After eating and drinking their fill, the three boys lay comfortably across the deck and gazed up at the bright moon of this world.

The nighttime sea breeze gently brushed their faces, carrying the salty scent of the ocean and leaving them completely relaxed.

“Kael, why does it feel like using Haki consumes my aura?”Full novel: HxH: Starting with a Contract, Gon goes to One Piece — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Gon had just attempted to activate Armament Haki and Nen simultaneously.

He felt that his aura had drained much faster than usual.

Killua immediately nodded in agreement.

“I felt the same thing.

When I covered my hand with Haki earlier, my aura clearly disappeared faster.”

Kael sat up, the moonlight casting a gentle glow across his face.

“Haki and Nen both originate from the life energy inside our bodies,” he explained with a smile.

“They may appear in different forms, but their foundations are the same—our physical strength and mental energy.”

“In other words, whether we use Haki or Nen, we’re consuming the same type of aura.”

He paused and looked at his two attentive companions.

“So when we use both systems at the same time, the consumption naturally multiplies.”

“It’s like normally carrying one bucket of water, then suddenly trying to carry two with the same hand.

Of course it feels more exhausting.”

“I see.”

Killua’s silver hair shimmered beneath the moonlight.

“So Haki isn’t consuming our Nen.

We’re simply using two different methods to draw from the same reserve.”

“Exactly.”

Kael nodded approvingly.

“Then do you know why combining the two powers makes our attacks stronger and our movements faster?”

Gon tilted his head and thought for a moment.

“Is it because the effects of both powers are added together?”

Killua considered it more deeply.

“I think combining them allows us to mobilize more aura at the same time.”

“Originally, we could only direct a portion of our aura toward attacking or defending.

Now we can activate two different power systems simultaneously, even though both consume the same aura.”

Kael nodded, then looked at Gon.

Gon still appeared completely lost.

Kael smiled and explained again.

“Let’s use a specific example.”

“Suppose our total aura reserves equal one hundred.

When we activate Ken, how much of that aura do you think we can actually bring out at once?”

Gon began counting on his fingers, but the abstract numbers clearly confused him. This chapter was taken from novelpin‌g.com without permission.

Killua seriously recalled the sensations he experienced during training.

“At my current level, when I use Ken at full strength, I can probably maintain around ten percent of my total aura.”

“I can continuously replace the aura being consumed, but I can’t gather even more aura to strengthen my defense beyond that limit.”

“Ten percent is already a respectable amount,” Kael said.

“We call that your Actual Aura Power, or AAP.”

“With continuous training, that proportion can rise further—to fifteen percent or even twenty percent.”

“But achieving that requires a very long period of intense training.”

Kael stood and paced across the deck, his shadow stretching beneath the moonlight.

“Haki happens to compensate for that limitation.”

“When we activate Armament Haki and Ken simultaneously, Armament Haki can mobilize ten percent of our aura, while Ken mobilizes another ten percent.”

“That means an attack that could originally release only ten percent of our strength can now reach twenty percent.”

“Of course, the aura consumption also doubles.”

By this point, Gon and Killua completely understood.

It was like two equally powerful fighters exchanging punches.

One could only strike normally with a single fist.

The other could use that same fist to release twice the force.

Naturally, the latter would possess an overwhelming advantage.

“Since you both understand, why don’t we start training now?”

An expectant light appeared in Kael’s eyes.

Gon immediately jumped to his feet.

“Sure!”

Killua was also eager to begin.

“We can’t sleep anyway.

We might as well make use of the time.”

Kael smiled and nodded.

“Good.

We’ll start by practicing how long we can maintain Ken.”

“Maintaining Ken?”

Gon and Killua looked at Kael in confusion.

“Imagine two people capable of producing attacks with the same power,” Kael explained seriously.

“One can maintain Ken for an hour, while the other can maintain it for only five minutes.”

“The first person might require only ten units of aura to produce that attack, while the second might consume twenty or even more.”

“So it’s basically endurance training,” Killua said, curling his lip.

He felt Kael was once again dressing up something simple with an explanation even a child could understand.

Kael smiled without taking offense.

“That’s one way to understand it.”

“Now, all three of us will activate Ken and see who can maintain it the longest.”

Gon immediately obeyed.

“We just maintain it like this without doing anything?”

“That’s right.

Focus entirely on keeping it stable.”

As Kael spoke, he activated his own Ken.

In an instant, an enormous amount of aura erupted from his body, forming a visible pressure beneath the moonlight.

Gon and Killua widened their eyes in shock.

“Kael, your aura is incredible!” Gon exclaimed.

Killua carefully sensed the aura Kael was releasing and silently estimated its quantity.

Kael’s Actual Aura Power was roughly six times greater than his own.

Kael maintained Ken and spoke calmly.

“To be precise, my total aura reserves are around sixty thousand.”

“But that isn’t something worth boasting about.

I’ve been training five years longer than both of you.”

After a brief pause, he continued explaining.

“Awakening Nen earlier isn’t necessarily better.”

“Take Killua’s family, for example.

They’re all Nen users, yet they waited until Killua was twelve before allowing him to formally learn Nen.”

“That’s because developing a Nen ability requires sufficient life experience and mental maturity.”

“People who awaken Nen too early often lack the necessary experience and emotional development.”

“As a result, they may encounter more difficulties during training and struggle to create truly powerful Nen abilities.”

Kael’s words were not baseless speculation.

The strength of a person’s aura was closely connected to their overall physical qualities and state of mind.

Neferpitou of the Chimera Ants was a perfect example.

From the moment of birth, Neferpitou possessed hundreds of thousands of units of aura, entirely because of an overwhelmingly powerful natural physique.

Of course, awakening Nen early was not entirely disadvantageous.

It allowed someone to begin building their foundations sooner and gradually accumulate larger aura reserves.

Kael was not worried about that problem.

As a transmigrator, he already possessed a mature mind.

His previous experiences walking along the boundary between life and death had also allowed him to possess far more aura than an ordinary person from the moment he awakened Nen.

Although he was only thirteen years old, his aura reserves were already comparable to those of some experienced Nen users.

Beneath the moonlight, the three boys remained on the deck with Ken activated, faint radiance surrounding each of their bodies.

After only three minutes, sweat began falling from Gon and Killua like rain.

Kael, in contrast, appeared completely unaffected.

He merely watched the two of them with an amused smile.
