I Can See Everyone's Status Window, So I Decided to Raise Heroes Instead

The first ever level up happened after a full month of bug killing, so that only enticed me to continue the job of slaying more insect all while protecting the villages crops all while acquiring the experience nessessary to reach another level up.

the number of villagers who were willing to hire me as their pest clearer increased as did my meager income, but every penny helped.

Even as weird as i was perceived to be the villagers were far from willing to stop my latest behaviour as it only benefitted them as the crops were free from being destoyed by these pests, all without having to spend a great sum or wasting all that time doing it themselves.

As i ran around taking on the various bugs that entered the fields i kept my eyes open looking for other things i could also slay like mice, or even rats.

They would surely be worth more than even a thousand bugs, quickly advancing me to the next level up!

Though i wasnt lucky enough to spot any of these, and so after an entire season passed, the increase on my panel was miniscule to say the least, but even so my profile was getting a little bit more filled out as a result.

[Nameless] Level 3 (5)

Job: Villager

After unlocking Strength and putting a point into Strength to boost my own strength i next invested a pair of points into Vitality and the Stamina located under that category.

The reason was simple, running around chasing bugs all the time wiped me out pretty quickly, so in order to maximize my 'training' time i purchased these two and that easily allowed me to race around and continue the hunt, and after six months i got those points back anyways so it all worked out in the end.

The other thing to note was that i gained an extra point as well during these months.

It happened in the middle of summer and the only thing i could figure out was a speculation of mine.

Where did the initial 5 points come from?

1 was no doubt for being Level 1.

And seeing how i earned another point for doing nothing, i assumed i'd get 1 point for each year i was alive, which meant i was now 5 years old, and getting one extra point for surviving this long.

The other thing i had been able to do over these months was learn more about this power of mine.

When i first tried to question the Mother and sisters about levels, they just told me that things like that were just apart of stories and not to worry, strength afterall comes in time with experience.

Then i tried again asking about Jobs, which they did provide me an answer on.

Jobs as it turned out were something given to us all as a gift from the Gods, and those jobs ranging from everything as common as villagers, or commoners, to the rare and elusive ones like Hero, Sage, and Saint.

But when i further pressed to ask how to find out what job one has, they simply smiled at me and said i'd have to wait until the coming of age ceremony, when a priest would reveal it to me.

But that just proved that Priests could see Job, but maybe levels was a hidden secret that the public wasnt supposed to know?

Well i wasnt about to break a hidden rule by revealing someones level now, but that didnt stop me from peeking at the people of the village to see if there was anyone really impressive living with us.

...

...

The village's levels were all over the place, but there were three common jobs among the majority with only our occasional villagers possessing other jobs, like lumberjack, carpenter, or blacksmith.

The visitors who came to the village at harvest time to purchase our crops, showed me a whole new set of jobs like Merchant, swordsman, spearman.

It seemed like there just might be an infinite number of jobs with each one having higher and lower ranks, but nothing actually showed just what these jobs actually did.

Perhaps having them would reveal something but simply seeing others holding those jobs didnt reveal anything to me.

Though just from seeing these fighters and the merchant i had a much better idea of what the stat distribution looked like for normaly non-combatant and combat fighters.

However something really puzzling also happened at this time.

Mainly ever single member of this merchant caravan, while being fairly high level was only using at most 1/3 of their total stat points, with a great sum simply sitting there waiting to be invested.

Which caused a new line of thought to occur.

Could no one else see this information like i could?

Or rather could only priest see it but again it was a hidden secret one they reserved for the nobility and their own church forces?

I tried to experiment a little and quickly found that not only could i see someone elses status, but i could also assign their earned stat points.

Starting off by simply investing a couple of points for one of my clients who is a farmer by boosting their tool mastery.

The following day, the guy flowed like an expert through the field, and by the time Harvest had come to an end, he'd not only completed the work in his own fields, but also gone to help others with their own.

He was being hailed like a great hero, having achieved a breakthrough and becoming an even better farmer than before.

But was the reaction really nessessary?

I mean it was only three points into tool mastery...

I tried it again on the village militia members, try not to stray from their own desires.

Points into spear, sword, shield.

And when it came to a training bout between the merchants guards, and the village militia members, the Guards became stunned to find that they were almost evenly matched by the villagers, save for having higher stamina, but their own weapon mastery had been encroached upon.

This would wind up having effects on the village that i didnt know at the time, but such was the cost of learning new things.

But since i knew i could invest on others behalfs i had this secret desire to not only become a hero myself but also to bring up the other orphans around me to became greats as well.

If we were all great, then the world would stop looking down on orphans, provide the sisters with more funding to feed us, or even better protection to prevent cases of illegal slavery or even abuse from occuring.

Idealistic thinking for sure but if i could make everyone a hero then the world would be better off for it, wouldnt it?
