Being pointed at, Harry looked at Draco somewhat surprised, still not used to his popularity, but composed himself almost instantly and replied.
“Yes.”
Then his eyes fell upon the two mean looking boys, they were amongst the meanest looking kids he had ever seen, reminding him of Dudley and his friends.
“Oh, this is Crabbe and this is Goyle,” said the pale boy carelessly, noticing where Harry was looking.
“And my name’s Malfoy, Draco Malfoy.”
Ron gave a slight cough, which might have been hiding a snicker.
Draco Malfoy looked at him sharply, judging him from top to bottom.
“Think my name’s funny, do you? No need to ask who you are. My father told me all the Weasleys have red hair, freckles, and more children than they can afford.” Draco said smugly.
He turned back to Harry.
“You’ll soon find out some wizarding families are much better than others, Potter. You don’t want to go making friends with the wrong sort. I can help you there.”
He held out his hand to shake Harry’s, but Harry didn’t take it.
“I think I can tell who the wrong sort are for myself, thanks,” he said coolly.
While I was looking at them bicker, I could not help but find this scene funny, if the books were right…
Draco was really here just to make friends.
Pity, it went terribly wrong, and he stuck being a nuisance type villain for almost the entirety of the series.
Though, I guess the entire thing started from the sneer of Ron when Draco first introduced himself…
Ron was in the wrong to some extent.
Looking at Ron and Draco, Ron’s face was red from anger, while Draco’s face was slightly pink from the shame of being rejected, though he did hide it much better than Ron.
A very devious plan began forming in my head, a very very devious plan.
I could not help but smile just thinking about it.
Then Draco did not continue to talk with Ron and Harry, with his goal unsuccessful, his eyes turned towards Daphne.
“Daphne. What are you doing here? Already establishing connections with Potter? I though the Greengrass were too scared to choose sides.” Draco said with a sneer.
“Scared? Huh, it’s still better than some who wag their tails faithfully like dogs in front of their master, just to say they had been chained forcefully once he’s gone.” Daphne said with a smirk, she has grown enough to make me proud.
Then, without waiting for Draco to speak, Daphne continued, “And, for the record, I was in this compartment first, with my friend Damien. You are the only one trotting here with those little schemes of yours.” She huffed.
“You…” Draco gritted his teeth, but hearing Daphne’s sharp reply, he did not attack her, after all, to retain your image as the strong one, you must only attack the weak.
So, he looked at me, and said, “And you must be Damien, you seem awfully calm, not going to jump out for your friends?”
“Not really, after all, I would be pretty pissed myself if I just introduced myself and someone had the gal to snicker. And Daphne handled herself just fine without my help.” I said shrugging.
Hearing my words, Draco’s anger cooled somewhat, though he was still pissed about Daphne, hearing me agree to him about Ron was enough to please him, after all, no matter how much of a young master he was, in the end, he’s just a kid.
“Are you from outside Britain? You look like a pure-blood, but I am certain I have never seen you before.” Draco said as he checked my clothing.
“Pure-blood? No, though I am a part of the nobility, it’s muggle nobility, I am Muggle-born. Damien Whitmore, a pleasure. And considering you are from a wizarding family, could you please answer this, what’s the procedure for sorting houses of first years?” I asked with a smile.
Unexpectedly, Draco did not burst out calling me mudblood after hearing that I was a Muggle-born.
“A muggle noble?
Better than being a Weasley, I guess.” He shrugged, then continued, “As for the sorting, of course you just need to slay a horde of Acromantula.”
“Slaying a horde of Acromantula? I thought we needed to defeat an Auror!” Crabbe said aloud in surprise.
“Hey, the two of you shut up. Of course we need to slay Acromantulas, my father said so himself, he is one of the Governors of Hogwarts, of course he would know.” Draco scolded the two of them making them quiet.
And I just looked at the three of them quietly…
Is this really a wizarding tradition?
I mean the twins teasing Ron is understandable, but even Lucius Malfoy…
“Damien, don’t listen to them, we don’t need to fight anyone, we just have to steal dragon eggs, it’s not that hard.” Daphne whispered to me very seriously.
“Hey… Damien, do you really think that guy Draco is right?” Harry asked quietly.
“Entirely right? No. He might have said a bit too much, but Ron was wrong too. Imagine you introduce yourself and someone mocks you for that. So, I guess both are wrong, no need to take sides, is there?” I shrugged.
Hearing my words, Harry went quiet for a while, then nodded seriously.
He understood that Ron was in the wrong to start it, but he was also loyal.
But, Damien was his friend from before Ron, so he was conflicted.
In the end, he decided not to say anything, after all, unlike in the original work, Ron wasn’t the first and only friend he had made, and part of the reason the two of them became friends was because they met first.
Which actually was pretty common for male friendships, but mine and Daphne’s presence had divided his unilateral support for Ron.
And Harry was actually smarter than most might assume, Although it felt like he was reliant on Hermione for his studies, but it was not the case, even after being with Ron most of the time, who barely studied, and scored little marks, Harry had quite decent results.
So, there’s a high probability that if the first person he met was Hermione, he might be one of the top scorers.
Therefore, he definitely knew better than to support Ron in this scenario, even feeling slightly guilty because it was due to his actions that Malfoy targeted Daphne and me.
“And you Weasley, look, even Muggle-born wizards happen to have better manners than you do. Truly the shame of the Wizarding families.” Draco commented and closed the door behind him as he left, leaving Ron fuming once again.
