1991, Kent, England.

“Mord, you have to understand that your family background doesn’t determine your future.”

“And yes, your distant relatives Sirius Black and Bellatrix Black are still imprisoned in Azkaban.”

“But I believe you can become a good wizard.”

“Look at me. I’m preparing to take the Auror examination, aren’t I?”

Inside the dimly lit Black family manor, Nymphadora Tonks spoke earnestly to the young boy standing before her.

Her usually vibrant, shape-shifting hair had settled into a dull gray, revealing that she wasn’t in the best of moods.

Mord let out a helpless sigh.

“Cousin, do I really look like someone who wants to become a Dark Wizard?”

“The house has already been searched from top to bottom, and the Ministry of Magic confiscated every Dark Arts book years ago.”

Tonks chuckled awkwardly.

“Well… with a face as handsome as yours, it would certainly be a shame if you became a Dark Wizard.”

She studied the boy carefully.

His jet-black, slightly tousled hair framed an exceptionally handsome face.

His features were refined, his nose straight, and his dark peach-blossom eyes carried a mysterious melancholy that naturally drew people’s attention.

The legendary beauty of the Black family was perfectly reflected in Mord.

Although Tonks smiled while chatting with him, she remained extremely cautious inside.

She couldn’t be blamed.

Mord’s family history was simply too…

impressive.

Anyone who looked at his background would probably think the same thing:

It would be a miracle if he didn’t become a Dark Wizard.

Nearly ten years had passed since You-Know-Who’s disappearance, yet Death Eaters still appeared from time to time.

Naturally, the Ministry of Magic kept a close eye on anyone connected to the Black family.

With Mord about to begin his first year at Hogwarts, the Ministry decided to send someone to evaluate him beforehand.

Unfortunately…

No one wanted to visit the abandoned Black manor.

Everyone feared triggering some hidden Dark Magic trap left behind by his family.

After much discussion, they finally chose Tonks.

She had recently applied to become an Auror and happened to be distantly related to Mord.

Although they had never met before, they could at least be considered relatives.

“Cousin, don’t worry.”

“I promise I’ll become a good wizard.”

After hearing Mord repeatedly reassure her, Tonks finally relaxed and prepared to leave.

The moment the front door closed behind her…

The smile vanished from Mord’s face.

He rubbed his forehead helplessly.

Ding!

Congratulations!

You have successfully disguised yourself and deceived the Ministry of Magic’s inspection.

System Suggestion: Enroll at Hogwarts as soon as possible and begin your glorious journey toward becoming the Dark Lord!

“…Become your grandmother’s Dark Lord!”

Mord nearly exploded.

Only yesterday had he recovered the memories of his previous life.

Magic.

Hogwarts.

Dumbledore.

Harry Potter.

The moment those memories awakened, he immediately realized which world he had been reborn into.

In his previous life, he had watched the Harry Potter films several times.

He wasn’t a hardcore fan, but he certainly qualified as half a Potterhead.

Who wouldn’t dream of studying magic at Hogwarts?

The only problem…

He had been born into a distant branch of the House of Black.

And this particular branch had faithfully upheld every terrible family tradition imaginable.

Unlike the wealthy main family, they had split off generations ago.

After over a hundred years, they had accumulated almost nothing except a long list of disastrous decisions.

His mother had died while experimenting with a dangerous Dark Magic ritual.

His father had been an elite Death Eater who died in battle.

His grandfather had once followed Grindelwald, and even his cause of death remained unknown.

Calling them “heroes” would be absurd.

Calling them “notorious” was far more accurate.

Even before recovering his memories, the original Mord had secretly studied his mother’s unfinished Dark Magic experiments despite understanding almost nothing about them.

He truly possessed what could only be described as an innate Dark Wizard constitution.

Fortunately—or perhaps unfortunately—

One of those experiments had gone horribly wrong.

The resulting explosion left him unconscious, allowing the memories of his previous life to awaken.

As if that weren’t bad enough…

He also awakened a ridiculous Darkness System.

Every single day, it tried to push him toward becoming the next Dark Lord.

Mord snorted.

“Only an idiot would actually become a Dark Lord.”

“If I really went down that road…”

“Even someone as kind as Professor Dumbledore would never let me live.”

Fortunately, nothing irreversible had happened yet.

He still had plenty of time to change his future.

