As soon as that topic came up, both of them went quiet at the same time, like they’d agreed on it without saying a word.
That accident two years ago… you could call it a coincidence or not—kinda was, kinda wasn’t.
Zhou Zuizui thought about it, rubbing her ear a bit, regretting that cheeky tease she’d blurted out at Shen Nan… Teasing him was fine, but the problem was she’d dragged herself into this awkward mess too.
She turned her head, looking out at the scenery flashing by the window, watching the bar get farther and farther away…
————Two years ago, late at night.
The two had just stepped inside the house. The living room lights weren’t even on yet when Zhou Zuizui pushed Shen Nan right against the door, not caring about anything as she kissed him hard.
Shen Nan froze for a second, not reacting at first.
When he finally snapped out of it, he instinctively tried to push Zhou Zuizui away, but she was clinging tight—hands and legs all over him. And just when he was about to scold her, she looked up at him with those wet, teary eyes, asking pitifully: “Even you think I’m disgusting now?”
After saying that, she reached straight down…
Shen Nan’s eyes darkened. He just let her do whatever she wanted.
That night, both of them had drunk a bit.
He didn’t even know how it happened—just somehow went along with Zhou Zuizui’s lead.
The two kissed from the door… lips and tongues tangled, making out intensely.
Overstimulated by Zhou Zuizui, Shen Nan’s kisses turned rough and possessive.
From the doorway to the bedroom, clothes got tossed along the way, scattered lonely on the floor.
Zhou Zuizui hooked her arms around Shen Nan’s neck, backing up step by step toward the other side. She wasn’t backing down at all—biting and sucking on his lips, going back and forth with him, evenly matched, neither willing to lose.
Only when they were kissing so hard they could barely breathe did Zhou Zuizui open her mouth to bite him.
Shen Nan hissed in pain, about to let her go, but then this girl—like a little wild leopard—tilted her head up and kissed his Adam’s apple on purpose.
He couldn’t take it anymore.
Shen Nan grabbed her tight, threw her straight onto the bed…
……
“Zhou Zuizui, you asked for this.”
……………………..
She raised an eyebrow, looking all triumphant and provocative at Shen Nan: “Who asked for it? That’s still up in the air!”
…………..
What happened next got completely out of their control.
The temperature in the room slowly started heating up.
The lights were off, curtains half-drawn. Faint moonlight filtered in, just enough to make out the vague shadows of the two.
The night got deeper and deeper.
……
……
Just as she was lost in thought, the car suddenly stopped. A low male voice came by her ear: “What are you thinking about?”
He turned his head, staring at her with those deep eyes. When his gaze brushed her face, his voice dropped even lower: “Why’s your face so red?”
Zhou Zuizui snapped back to reality, pinching her slightly hot ear. She looked at the man beside her—sharp, rugged features—and sized him up from top to bottom. Her eyes landed on his bobbing Adam’s apple, and she licked her lips.
Gotta admit, Shen Nan was the kind of rugged guy… once you’d slept with him, it was hard to forget.
Thinking about it, Zhou Zuizui coughed lightly, glanced out the window: “We here?”
They’d gotten farther and farther from the bar—the car was now pulling into the neighborhood parking lot.
Shen Nan gave her a deep, intense look, unbuckled his seatbelt, and got out.
Zhou Zuizui raised an eyebrow, leaned against the car window looking at him, eyes full of mischief: “Captain Shen, why’d you stop asking?”
The more he tried to dodge, the more interested she got. Or maybe she just wanted something to distract herself. With Qiuqiu not around, the only person she could tease—and who wouldn’t get mad at her—was Shen Nan.
Shen Nan paused in his steps, ignoring her.
He knew damn well it wasn’t anything good she was thinking about.
The two walked into the elevator one after the other. Zhou Zuizui stood right next to Shen Nan. While he wasn’t paying attention, she poked his firm, muscled body with her finger—still rock-hard as always… When he looked over, she blinked innocently and flashed a naughty smile: “Not on purpose.”
Shen Nan watched her, tugged at the corner of his lip, and let out a soft hum of a laugh.
Not on purpose, sure—but definitely intentional. Follow the newest chapters on g.com.
Once inside the apartment, after changing into house shoes, Shen Nan headed straight to the kitchen. Zhou Zuizui watched and followed him in.
She trailed behind him, and the second he poured a glass of water, she snatched it and drank it down.
“…”
Shen Nan lifted his eyelids, giving her a cool look.
Zhou Zuizui grinned cheekily, handed the empty glass back to him, and said all serious-like: “Thanks for pouring the water, Captain Shen.”
