“Inspect?” Rhys finally managed to choke out, his knuckles gripping against the door frame. His voice sounded like paper, raspy, as if his vocal cords were trying to strangle the words before they could leave his mouth. “Vespera... it’s eight o’clock on a Friday night. You're crazy if you think I'm letting you in”
Vespera tilted her head fluidly, her elf-like cat ears twitching in mock innocence. She let out a rich laugh that set every nerve in Rhys’s body on high. Her tail flicked lazily, brushing against the doorframe like a predator marking its territory. "Mhmm?"
“Oh, I know, darling,” Vespera purred, stepping forward just enough to force Rhys to take an involuntary step back. She held up the unlabelled bottle of wine. “Work never sleeps when you manage high-end properties. I received a sudden, 'urgent' report of an ethereal leak around these houses here. A true anomaly, if you will. I simply couldn’t sleep without making sure my favorite property—and my favorite tenant—was completely secure.”
Her slitted amber eyes locked onto Rhys with a look of craven amusement, drinking in his terror like fine wine.
Lira stepped up beside Rhys, her tall frame taking up the space. Her midnight-blue hair shimmered with cosmic stardust, her posture radiating her authority as an interstellar deity effortlessly. She looked down at Vespera, her starlight eyes narrowing just slightly. A rare icy tension settled over her.
“An energy leak,” Lira stated. It wasn’t a question. Her voice was carrying that subtle tone that would even make planetary warlords take a step back. “I scan this entire neihborhood, the city even, every morning from orbit, Miss Vane. Our home is more than safe.”
“Of course it is, Astraea,” Vespera replied smoothly, completely unfazed by the cosmic force standing three feet away from her. She held out the bottle of wine, her manicured claws catching the light. “Consider it a...overly cautious landlord taking care of her investments. And as an apology for interrupting your evening, a 1942 rune-capped reserve. I brought it as a peace offering.”
Lira stared at the bottle, then at Vespera’s smug face. For an agonizing moment, the silence at the door was booming. Rhys could hear the quick hammering of his heart, convinced that his wife was about to incinerate the loan shark right there on the welcome mat. She's really just that crazy!, Rhys thought to himself.
Instead, a strange, tightened expression crossed Lira’s face—a begrudging flicker of politeness clashing with the subtle unspoken obligation.
“We are currently in the middle of a private dinner with members of the League,” Lira said, her voice stiff, oddly formal. “But... it would be barbaric to turn away our landlord after bringing such a rare vintage. Come in, Miss Vane. You may join us for the main course, we were just about to set the plates.”
Rhys’s breath hitched violently in his throat. What?! He stared at his wife, jaw-dropping to the floor. Lira hated uninvited guests. She guarded her private home with a fierce tenacity. Why on Earth was she letting this spotted viper slither right on through their door?
“How delightfully hospitable,” Vespera murmured, her tail curling into a satisfied hook as she glided past Rhys, her shoulder deliberately brushing against his chest. As she passed, she leaned in just close enough for her clove-scented breath to ghost against his ear. “Lead the way, Omen.”
The dinner party devolved into Mind-Games.
The dining room fell into a bewildered hush the moment Vespera walked in.
Marcus lowered his fork, his massive brow furrowing as he looked at the tabaxi-elf woman taking a seat directly across from Rhys. Soren’s high-elf eyes flicked over her, instantly detecting the faint magical aura of her binding contracts, while Valerie’s cybernetic eye whirred as it ran a military-grade background check on her face in an instant.
“Everyone, this is Vespera Vane,” Lira announced, taking her seat at the head of the table, her tone carrying mechanical politeness. “Our landlord. She was... inspecting the neighborhood.”
“Just ensuring the local hero class is taking good care of my marble countertops,” Vespera said with a dazzlingly wicked smile, setting her vintage wine on the table.
Rhys sat back down, his hands trembling so violently he had to hide them under the tablecloth. His mind was a chaotic storm. He sat rigid, chest banging with pain. He was forcing a fake, strained smile onto his face whenever Marcus or Valerie tried to make small talk.
And then, it started.
Under the grand dining table, Rhys felt something light and soft slide against his calf.
He froze.
Vespera was sitting directly opposite him, taking a slow sip of her water, looking completely innocent as she engaged Soren in a conversation about real estate taxes. But beneath the silk tablecloth, her bare foot had slipped out of her high heel. The smooth motion traced a hot arch as her foot slid up Rhys’s shin. Slowly, deliberately tracing the line of his pants until her toes lightly hooked over his knee.
Rhys’s entire body went stiff as a board. A cold sweat broke out across the back of his neck. The glide of her satin stocking made his skin shiver.
Stop it, he screamed mentally, staring dead set on his untouched plate of pasta, refusing to make eye contact with her.
Vespera didn’t stop. In fact, her slitted eyes gleamed sadisticly with delight. As she casually nodded along to Marcus talking about his latest orbital mission, her foot pressed firmer, sliding higher up Rhys’s inner thigh. The tip of her toes lightly grazed the heavy fabric covering his crotch. She noticed that his dick was getting hard.
Rhys let out a sharp gasp, jerking back slightly in his chair.
“Rhys, honey? Are you alright?” Lira asked, her voice cutting through the ambient chatter like a blade. She looked over at him from the head of the table, her brow furrowed in mild annoyance. “You look, flushed.”
“I’m—I’m fine!” Rhys squeaked, his voice pitching higher than he meant to. He grabbed his glass with a panicked grip, swallowing hard. “Just... hot in here. The oven was on all day.”
