Roar!
The Crimson Armored Lion let out a deep, thunderous roar. The sound was so loud it startled the nearby passersby. When Qian Susu saw the Crimson Armored Lion staring straight at her and Qin Yun, her face went pale.
Qin Yun frowned. What’s with this beast?
He had no idea what had triggered it, but he could clearly feel the Crimson Armored Lion locking its eyes on him and growling menacingly. Could it be the aura of the demon blood pill on him? That had to be it. Otherwise, it wouldn’t be staring at him so fiercely.
He had kept a few demon blood pills refined from low-tier demonic beasts on him, thinking they might be useful someday. He hadn’t expected that this Crimson Armored Lion would be drawn to them.
The beast bared its sharp fangs and took a step forward. Qian Susu was already too frightened to move. Qin Yun’s face turned grim. With his current cultivation level, he wasn’t a match for the Crimson Armored Lion. Using battle techniques would only hasten his death. The only thing he could rely on now was the Beast Taming Technique.
But could he really suppress it? He wasn’t sure. Still, he had no choice. He had to try.
Qin Yun activated the Beast Taming Technique, and a gleam flashed through his eyes. The roaring Crimson Armored Lion suddenly froze and slowly withdrew its ferocious expression.
At that moment, Qin Yun sensed a strange connection forming between him and the Crimson Armored Lion. Then, the beast lowered itself and pressed its head to the ground.
Did it work?
Qin Yun raised an eyebrow. He hadn’t expected it to actually work—especially on a high-level demonic beast like the Crimson Armored Lion. But the bond between them was weak, allowing only temporary control. If he pushed it too far, the beast might backlash.
Still, temporary control was enough. At least for now, he didn’t have to worry about being attacked.
“Was it you who disturbed the gate beast?” A cold voice came from inside. A middle-aged steward managing the Crimson Armored Lion walked out with a sullen face and glared at Qin Yun.
Noting the plain clothing Qin Yun and Qian Susu wore, he immediately judged them as commoners.
“This gate beast is under your management?” Qin Yun asked, pointing to the Crimson Armored Lion.
“I asked you a question, and you’re asking me back? Didn’t your elders teach you manners? Or were you born with parents but raised by none?” the steward said coldly.
“Whether my parents raised me or not is none of your business. If we’re talking about manners, you clearly lack them. You’re a steward of the Great Qian Academy, and we are guests. Yet you don’t even know how to show basic respect to guests, and you dare speak of manners?” Qin Yun retorted without backing down.
“Oh, so bold. You still dare talk back? Since your elders didn’t teach you properly, let me do it myself!” The steward pointed at Qin Yun and barked, “Get down on your knees right now and crawl over here. I’ll give you a proper lesson!”
“You think you’re qualified to discipline me in place of my elders?” Qin Yun instantly crossed several meters and appeared in front of the steward, slapping him hard across the face.
Slap!
The crisp sound rang out. The steward spun several times in mid-air before crashing to the ground. Half of his face had caved in, and three bloody teeth clattered to the floor. Read the latest chapters at g.com.
“You… You dare hit me… You’re dead!” The steward covered his mouth, his eyes filled with hatred as he struggled to get up.
Clap! Clap!
The steward clapped his hands several times. The Crimson Armored Lion suddenly rose to its feet. He planned to command the beast to devour Qin Yun and Qian Susu.
Behind him, Qian Susu trembled and quickly warned, “Brother Qin Yun, th-the demonic beast stood up!”
“Don’t be scared, Susu. It knows how to tell good from evil. Turn around and don’t look,” Qin Yun said.
Despite her fear, Qian Susu obediently turned her head away.
Roar!
The Crimson Armored Lion lunged forward—but not at Qin Yun. It pounced on the steward.
The steward let out a miserable scream before being swallowed whole in one bite.
At that moment, an elderly man in a blue robe flew over and arrived just in time to witness the scene. His expression darkened.
“You beast, how dare you kill someone here? Get back!” The blue-robed elder threw a golden rope, binding the Crimson Armored Lion.
The beast struggled a few times, but seeing no way to escape, it finally quieted down. The elder handed the rope to the other stewards and instructed them to take the beast back.
“You two, what’s your purpose here?” the blue-robed elder looked at Qin Yun and Qian Susu.
“We’re here to take the assessment,” Qin Yun said, handing over two assessment tokens.
“Royal assessment tokens…” The elder frowned slightly. Their clothes were plain—how could they possess royal assessment tokens?
He didn’t dwell on it, though. He simply said, “Follow me.”
Qin Yun led Qian Susu and followed him into the Great Qian Academy. The moment they stepped in, Qian Susu grew visibly excited. She had never imagined that one day, she’d get to enter the Great Qian Academy. Even though the assessment hadn’t started yet and she wasn’t sure if she’d pass, just stepping into the academy in her lifetime made it all worth it.
They arrived at the assessment courtyard.
“Steward Feng Xuan, these two hold royal assessment tokens. They’ve come to take the test,” the blue-robed elder reported to a silver-robed elder.
Feng Xuan gave them a casual glance and waved his hand. “Understood. Leave them to me.”
“Hand over the royal assessment tokens,” Feng Xuan said flatly.
Qin Yun passed him both tokens.
Feng Xuan verified them and nodded. “The tokens are valid. You may now begin the assessment—”
“Wait!” A group of guards in green armor rushed in.
“Captain Xue, why are you here with men?” Feng Xuan asked in surprise.
These guards were from the Great Qian Academy, but they were all trained and controlled by the Feng family.
“I just received a message. The person who killed the son of Marquis Feng is right here, so I brought men to apprehend him,” Captain Xue said urgently.
“The Marquis’s son is dead? Who did it?” Feng Xuan’s face turned grim.
“It was him,” Captain Xue said, pointing at Qin Yun.
Feng Xuan’s expression turned icy. He was a member of the Feng family, and the Marquis Feng was his brother. The one who died was his nephew.
Even if he was only a concubine-born son, he still carried the Feng family’s bloodline.
“You have some nerve to kill a member of the Feng family!” Feng Xuan glared at Qin Yun.
“He tried to kill me. What was I supposed to do? Just let him? He made the first move. If it were you, would you just sit and wait to die?” Qin Yun asked.
Feng Xuan said coldly, “Do you know who he was? A descendant of the Feng family. And you? Just a filthy commoner—how dare you compare yourself to him?”
“If he wanted to kill you, you should’ve been grateful. At least he only wanted your life and not your entire family.”
“Your death could have spared your whole family. You should be thanking him.”
Feng Xuan’s words made Qin Yun realize just how tyrannical the Feng family was. Being killed by them wasn’t just normal—it was something to be grateful for?
It was laughable.
“I should be grateful for being killed? Just because I’m a commoner and he’s a noble? I should thank him for only killing me and sparing my family and friends?”
Feng Xuan nodded. “Exactly. Because you’re a worthless commoner. The lives of your entire family aren’t worth as much as a single hair on my Feng family’s bastard son.”
To him, Qin Yun was nothing but an ant. For an ant to challenge those above was simply courting death.
“You killed a member of the Feng family. That means you must die!” Feng Xuan suddenly appeared in front of Qin Yun, his palm surging with powerful true qi as he struck toward Qin Yun’s forehead…