Of course, although the system had questionable intentions, power was still power.

In a dangerous world like this, strength was necessary.

He simply needed to use it carefully.

“System.”

“Open my status.”

A transparent panel immediately appeared before his eyes.

Dark Lord Candidate: Mord Black

Magic Level: First-Year Wizard

Magic: None

Recipes: None

Items: None

Followers: None

Darkness Points: 11

The interface was astonishingly simple.

Almost too simple.

For example, he obviously owned various belongings, yet the Items section remained completely empty.

The only thing he actually possessed was eleven Darkness Points.

Ten had been awarded when the system awakened.

The remaining point had just been earned after fooling the Ministry through Tonks.

According to the system, any action resembling the behavior of a Dark Lord would earn Darkness Points.

The problem was…

The system seemed determined to interpret everything he did as “evil.”

So you’re giving me points whether I want them or not?

What kind of tsundere system is this?

Mord decided not to think too deeply about it.

He had only awakened yesterday.

There would be plenty of time to study the system later.

Stretching lazily, he walked outside into the courtyard.

The manor wasn’t large.

Roughly a thousand square meters of neglected land surrounded the crumbling building.

Weeds covered nearly every corner.

The storage shed had collapsed long ago.

Only the three-story manor house remained standing, though many rooms now leaked whenever it rained.

After generations of recklessly pursuing Dark Magic, this pitiful estate and a few hundred Galleons were all that remained of the family’s inheritance.

Looking around, Mord silently strengthened his resolve.

Being a villain clearly doesn’t end well.

Just then—

“Meow.”

A silver-gray tabby cat gracefully landed on the stone wall.

Dark rings surrounded its eyes, making it appear as though it wore a pair of spectacles.

The moment he saw it, Mord smiled warmly.

“Good afternoon, Professor McGonagall.”

The cat leaped lightly from the wall.

Before touching the ground, its body transformed.

An elderly witch dressed in elegant emerald-green robes appeared before him.

Professor Minerva McGonagall adjusted her glasses.

“You recognized me, Mr. Black?”

Mord smiled politely.

“Who wouldn’t recognize Professor McGonagall?”

“You’re a master of Transfiguration and one of the few legally registered Animagi in Britain.”

McGonagall blinked in surprise.

At the same time, much of her concern disappeared.

The boy standing before her was courteous, calm, and elegant.

There wasn’t the slightest trace of the gloomy temperament she had expected.

Perhaps the Ministry had worried unnecessarily.

“Mr.

Black,” she said kindly, “since you have no guardians to accompany you, I’ve come to guide you through your Hogwarts enrollment.”

“However, I also need to escort another first-year student.”

“A Muggle-born witch is waiting for us at the Leaky Cauldron.”

Mord smiled brightly.

“Of course.”

“I’d be delighted to make a new friend.”

McGonagall nodded with satisfaction.

Dumbledore had deliberately arranged for her to bring Miss Granger along.

It was a small test to observe Mord’s attitude toward Muggle-born witches.

So far…

He had passed with flying colors.

“Very well.”

“Let’s head to the Leaky Cauldron.”

“Is your family’s Floo Network still operational?”

“Yes, Professor.”

“This way, please.”

Mord led her into the manor.

Beside the old fireplace sat a worn jar of Floo Powder.

McGonagall immediately noticed it was the cheapest variety available.

Combined with the manor’s condition, she realized the boy’s financial situation wasn’t ideal.

“If you’re having difficulty paying for school supplies,” she said gently, “please don’t hesitate to tell me.”

Mord smiled gratefully.

“Thank you, Professor.”

“But I still have enough savings.”

Besides the few hundred Galleons stored safely in Gringotts, he also carried one hundred Galleons with him.

Still…

He couldn’t help feeling touched.

Professor McGonagall might appear strict, but she was genuinely considerate.

Compared to his parents’ former Dark Wizard acquaintances…

The difference was like heaven and earth.

The two of them stepped into the fireplace, each taking a handful of Floo Powder.

This was Mord’s first time using the Floo Network since regaining his memories.

He scattered the powder into the flames and clearly announced,

“Leaky Cauldron.”

Green flames instantly erupted around him.

The world began spinning violently.

It felt as though he had been tossed into a giant washing machine.

Before he could recover—

The system suddenly chimed again.
