Mon3tr looked pitifully at Kal’tsit.
“Kal’tsit, please don’t chase me out to sleep… Okay? Okay?” Like an abandoned kitten, she kept mumbling by the bedside.
Kal’tsit’s temples throbbed from the noise.
“You have two choices.” She raised a finger.
“First, sleep on a makeshift bed on the floor inside the room.” Raising a second finger, she continued, “Second, I’ll take you back into the Memory Spirit Space.”
At the thought of that empty Memory Spirit Space, Mon3tr felt a chill run all over her body and quickly shouted, “The answer is option one! I’ll sleep on the floor!”
Kal’tsit casually tossed down a quilt, then turned over and lay down.
“Quiet.”
At 6:00 a.m.
the next day, Kal’tsit opened her eyes right on time.
Outside the window was still the vast starry sky, but she had long been accustomed to this routine.
Subconsciously, she stretched out her foot to reach for her slippers under the bed, but stepped on something soft.
“Hmm?” Kal’tsit lowered her head in confusion, only to find that her foot was landing squarely on Mon3tr’s face.
Fortunately, she pulled back her strength the moment she felt the unusual texture, preventing her from waking Mon3tr up.
She tiptoed to move her foot away, put on her slippers, and walked towards the wardrobe.
Opening the cabinet door, it was completely empty except for the white lab coat she usually wore.
After getting dressed, she turned and entered the bathroom.
The moment the sound of the bathroom door closing echoed, Mon3tr, who had been “sound asleep,” immediately opened her eyes.
She touched her stepped-on cheek, a flash of slyness crossing her emerald-green eyes.
At a time like this, pretending to be asleep was the best choice—it avoided awkwardness and kept Dr.
Kal’tsit in a good mood.
After all, as a Memory Spirit that had accompanied Kal’tsit for so many years, Mon3tr knew better than anyone: sometimes, appropriate “ignorance” was the best way to get along.
Mon3tr gently rubbed her stepped-on cheek, a smile unconsciously curving the corners of her mouth.
She scrambled up on tiptoes, her shadow form quietly floating outside the bathroom door.
“Kal’tsit~ Do you need me to help get a towel?” Mon3tr asked deliberately with an energetic voice.
The sound of water in the bathroom stopped abruptly.
“…No need.” Kal’tsit’s voice came through the door panel with a hint of helplessness, “You’d better stay away from the bathroom.”
“Fine, fine~” Mon3tr floated away feigning grievance, but accidentally knocked over the vase on the table when turning around.
“Mon3tr!”
The bathroom door swung open abruptly, and Kal’tsit rushed out wrapped in a bath towel, her silver hair still dripping water.
“Hehe, just an accident~” Mon3tr chuckled nervously as she put the vase back in its original place, “Doctor, go ahead and finish washing, I promise I won’t cause any trouble!”
Kal’tsit took a deep breath, and just as she was about to say something, she suddenly noticed Mon3tr’s gaze staring straight at her.
Only then did she realize she was only wrapped in a bath towel.
“Um…”
“Turn around!” Kal’tsit grabbed the bathrobe nearby and threw it over herself.
Mon3tr obediently turned around, but couldn’t help chuckling quietly.
“Dr. Kal’tsit looking shy is actually quite nice to see!”
“Say one more word, and you’ll sleep in the corridor tonight.”
“I was wrong!” Mon3tr immediately covered her mouth, but the amusement in her eyes couldn’t be hidden no matter what.
After Kal’tsit returned to the bathroom, Mon3tr briskly floated to the kitchen and began preparing breakfast.
She hummed an out-of-tune little ditty, her dark hair swaying gently with her movements.
“I have to make Kal’tsit happy today too~”
Humming a song while frying sunny-side-up eggs, Mon3tr suddenly heard footsteps behind her.
Without turning her head, she said, “Just wait another five minutes, Kal’tsit~”
“I’m not Kal’tsit.” Himeko’s voice came from behind.
“Looks like someone is in a great mood?”
Frightened so much that her spatula dropped, Mon3tr hurriedly turned around to see Himeko leaning against the door frame, her red hair casually draped over her shoulders.
“Miss Himeko! You’re up so early…”
Himeko walked into the kitchen, looking at the perfectly shaped fried eggs in the pan with great interest.
“I didn’t expect you to know how to cook?”
“Of course!” Mon3tr puffed out her chest proudly.
“I specifically studied Kal’tsit’s tastes! Low oil, low salt, protein fully cooked, bread toasted to…”
Her words stopped abruptly, because Kal’tsit was already standing at the kitchen doorway at some unknown point, wearing her white lab coat neatly, her silver hair still carrying a hint of moisture.
“K-Kal’tsit! Breakfast will be ready in a second!” Mon3tr flurriedly flipped the fried eggs in the pan.
Kal’tsit walked over to the dining table and sat down, her gaze sweeping over the prepared black tea on the table.
“Did you warm the cup before brewing the tea?”
“Warmed it, warmed it!” Mon3tr nodded hastily.
“The water temperature was also controlled between 50 and 60 degrees, and I took it out after steeping for three minutes!” New chapters come out on g.com first.
Himeko watched from the side, unable to hold back her laughter.
“The way you two get along is simply like a newlywed couple.”
“Pfft—” Mon3tr spat out a mouthful of black tea.
Kal’tsit calmly wiped away the water stains splashed on her lab coat.
“Miss Himeko, please don’t say things that are so easily misunderstood.”
“Exactly, exactly!” Mon3tr chimed in with a blushing face, while secretly glancing at Kal’tsit.
Were the doctor’s ear tips turning red again?
It must be her imagination…
right?
The three of them came to the Observation Car, and Himeko seemed exceptionally excited all the way.
After entering the carriage, Pom-Pom had been waiting there for a long time.
“The three Trailblazers-pa, your first Trailblaze journey is about to begin-pa!” Pom-Pom’s little paws waved excitedly.
Noticing Himeko’s abnormal state of high spirits, a trace of realization flashed through Mon3tr’s emerald-green eyes.
“Himeko has been so hyper all the way here, looks like she knew about this beforehand?”
Himeko nodded, her red hair swaying gently with the movement.
“Of course, this is our first Trailblaze journey after all.”
She turned to look at Kal’tsit, her amber eyes sparkling.
“What about you, Kal’tsit? Are you looking forward to it?”
Kal’tsit crossed her arms over her chest, her silver-white cat ears twitching slightly.
“There are many unknown things in this universe. We need to be extra careful; the Trailblaze journey won’t be plain sailing.”
Her voice was as calm as ever.
Himeko smoothed her red hair in confusion.
“Hmm… I don’t quite understand.”
Mon3tr immediately leaned over to explain, “Dr. Kal’tsit means that we know nothing about that planet, and we must remain vigilant no matter what people or things we encounter.”
She raised a finger.
“We might run into quite a bit of trouble on this trip, oh.”
Pom-Pom bounced around at the side to add, “But that’s the fun of the Trailblaze-pa! The unknown is what’s most exciting-pa!”
Kal’tsit looked at the unfamiliar planet gradually approaching outside the porthole, a flash of complex light crossing her light green eyes.
Mon3tr quietly floated to her side and said in a voice only the two of them could hear, “Rest assured, Kal’tsit, no matter what happens, I will protect you.”
Kal’tsit didn’t respond, but her tense shoulders seemed to relax slightly.
