierce—they were snapping arms without hesitation.
Who would dare go forward now?
Seeing the situation, some people immediately slipped away.
The few lying on the ground wailed in pain, but they didn’t dare stay any longer and limped away.
After dealing with those troublemakers, Song Ya’s gaze fell directly on Elder Liu.
A cold smile curved on her lips as she said word by word, “Elder Liu, I suggest you stop trying any tricks. Otherwise, you might not even know when you die.”
Seeing the bloodthirsty look in Song Ya’s eyes, Elder Liu shrank her neck in fear and quickly returned to her apartment.
It seemed she would have to go out again tonight.
Leaving Elder Liu alive here would sooner or later become a disaster.
After everything was settled, the four of them returned to the apartment.
Lin Nannan was still furious. She slapped the table and said, “This is outrageous! It’s only been a few days of typhoon, and they already wanted to break in and rob us! Is there no law anymore?”
Song Ya didn’t speak.
Yes—only a little more than ten days had passed, and the darkness of human nature had already been fully exposed.
In a few more days, people might even start committing murder and arson without hesitation.
