Hogwarts’ Magical Food God

Hogwarts Animagus Chaos

That night the pain woke Lucas up several times.

It felt like shards of glass were stabbing outward through every broken bone.

He hissed through clenched teeth, his whole body shaking.

Madam Pomfrey checked on him once.

She said everything was perfectly normal and took the chance to scold him and Ellie again for their reckless stunt.

Ellie never came back to visit.

When sunlight finally spilled across his pillow and pulled him out of hazy dreams, Lucas opened his eyes, remembered exactly where he was, and replayed everything that had happened.

He felt light, refreshed—like he’d been reborn.

“Ha!”

He sprang up from the bed, hopped barefoot onto the floor, and patted himself down from head to toe.

Every part of his body felt exactly the same as before the crash.

This was real magic!

Grinning ear to ear, Lucas was about to push open the window and look outside when the hospital-wing door swung open.

“Mr.

McGregor, I believe your concussion has been fully healed,” Madam Pomfrey said, fixing him with a stern stare.

“If you don’t want to spend another day in here so I can keep an eye on that head of yours, I suggest you put on your clothes, trousers, and socks before you start gallivanting around.”

“Yes, ma’am!”

Bright sunlight poured in.

The red-haired boy smiled brilliantly.

Under Madam Pomfrey’s surprised gaze he stepped forward and wrapped her in a big, grateful hug.

“Thank you for healing me, Madam Pomfrey!

I’ve never felt better in my life.

You’re absolutely amazing!”

“Hmph.

Of course I am,” she replied, gently pushing him away, though the corners of her mouth lifted.

“Now get dressed.

I won’t say it a third time!”

…

Lucas’s original shirt and work pants had been ruined and thrown away.

His personal items sat neatly to one side.

He now wore a set of plain black wizard robes—secondhand but clean, smelling faintly of sunlight and fresh laundry, and fitting him perfectly.

He was still turning left and right, admiring how they looked, when Madam Pomfrey hurried him along.

“You’ll have plenty of time to play dress-up later.

Come on—Professor Dumbledore is waiting.”

Lucas quickly straightened the hem and followed her out of the hospital wing.

The spiral staircase was dim, lit only by flickering torches that cast dancing shadows.

They stepped through an archway and the space suddenly opened up.

Sunlight streamed in from tall windows on both sides of a wide corridor.

Lucas’s eyes caught a huge tapestry showing medieval wizards on broomsticks chasing a muddy stone.

The caption read: “Quidditch Origins – The Marsh Game of Stone-Throwing, circa 11th century.”

Next came a hallway lined with portraits.

Most of the figures were asleep.

One old wizard in a nightcap woke at their footsteps and grumbled, “Who’s making that racket?

Bloody hell, I was having a decent nap for once.”

Lucas was still trying to drink in the sight of living, talking paintings when the step beneath his feet jolted.

They had stepped onto a moving staircase.

It swung and glided past several corridors before stopping right in front of a gleaming suit of armor.

“Password?” a muffled voice demanded from inside the empty helmet.

Madam Pomfrey didn’t even look up.

“Stand aside, Perkins.

How many times must I tell you?

You are not a portrait guardian and you have no business asking for passwords!”

“Oh… right,” the armor muttered and stepped aside.

If he’d had the time, Lucas could have spent all day staring.

But Madam Pomfrey kept a brisk pace, so he had to jog to keep up, leaving the wonders that made his fingers itch behind him.

Wait for me.

Just wait until I start school… I’m coming!

Lucas shouted the words silently in his heart as they passed under a group of translucent ghosts chasing each other through the air.

Finally two enormous oak doors appeared ahead.

Madam Pomfrey rapped them with her wand.

They swung open with a deep boom, flooding them with bright sunlight and the fresh scent of grass and trees.

They stepped outside onto a wide, gently sloping lawn that stretched all the way to the distant edge of the Forbidden Forest.

Several people waited on the grass.

Professor Dumbledore stood at the front, his long silver hair and beard stirring lightly in the morning breeze.

Lucas’s eyes went straight to the giant figure beside him.

The man was nearly twice as tall and three times as wide as a normal person.

Wild black hair and a tangled beard hid most of his face, but his beetle-black eyes sparkled with excitement.

The giant was leaning down, talking animatedly to a sturdy middle-aged man, his booming voice rolling like thunder.

“…so its flame temperature has to be way higher than a Welsh Green’s, right?

They say a Hebridean Black’s fire can melt rock…”

The middle-aged man was a good bit shorter than the giant but still tall and powerfully built, solid as a block of basalt.

His face was all sharp angles, skin bronzed from years of wind, weather, and sea salt.

Lucas knew instantly who he was.

The man had the same strong, striking features as Ellie, and they both had the same golden-brown hair.

He had to be Ellie’s father.

His eyes were a deep Scottish green instead of Ellie’s bright violet.

While the giant kept talking nonstop, full of energy, Ellie’s dad watched him calmly and answered with short words now and then.

“Albus, I’ve brought Lucas,” Madam Pomfrey said briskly.

She gave Lucas a quick nod and headed back inside.

“Goodbye, Madam Pomfrey,” Lucas called.

She paused, glanced back, and shot him a warning glare.

“You’d better behave yourself.

Let’s not meet again in the hospital wing… if we can help it.”

Standing beside her father was Ellie.

She looked completely deflated, like a wilted flower.

When she heard Lucas’s voice she lifted her head and forced a small, tired smile.

“Morning, Lucas,” she said quietly.

Lucas noticed right away—her eyes were red and puffy, with dark circles underneath.

She looked exhausted and miserable.

“Morning, Ellie.” His brow furrowed.

“What’s wrong?”

Ellie just shook her head.

“Good morning, Lucas,” Dumbledore said with a warm smile.

“You seem to have recovered nicely.

Come, let me introduce you.

This is Rubeus Hagrid, Hogwarts’ Keeper of Keys and Grounds.”

He turned to the giant.

“Hagrid, perhaps you can continue your discussion about the tail-fin arrangement of Hebridean Blacks a little later…”

“Oh, hullo, Lucas!” Hagrid swung around and thrust out a massive hand the size of a dinner plate.

Lucas felt like his own hand had been swallowed by a big, warm leather couch.

“I heard all about it—you two rode a black dragon straight through a thunderstorm all the way to Hogwarts!

I’m dead jealous!

What was it like?

Were the scales all smooth like mirrors, or—?”

“Hagrid,” Dumbledore interrupted gently.

“We’ll have time for dragons later.

This is Alastair MacFusty, Ellie’s father and chieftain of the MacFusty clan.”

Alastair MacFusty looked at Lucas steadily and extended his hand.

“Hello, Mr.

MacFusty,” Lucas said, shaking it firmly.

The man’s hand was rough, powerful, and calloused—like gripping a weathered rock.

Alastair didn’t speak.

He simply stared at Lucas in silence.

The heavy quiet made the morning air on the lawn feel thicker.

It was slightly uncomfortable, but Lucas was more worried about something else.

“Ellie,” he pressed again, “what’s going on?

You look really down.”

Ellie flinched.

She glanced quickly at her father’s tense profile, then dropped her gaze again.

“It’s… it’s nothing…” she mumbled, voice thick with sadness.

Thank you!