Shen Nan looked at her—and couldn’t help laughing from being annoyed.
He looked down at the little woman standing beside him. Zhou Zuizui’s height was pretty good for a girl, but next to him, it was just average—they had a full twenty-centimeter difference. Plus, she was slim, which made her look even more petite and delicate compared to him. So skinny that Shen Nan felt like if he used just a bit of strength, he could snap her waist in half.
Thinking about that smooth, soft skin under her clothes, Shen Nan paused. His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down. He looked down, grabbed the glass from the side, poured himself another cup of cold water, and chugged it.
Zhou Zuizui watched from the side, finding it hilarious. Shen Nan was like that—no matter how much you teased or provoked him, he never got mad. He just let you mess around.
She stared at him for a bit, her eyes spinning with a new naughty idea.
After coming out of the kitchen, Zhou Zuizui shuffled in her slippers behind him. Just as Shen Nan was about to go into the bedroom, she grabbed his shirt.
“Got something to tell you.”
Shen Nan nodded, standing still: “Go ahead.”
“I’m heading out in a bit.”
Shen Nan paused, turning his head to glance at her.
Zhou Zuizui smiled, flipping her hair: “Remember Xia Wen? My friend.”
“Mm.”
Zhou Zuizui was a little surprised—this guy actually remembered.
“You’re not drinking with me tonight, so Xia Wen will.” She raised an eyebrow, looking all smug at him, her eyes full of mischief: “Don’t worry. If I get drunk this time, I absolutely won’t sleep with you.”
…
Shen Nan’s Adam’s apple bobbed again. He narrowed his eyes at Zhou Zuizui, grinding his teeth: “Zhou Zuizui!”
He was warning her.
Zhou Zuizui shrugged, not scared at all: “What?” She stood on her tiptoes, widening her eyes innocently at him: “Did I say something wrong?”
Shen Nan let out a hum of a laugh, opened the bedroom door, and walked straight in: “Remember what you said.”
Then, right in front of her, he shut the door.
Zhou Zuizui stared wide-eyed at the closed door, totally speechless.
Damn!
“Why’d you close the door?”
Shen Nan’s low voice came from inside: “Afraid you’ll sleep with me.”
Zhou Zuizui: “…”
She stood there, thinking about that line he’d just thrown back at her. The more she thought, the more she couldn’t help laughing.
That super low mood from earlier? It suddenly felt a few points better. She chuckled softly, turned, and went back to her own room on the side.
Ten minutes later, Zhou Zuizui came out wearing a different dress. Before heading out, she even knocked on the door next door on purpose and called out: “I’m leaving.”
Shen Nan came out of the bathroom and opened the door. He didn’t even get a chance to say a word before all he could see was her disappearing figure—that dazzlingly fair neck fully exposed. He stared at it, subconsciously narrowing his eyes.
As expected, the spot where Zhou Zuizui and Xia Wen agreed to meet was a bar again.
Both of them loved drinking and having fun—real party girls.
Zhou Zuizui’s personality had always been suppressed and locked down before. The reason she became good friends with Xia Wen was because she just couldn’t hold it in anymore.
Back in the day, Xia Wen really couldn’t stand the super polite and proper version of Zhou Zuizui. She always felt like this girl wasn’t living for real—her eyes had no emotion or warmth at all, yet she put on this act like “whatever you say, I’ll listen; I’ll do exactly what you want; I’m such a good girl…”
All that stuff.
In high school, the two couldn’t stand each other.
Then in university, somehow they ended up at the same school in the same class. That’s when they slowly got to know each other. Once they got close, Xia Wen didn’t hold back at all—she dug out Zhou Zuizui’s real side without mercy, totally collapsing her perfect image. Later, she finally understood why Zhou Zuizui acted so obedient and well-behaved: it was all forced on her.
Because of her upbringing and family pressure.
Xia Wen drove up downstairs. The second she saw the dress Zhou Zuizui was wearing, she let out a sleazy whistle: “Sis, looking fire!”
Zhou Zuizui had on a little black dress—strapless halter style. Her collarbones were delicate and gorgeous; when exposed like that, they had this subtle, unintentional sexiness. Plus, after two years of that easy life in the old town, her skin was fairer than snow. Every move she made was effortlessly alluring without her even realizing it. And with those sharp, stunning features, Xia Wen could bet… tonight, the brightest star in the bar would be Zhou Zuizui. Follow the newest chapters on novelping dot com.
It had been so long since she’d seen Zhou Zuizui like this. Felt kinda nostalgic, but also super familiar.
After getting in the car, Zhou Zuizui let out a soft hum of a laugh, took off the jacket she’d put on in the elevator, and looked at Xia Wen with crescent-moon eyes: “Miss me?”