“Oh, it certainly is warm in here,” Vespera purred, her foot giving a firm, teasing squeeze against his inner thigh before slowly, agonizingly dragging her toes back up and down his tip. She turned her amber eyes toward Lira, her smile dripping with sweet venom. “Your husband is such a dedicated host, Astraea. Working so hard to keep everyone... satisfied.” She sped up her pace below.
Rhys felt like he was going to vomit. The shameless risk she was taking in a room filled with five of the universe’s most powerful beings was insane. She was playing Russian roulette with a loaded missile launcher, completely intoxicated by the absolute control she held over him. The feel of the sole of her foot rubbing up the length of his shaft.
Then came the “Accident”.
Vespera waited until the dessert plates were being cleared before she executed her next move.
As Soren reached across the table to hand Lira a glass, Vespera’s long, spotted tail whipped under the table suddenly with lightning-fast precision. It caught the stem of her full wine glass, tipping it cleanly over the side.
CRASH.
The heavy crystal glass shattered against the edge of the hardwood, sending a red splash of enchanted wine spilling across the white carpet and directly down the front of Vespera’s champagne dress.
“Oh! My goodness!” Vespera gasped, standing up instantly, placing a dramatic hand over her chest. The red liquid soaked into her dress, clinging to her body, highlighting every curve. “How utterly clumsy of me!”
Lira sighed, an exhausted, icy sound, reaching for a napkin. “It’s fine. Rhys, I can just—”
“Oh, no, please, don’t interrupt your conversation with the Supreme Sorcerer, Astraea,” Vespera cut in smoothly, her amber eyes flashing as she locked onto Rhys. She wiped at her dress helplessly with a delicate motion. “Rhys knows where the cleaning supplies in his house are. Would you mind helping me dab this off in the kitchen, Rhys? Before it sets into the silk?”
Rhys stared at her. He knew it was a trap. He knew with terrifying certainty that stepping into a private room with her right now was psychological suicide.
“I... I can just get a towel and bring it out here,” Rhys said quickly, his pulse pounding in his ears.
“Nonsense,” Vespera said, her voice dropping into a low, commanding register that carried that same unmistakable, magical weight of her binding contract. The invisible chains around Rhys’s soul tightened just enough to make his chest ache. “It’s a very delicate fabric. I need your skilled assistance, right now.”
Lira picked up her wine glass, waving a dismissive hand, already turning her attention back to Soren. “Go ahead, Rhys. Just take her to the island sink.”
Rhys stood up on trembling legs. “Right. This way.”
The Kitchen Ambush
The moment they crossed into the kitchen, the ambient noise of the dining room faded behind the sound-dampening architectural doors.
Rhys rushed over to the kitchen island, frantically grabbing a roll of paper towels and a damp cloth, his given power knocking against his ribs like a trapped bird. “Here. Take this and go into the guest bathroom—”
He didn’t even get to finish the sentence.
Vespera moved, striking like a shadowcat. Before Rhys could spin around, she grabbed him by the front of his shirt and slammed him back against the cold granite countertop. The paper towels tumbled out of his hands, rolling uselessly across the tile floor.
“Vespera, stop—” he hissed, panic choking his throat.
She didn’t stop. She stood between his legs, spreading them for her space. She pressed her soft body flush against his, her hands pinning his wrists down against the island countertop. Her pointed ears leaned forward, her leopard tail instantly wrapping tightly around his waist, locking him to her.
She leaned up and covered his mouth with hers, deeply desperate. The aggressive kiss going on for many seconds.
Rhys choked a muffled noise into her mouth, his body instinctively reacting before his mind could stop it. The forbidden heat of her, mixed with the sickening adrenaline of being caught thirty feet away from his wife, sent a violent shockwave of arousal straight to his loins. Her tongue slid past his lips, tasting of dark wine and clove smoke. She was claiming him with arrogant dominance.
When she finally pulled back, resting her forehead against his, both of them were breathing heavily. A thin string of saliva connected their lips in the dim light.
“Are you insane?!” Rhys whispered, his eyes darting toward the closed kitchen door in fear. He pulled violently against her grip, but without his old abilities, her feline strength held him fast. “My wife is in the next room! Marcus is in the next room! If they walk in here, if they sense your aura—”
“Let them,” Vespera purred wicked against his lips, her hand sliding down his chest, her sharp nails lightly digging through his shirt right over his heart. Her slitted amber eyes burned with absolute, twisted delight. “Do you have any idea how much hotter it makes this, Omen? Knowing you’re standing right here, smelling like me, tasting like me, while your precious little goddess sits out there playing host?”
“You promised... you said as long as I gave you what you wanted, you’d keep this quiet,” Rhys pleaded, his voice cracking with a sad mixture of dread and forced submission. “Please, Vespera. Don’t do this here.”
Vespera smiled, her white canines gleaming sharp in the low light. She reached down, her gloved fingers pressing firmly through his pants, chuckling darkly as she felt the rigid length of his dick, betraying his words.
“Look at you,” she whispered, her tail tightening possessively around his waist. “Terrified out of your mind... and completely hard for me.”
“Vespera, please—”
“I own you, Rhys,” she murmured, leaning in to bite softly on his lower lip, making him let out a muffled groan. “The house, your body, your little secret. You belong to me now. And if you want to keep your perfect little domestic fantasy alive...you'll give me taste right here, right now.”
She slid her hand up to frame his jaw, her thumb dragging over his bottom lip.
