As soon as Huo Peiyan finished speaking, he shoved open the fire door with his long, knuckled hand.

In an instant, the door swung open, revealing a brightly lit corridor.

Doctors and nurses, along with the families of patients passing by, all turned to look at Huo Peiyan.Full novel: Huo Peiyan Promised to Marry Me, Then Left for His White Moonlight — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

He already had a face so handsome it was almost offensive, as if he’d won some kind of genetic lottery. Add to that the sharp, commanding aura of someone accustomed to being in charge, and he was impossible to ignore.

Now he also had a stunning beauty slung over his shoulder. Though her features were hidden, her figure and bearing alone were enough to leave people unable to look away.

Su Yuqing couldn’t break free, so she had no choice but to let Huo Peiyan carry her along.

Her ears felt as if they were burning bright red; her neck and face were scorching. At that moment, she wanted nothing more than to find a crack in the floor and disappear into it.

It was mortifying.

Fortunately, they were in a hospital. Everyone around them automatically assumed that his wife had suddenly fallen ill and her husband was so desperate to save her that he couldn’t even wait for the elevator, carrying her straight from the first floor to the eighth.

Looking at the man before them, his face neither flushed nor strained, his air utterly distinguished; then at the faint outline of his chest muscles and his lean, powerful forearms, they couldn’t help thinking that the Creator really was unfair.

Not only was the man handsome, he was perfect boyfriend material and made you feel completely safe—and he looked rich, too.

If you bowed in any direction to pray for a man like that, would Heaven send you one?

Huo Peiyan didn’t care in the slightest about the eyes on him.

He strode away on his long legs, dumped Su Yuqing into the passenger seat, then walked around to the other side.

He opened the car door briskly and bent to get in.

A clean, deep agarwood scent wafted over. Huo Peiyan turned his head to look at her.

Then he leaned toward her, his long arm reaching across Su Yuqing’s chest.

Their cheeks drew close, and their breaths mingled at once.

Su Yuqing instinctively shrank back, pressing her head against the car door.

Her long lashes trembled, and her fingertips clutched the handle tightly.

“What are you doing?”

Huo Peiyan didn’t answer. He leaned down slightly, pulled the seat belt across, and buckled it into the clasp at her side.

Then he sat upright, resting both hands on the steering wheel and tapping it lightly with his fingertips, his posture languid and casual.

Cool and unruffled, he looked ahead, pressed the accelerator, and turned the wheel in one fluid motion.

Beside him, Su Yuqing remembered how she’d just been acting as if she were facing a great enemy. A flush spread across her fair face, and her racing heart gradually settled.

The next second, she glared fiercely at Huo Peiyan again.

“What are you silently accusing me of now?”

Huo Peiyan held the steering wheel with one hand, his tone languid and almost flippant. “That you’re lusting after my good looks? That you’re still hung up on me not taking advantage of you? Disappointed and frustrated, turning love into hate?”

“……”

With every additional word he said, Su Yuqing wanted to beat him up one more time.

How could someone who seemed perfectly fine have a mouth like that?

Wasn’t he afraid people would laugh their heads off at the things he said?

How could anyone be so conceited?

Su Yuqing said crossly, “Thank goodness you’re a high-and-mighty CEO. I wouldn’t dare presume to reach for you.”

“Hah.” Huo Peiyan gave a cold laugh. “You wouldn’t dare reach for me? Your moral standards have gotten that high? That night, you threw yourself onto my bed and begged me to love you and marry you, didn’t you?”

The images of that night surged into Su Yuqing’s mind like a tide.

Her fingers curled inward, and a fine, dense ache spread through her heart.

So in his eyes, she had been that utterly pathetic. Even in bed, she had been the one begging him. What she’d thought was a love they shared had, in the end, been a one-woman show.

Su Yuqing closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to steady herself.

“If you hate me so much, why won’t you let me go? Do you enjoy making yourself miserable?”

Huo Peiyan’s eyes darkened.

A moment later, Su Yuqing heard him say, “Su Yuqing, since you were the one who got involved with me, I should be the one to decide when you leave.”

The speeding Bentley braked hard and stopped at the entrance to the villa.

Huo Peiyan got out, walked around to the other side, opened the door, bent down, and lifted her into his arms with an unmistakably forceful grip. Then he carried her inside.

“Young Master. Miss Su.”

When Nanny Wang saw them, she hurried over with a smile. At last, Young Master had brought Miss Su back!

She had seen how devoted Miss Su was to Young Master all these years. She was truly wholehearted in her love for him; there wasn’t another person in the world who would be better to him.

But all these years, Young Master had misunderstood Miss Su and treated her with such coldness. Nanny Wang had watched, worried sick, afraid the young couple would quarrel until they split up.

Where else was Young Master Huo ever going to find someone who loved him so much?

Nanny Wang had been worrying herself half to death.

“I’ll go make you some late-night food.”

“No need.”

Huo Peiyan said coldly, “Starting today, no one is allowed to leave the villa without my order.”

“Huh?” Nanny Wang didn’t understand at first and looked at him in surprise.

“Didn’t you hear me?”

“I did, I did.” Nanny Wang came to her senses, nodding so vigorously her head bobbed like a rattle drum.

Young Master Huo’s presence was too frightening. And these two didn’t look as if they’d made up at all.

Su Yuqing sat on the sofa, staring at Huo Peiyan without expression.

“If you’ve got what it takes, lock me up for the rest of my life.”

“Gladly. That’s exactly what I have in mind.” An invisible war of nerves spread between them.

Nanny Wang barely dared breathe. She was just about to sneak out when Huo Peiyan spoke.

“Nanny Wang, run her a bath.”

“Yes.”

Huo Peiyan left after saying that. In the end, it was Nanny Wang who helped Su Yuqing into the bathroom.

That night, Huo Peiyan did not return to the master bedroom.

“Miss Su, don’t be angry with Young Master. He loves you. We’ve all seen it over the years. If you just swallow your pride and apologize to him, I’m sure he won’t hold it against you.”

Nanny Wang set down a bowl of water and earnestly advised Su Yuqing, who was wearing a face mask.

“Nanny Wang, I know you’re worried about me, but please don’t get involved.”

“Our birth charts clash. We’re not suited to be a couple in this life.”

Nanny Wang opened her mouth, about to persuade her some more, but Su Yuqing waved her off. “I’m tired. I’m going to bed.”

Nanny Wang had no choice but to swallow her words, open the door, and step out. When she turned around, she nearly jumped in fright.

Huo Peiyan stood in the corridor, his face livid and hatred surging in his eyes. A fierce, cutting aura radiated from him. No one knew how long he’d been standing there.

“Young Master.”

Huo Peiyan had obviously heard everything.

Nanny Wang was so cautious she didn’t dare look up at him, keeping her eyes fixed on the floor.

For a long while, he said nothing.

When she finally looked up, she saw that Huo Peiyan had already left.

He casually tossed the sushi in his hand onto the dining table, strode away on his long legs, and left the villa without looking back.

Fine.

So she had a backbone.

She’d even said that their birth charts clashed, and that they could never be a couple in this life.

Then she could stay here and reflect on that.

Whenever she came to her senses, he’d let her out.