“Of course.” Xia Wen drove off, saying: “I don’t miss anyone else—just the one who can hold the scene at the bar with me!”
Zhou Zuizui choked a bit, shooting her a sideways glare: “So my only job is to out-drink people?”
“Nah, of course not.” Xia Wen grinned: “It’s to drink with me.”
Both of them laughed. Even after not seeing each other for so long, there was no awkward distance between them.
“You coming out like this… your husband didn’t say anything?”
Zhou Zuizui paused, then smiled like a little temptress: “I told him.”
Xia Wen rubbed her chin, looking at that expression. She just knew Zhou Zuizui was up to some mischief. After thinking for a second, she couldn’t hold back and called her out: “Why do I feel like… you’re plotting something?”
Hearing that, Zhou Zuizui looked all innocent: “Me? No way. What am I plotting? I’m just a good, law-abiding citizen. What, you think I’m scheming against a national hero or something?”
Xia Wen choked, shooting her a glare: “Whether you’re scheming or not, you know damn well yourself.”
This girl can smile sweetly on the outside while setting up a whole trap full of sneaky tricks with that belly full of bad ideas. Xia Wen always felt like, around Zhou Zuizui, Shen Nan was just like a little fat sheep waiting for slaughter—one wrong move and he’d fall right into the net, getting completely devoured alive by this woman.
Zhou Zuizui just smiled without saying a word, her hand resting on the car window as she tilted her head to watch the night scenery outside.
The bar was buzzing with energy—the deafening music hit you right at the door, loud enough to scare some people away.
Xia Wen knew the place like the back of her hand and led her in. Before going inside, Zhou Zuizui raised an eyebrow in surprise: “This bar’s still open?”
It was the one they used to hang out at all the time.
“Of course! Business has been booming these past two years. Not long ago, some celebrity showed up here and gave it a huge free ad boost.”
Even more people started coming.
Zhou Zuizui curved her lips in a smile, nodding like she got it.
The two went in, found a spot to sit, and kicked off their bar nightlife.
…
When Lu Jiaxiu called, Shen Nan was just about to throw together something random to eat.
He picked up, said a couple words, then changed clothes, grabbed his car keys, and headed out.
Only when he got to the bar did Shen Nan subconsciously look up at the sign out front—still as familiar as ever, same name, nothing changed.
He looked down, said something to the staff at the door, and got led up to the second floor.
As soon as Shen Nan arrived, Lu Jiaxiu called out: “Brother Shen, over here.”
He glanced over—Lu Jiaxiu was sitting with Hu Yi. Looking at the two, Shen Nan actually smiled for once. The three greeted each other: “Long time no see.”
Shen Nan scanned around and asked: “Where’s Zhou Ran?”
The four of them had known each other since they were kids. Later, Shen Nan and Zhou Ran both joined the military one after the other. Lu Jiaxiu and Hu Yi went the businessman route, so they gradually lost touch. Zhou Ran was okay—he was a criminal detective, so they could still meet up sometimes. But Shen Nan was different… this guy disappeared to the border for two years; nobody saw him.
“On a mission, he’ll be late.” Lu Jiaxiu smiled at him, reached out and punched Shen Nan’s shoulder: “Finally back, huh.”
Shen Nan curved his lips in a smile, showing how he felt. He was pretty relaxed around them.
The three got together for food and drinks. From their private booth on the second floor, they had a perfect view of the main hall downstairs.
Shen Nan sat by the window edge, looking down and scanning the crowd below. When he spotted a familiar back, he pressed his tongue against the inside of his cheek and let out a soft hum.
Hu Yi and Lu Jiaxiu were still chatting away on the side: “You staying for good this time?”
Shen Nan hummed: “Depends on the missions.”
A lot of times, whether they stayed or left, where they ended up—it wasn’t up to them.
Lu Jiaxiu let out a soft scoff, raising an eyebrow: “If you wanna stay here…”
Before he could finish, Shen Nan suddenly stood up. Caught off guard, he just turned and walked out.
Lu Jiaxiu’s glass was still halfway to his mouth. He blinked, looking at Hu Yi: “What the hell’s he doing?”
Hu Yi shook his head, just as confused.
Suddenly, he looked downstairs, paused while pointing at the kinda blurry figure: “Isn’t that… Brother Shen’s wife?”
Lu Jiaxiu followed his gaze: “Yo, it really is. Getting prettier by the day.”
The two looked at each other, eyeing the guys crowding around Zhou Zuizui downstairs. Hu Yi made a bold guess: “Brother Shen’s going down to protect his wife?”
