Zhang Xiaofeng’s figure was already out of sight. Su Yuebai felt as if a knife had been stabbed into her heart, leaving her cold all over, trembling uncontrollably. She had fallen into a puddle, her entire body soaked, her hair drenched by the rain. She looked like a wounded kite that had crashed into the water, unable to get back up!

No one knew how long it took before she finally staggered to her feet. Amid the distant pointing and whispering of onlookers, she stumbled away, step by step.

Su Yuebai knew that her current misery and humiliation were entirely her own doing. What had she been thinking back then? What was going through her mind?!Full novel: I Already Severed Ties With Them. Who Would Bother With Them Now? — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

By the time she returned home in a daze, it was already late at night. She didn’t even know how she made it back. Her body felt like a soulless puppet, her eyes empty, completely numb. She had no appetite to eat, no strength to shower. She collapsed onto the floor and fell asleep just like that.

…

The next day, Zhang Xiaofeng took the bus to work. The whole morning was incredibly busy, but he enjoyed it. That was because he had earned the respect and admiration of many colleagues.

Here’s what happened: when he arrived, the tech department informed him that a team next door had run into a serious bug in their program. The entire team had racked their brains but couldn’t fix it. After reporting to Zhang Longfa, the latter assigned Zhang Xiaofeng to help out. In no time at all, he solved the issue. The project leader looked at the fixed code in shock, stared at him for a long while, then finally gave him a big thumbs-up and exclaimed, “Incredible! So code can actually be written like this!”

It was a game development program, and the problem was in the core code. Modifying even a single line would affect the entire structure. But Zhang Xiaofeng had seen this kind of issue countless times before. He was experienced and handled it with ease, leaving the others stunned.

He then went to another team, quickly spotting more problems in their code. Some even had major logic errors. He glanced over it, fixed everything effortlessly, and left the room quietly, gently closing the door behind him.

As the door shut, he heard shouts of amazement inside, “Damn! This guy’s a real pro!”

“No kidding! I heard the boss say he came from PD!”

“What?! No wonder! You think just anyone can get into PD Software Park?”

“You guys don’t even know yet, do you? He graduated from Qingbei!”

“Holy shit! That’s terrifying. No wonder he’s this good. Qingbei elites really are insane!”

…

Around eleven o’clock, Zhang Xiaofeng returned to his desk, relaxed as he sipped coffee. Soon it was noon—time to clock out.

Su Yuebai stood in front of him, two tear streaks still visible on her face. Clearly, she hadn’t slept well. When she saw him, she beamed brightly and said cheerfully, “Hubby, I spent all morning preparing a gift for you. Please accept it!”

She opened her hand, revealing what she’d brought.

Zhang Xiaofeng didn’t even want to look, but with a quick glance from the corner of his eye, he saw it was a Mercedes-Benz car key. So she had bought him a nice car!

Su Yuebai continued, “Hubby, I got you a top-end Mercedes S-Class. It’s parked right over there, look!” She pointed to the roadside nearby.

Zhang Xiaofeng felt utterly disgusted. Who the hell is your hubby?

He didn’t even look again, and said coldly, “Are you giving me charity? You wouldn’t even give me a lousy Lavida, and now you’re giving me a Mercedes? Is it under your name again? Screw you! You think this is funny? Huh?!”

Tears welled up again in Su Yuebai’s eyes and began to fall uncontrollably. Hearing Zhang Xiaofeng say that broke her heart—it was unbearable! This was all her parents’ fault, but still… she had gone along with it. She had been the knife in her parents’ hand, used to slice into his heart and shatter it!

Choking with sobs, Su Yuebai said, “No, no, it’s not like that this time. It’s not under my name yet. Come with me—we’ll get it registered under your name, okay?”

Zhang Xiaofeng laughed from anger. Now she wanted to put it under his name? Now she was buying him a luxury car? Where the hell was all this earlier?! He didn’t need it! He would rather die than spend a single cent of a rich girl’s money!

“I don’t need your charity! Take your fancy car and get lost!”

Su Yuebai’s face turned pale. Her heart was filled with sorrow.

Zhang Xiaofeng said coldly again, “Were you dead earlier?! Huh?!”

Her heart ached even more. Yeah, was she dead earlier? Her family could easily afford it, so why had they only bought him some cheap, crappy car? Why let him drive around and get sneered at by everyone?

“I’m sorry. I don’t know what I was thinking back then. Please don’t be mad, okay? Let’s go register the car together, alright, hubby?” Enjoying the story? Read on at g.com.

SMACK!

A loud slap landed hard across her face in front of everyone. Su Yuebai screamed, “Ah!” and blood spurted from her mouth!

Her lips were bleeding!

Stunned, she touched her swollen cheek, staring at Zhang Xiaofeng as she trembled and whispered, “Hubby… you…”

“To hell with your charity! I don’t need it! I, Zhang Xiaofeng, will never drive anything from your family. If I do, I’ll jump off a building and shatter into pieces!”

Gasp! Even the bystanders drew in cold breaths. That’s how resolute he was! Su Yuebai felt as if thunder struck her—her entire body trembled.

She understood. She finally understood. Her family hadn’t given him a decent car before. Now that she showed up again, he had too much pride to accept it—even if it meant death.

Sobbing, she pleaded, “Hubby… please don’t say that. It hurts so much to hear… I don’t want you to die. If you died, I’d be devastated. The baby would be heartbroken too…”

“Hilarious! You’d be sad if I died? Where the hell were you before?! Don’t fake sympathy in front of me. Get the hell out!” Zhang Xiaofeng turned and walked away.

“I’ll give you money, okay? Do you want money? Here, this is a check for 1 million yuan. Use it however you want!” Su Yuebai ran after him, stuffing a green check into his pocket. “Hubby, buy whatever car you want, alright? I won’t buy it—you can. Is that okay?”

Zhang Xiaofeng immediately pulled out the check and slapped it back into her face. His eyes were filled with fury as he roared, “Screw you!”

Su Yuebai was terrified! That look in his eyes—it was like he was about to explode! She shuddered violently, her body trembling in fear.

Zhang Xiaofeng didn’t want to waste another second on her. He turned and strode away.

Su Yuebai stared at his back until he boarded a bus and left. Her legs went weak, and she collapsed to the ground, covering her face as she burst into tears.
