Lux led Silver Wolf, traversing through various terrains of the Nether.
The red fungus trees of the Crimson Forest looked like huge lollipops, densely packed together, with weeping hyphae hanging under the caps, swaying gently with the wind.
When passing by, Silver Wolf reached out and pulled one, and the hyphae broke in two in her hand, oozing dark red juice.
“The color of this place is really vibrant.” Silver Wolf shook the juice off her hand.
“If there were Alexs Mobs, you would know how disgusting this place is.” Lux said without looking back.
“Alexs Mobs?
What is that?” Silver Wolf asked curiously.
“Nothing.”
…
Every few steps, Lux would stop, take out a piece of white wool from her inventory, and stack it in a conspicuous position.
Sometimes next to a fungus tree, sometimes on a rock wall, sometimes just in the middle of the road.
After watching for a while, Silver Wolf finally couldn’t help it.
“Are you marking the path?”
“Yes.” Lux stacked a piece of wool on a protruding netherrack, “To avoid not finding the way back later.”
“Can’t you build another portal?”
“The location of the portal is related to reality.” Lux clapped her hands and continued walking, “If I build another one, who knows where it will end up when I go back?
Won’t it explode if I fall into space?”
Silver Wolf looked back at the path—there was a white wool pillar every certain distance, which was particularly conspicuous in the dark red world, like a string of road signs.
“Quite thoughtful.” She said in a low voice.
“What did you say?” Lux’s ears twitched.
“Nothing.”
“I heard it, thanks for the compliment.”
“Tch.”
The two passed through the edge of the Crimson Forest, and a gray plain appeared ahead.
Blue flames were burning on the ground, looking like a dead, silent desert from a distance.
Soul Sand Valley.
In the game, this place was just annoying because of the slowness, and there were a few more Ghasts, nothing big.
But when she actually stood at the edge of the Soul Sand Valley, looking at the gray-white wasteland in front of her, a chill ran from the soles of her feet to the top of her head.
The Soul Sand on the ground was not ordinary sand.
Every grain of sand was trembling slightly, making a faint, almost inaudible wail.
It was like countless mouths whispering between the sand grains, the voices overlapping.
Lux’s ears twitched, and the sound pierced her eardrums like needles.
“What the hell is this place?” Silver Wolf frowned, obviously hearing the voice too.
“Soul Sand Valley.” Lux’s voice was lower than usual, and her tail had started to tuck between her legs unconsciously.
She squatted down and reached out to touch the Soul Sand on the ground.
The moment her fingertips touched the sand, a cold feeling spread throughout her body.
The sand flowed through her fingers, and the wailing sound suddenly amplified several times, as if something was crying in her ear, and as if something was reaching out from deep within the sand, trying to grab something.
Lux pulled her hand back abruptly, her tail puffed up into a ball of fur, and her ears were pressed tightly against her head.
“What’s wrong?” Silver Wolf leaned over.
“N-nothing.” Lux stood up and patted the sand off her hands, but the cold feeling still lingered on her fingertips.
She glanced at the gray-white wasteland in front of her and swallowed her saliva.
Do I really have to go through here?
The Soul Sand under her feet was still making that hair-raising sound, and she could even feel something wriggling deep in the sand.
Silver Wolf looked at Lux.
Her ears were pressed against her scalp, looking at her puffed-up tail and her slightly pale face.
Silver Wolf teased: “Scared?”
Lux’s ears twitched.
“Who, who is scared!” Her voice went up an octave, but it was clearly lacking confidence, “I just…
think it’s uncomfortable here.”
“That means you’re scared.”
“No!”
She reached out and grasped Lux’s wrist.
Lux was stunned.
Silver Wolf’s fingers were cool, her joints distinct, and the force on her wrist was neither heavy nor light, just enough to be felt.
“Let’s go.” Silver Wolf’s tone was very casual, as if she were saying the most normal thing, “I’ll hold you and walk.”
Lux’s eyes widened, her ears changed from pressing against her scalp to slightly erect, and a faint blush appeared on her face.
“Who, who wants you to hold—”
“Tsundere is out of fashion.” Silver Wolf interrupted her, the corners of her mouth slightly raised, and her gray pupils carried a hint of teasing.
“Who are you calling a tsundere?!”
Silver Wolf didn’t speak, just looked at her pointedly—looking at her puffed-up tail, her flushed face, and her wrist that was being held.
Lux opened her mouth, just about to lash out—
The Soul Sand under her feet suddenly shook.
A cold feeling spread from the soles of her feet, as if something was grabbing her ankle deep in the sand, pulling it down.
Lux’s face turned pale “swish”.
Her words were swallowed back, and her hand unconsciously gripped Silver Wolf’s hand tightly, her fingers tightening, her nails almost digging into the back of Silver Wolf’s hand.
Silver Wolf frowned slightly at being pinched, but didn’t say anything.
“Go.” Silver Wolf pulled her and took the first step.
Lux followed obediently, no longer being stubborn.
The Soul Sand made a “rustling” sound under her feet, and those wailing sounds still lingered in her ears.
Lux could only try to distract herself so she wouldn’t notice them.
Her gaze fell on Silver Wolf’s back.
The silvery-white spiral tail had a cold luster under the dark red light.
The hair was very fine, with a faint fragrance, like some kind of shampoo, fresh and clean.
Her neck was thin and white, with a few strands of broken hair sticking to it at the nape of her neck, making her skin look even fairer.
Lux’s gaze moved down, and she quickly pulled it back.
Her face flushed even more.
No, I can’t look.
But she couldn’t help but look again.
