Chen Zan still couldn’t calm down.
The doctor had no choice but to bring him to the general ward where Jiang Youwei had been transferred.
“You need to be mentally prepared,” the doctor said right before opening the door.
Chen Zan’s heart instantly shot up to his throat.
The door opened.
On the hospital bed sat a beautiful woman. Without makeup, her features looked even more delicate, pure to the extreme. The loose hospital gown couldn’t hide her graceful figure at all.
Hearing the door, Jiang Youwei turned her gaze. When she saw Chen Zan, she tilted her head slightly, her eyes soft and lively, and called out sweetly, “Husband.”
Chen Zan immediately understood what the doctor meant by “aftereffects.”
The moment he stepped closer, she wrapped her arms around his waist and leaned against his abdomen, acting spoiled, her tone full of affection, “Husband…”
Chen Zan’s face flushed, “Yo… Youwei, I’m not…”
She blinked her beautiful eyes and said, “You are my husband, right?”
Chen Zan found it impossible to say no.
“…Mm.”
Love didn’t disappear with time.
If anything, time only made it grow reckless.
At the doorway of the ward.
As Chen Zan received Jiang Youwei’s medical report, the doctor explained, “This lady likely hit her head during the accident, causing some internal bruising…”
After a detailed explanation, Chen Zan finally understood.
Jiang Youwei’s amnesia was different. Instead of losing memories, her mind had fabricated a new one out of thin air, a memory where he was her husband.
Chen Zan found it hard to believe.
Normally, people lose parts of their memory… how could someone gain entirely new ones?
The doctor continued, “She may have gone through something extremely painful, something so unbearable that her mind chose to alter her memories in order to survive after this accident.”
Then the doctor looked at him uncertainly and asked, “You are the patient’s… family member?”
Chen Zan looked toward Jiang Youwei, who was sitting on the bed, staring at him with hopeful eyes, then nodded.
“I am.”
He would always be Jiang Youwei’s family.
Xiao Nan, who had been standing outside the ward and hadn’t dared to come in, widened her eyes, “Y-you… you’re the CEO’s family member?!”
At that moment, she felt a cold gaze land on her. Xiao Nan slowly met Jiang Youwei’s eyes, “CEO Jiang…”
It was already 19:00 in the evening. Xiao Nan glanced at the time on her phone, still worried as she looked at her boss.
But since the CEO’s family member was here, it didn’t seem appropriate for her to stay and act like a glaring third wheel.
“O-okay, I’ll head back first. CEO Jiang, if you need anything, call me anytime.”
Jiang Youwei nodded.
After the door closed, only Chen Zan and Jiang Youwei remained.
“Husband…” Jiang Youwei blinked at him. The cold, distant demeanor she showed in front of subordinates had completely vanished. Now she sounded like a little girl acting spoiled toward someone she loved.
Chen Zan’s heart softened, though he still felt a bit uneasy, “What is it?”
It felt as if he had taken someone else’s place.
Seeing how obedient and endearing Jiang Youwei looked, Chen Zan’s fingers twitched slightly before he quietly pulled them back.
She leaned her head forward on her own, guiding his hand onto her head, then rubbed lightly against it, “I want to drink some water.”
“Okay, I’ll go get some warm water.”
Just as he picked up the kettle and turned to leave, his wrist was suddenly grabbed.
Jiang Youwei looked at him, pouting slightly in grievance, “No kiss before you go?”
