While mother bear recovered her strength, Liam and Mike kept busy as well.
Liam handed Mike one of the guns he had taken from the dead gangsters.
“Know how to use it?”
Mike hesitated before accepting the gun.
Having a weapon made him feel safer, but it also raised another question.
“I do, but why was there a gun lying around in the forest?”
“Don’t worry about the little details.
You’ll find out soon enough.”
Liam then laid out the plan.
“This cave only has one entrance, and it’s narrow.
When that Skinwalker comes back, we’ll block the entrance and open fire.
From a position like this, even a Tyrannosaurus Rex would be dead.”
Mike nodded, raised the gun, and practiced aiming toward the cave entrance a few times, already thinking about getting revenge on the Skinwalker for what it had put him through.
Then Liam suddenly remembered something.
“By the way, didn’t you say those bags of white powder were in this cave too?”
Mike absentmindedly pointed toward a corner behind them.
“I think I saw them earlier, over by that pile of tools.
What do you think that bearded guy wanted with that stuff?”
“Maybe he thought it could be used as medicine.
Wait, no!”
“Awoo!
Awoo!”
Both of them turned toward mother bear.
Drool was running from the corners of her mouth, and her eyes had turned red.
She dropped onto her rear and began repeatedly banging her head against the wall.
Several familiar-looking bags lay beside her.
They were all empty.
“Liam, what do you think we should do here?”
Mike asked in a trembling voice.
Liam put a hand on Mike’s shoulder to stop him from backing away.
He never took his eyes off mother bear.
“Don’t make any sudden moves.
Let’s see what state she’s in first.”
Before long, mother bear seemed to adjust to the strange sensation.
She stopped banging her head against the wall.
Then she suddenly stood upright on her hind legs and began swaying from side to side, twisting her hips.
Mike stared at her in disbelief.
“How much did she eat?
She’s completely high.”
At that moment, the bear cub wandered over and looked curiously at its mother.
Its tiny mind clearly couldn’t make sense of such bizarre behavior.
mother bear, still thoroughly enjoying herself, noticed her cub approaching.
On a sudden impulse, she scooped it into her arms and began rubbing it vigorously.
“Awoo!”
The bear cub yelped under the enthusiastic mauling.
Then mother bear suddenly noticed the two humans standing nearby.
She dropped her cub and walked straight toward them.
“What does she want?”
She didn’t seem aggressive, but a brown bear was still a massive animal, and Mike couldn’t help feeling nervous. This chapter was taken from g.com without permission.
“Don’t worry.
She looks friendly.”
Liam answered calmly.
Sure enough, mother bear showed no intention of attacking.
She walked up, wrapped Liam in an equally enthusiastic hug, then stuck out her tongue and licked his entire head, covering him in slobber.
“Ha!
She really is friendly.”
Watching from the side, Mike couldn’t help laughing.
Liam didn’t seem particularly bothered.
He simply freed one hand and wiped the drool from his face.
Just as he was about to struggle out of her grip, mother bear suddenly let him go and froze.
“ROAR!”
She let out a deafening roar, spun around, and charged out of the cave.
Liam immediately understood.
“Come on.
She must have caught the Skinwalker’s scent.
She’s going after him for revenge.”
Their plan had been disrupted by a high brown bear, but the result might actually be even better.
With a full-grown brown bear fighting on their side, their chances against the Skinwalker could improve considerably.
Mike knew this wasn’t the time to hesitate and hurried after them.
Liam and Mike followed mother bear’s trail through the forest and soon came across signs of a brutal fight.
Broken branches.
Blood sprayed across the ground.
Mutilated bodies.
The gruesome sight made Mike’s face turn pale.
He kept dry-heaving, but he didn’t dare slow down.
After examining the scene carefully, Liam realized there were only two corpses.
That meant Mickey, the gangster with the afro, was somehow still alive.
Those gangsters had put up more of a fight than expected.
They had clearly managed to pressure the Skinwalker quite badly.
“Bang!
Bang!
Bang!”
A burst of gunfire sounded from ahead.
Mickey had begun his final struggle against the Skinwalker.
Hearing the shots, mother bear let out another furious roar and sped up.
By the time Liam and Mike reached the scene, the fight was almost over.
Mickey’s body was covered in claw wounds, and his left hand was gone.
He desperately shouted toward the surrounding trees.
“Come out, you coward!
Stop hiding!
Come take a bullet!”
The instant he finished speaking, the Skinwalker silently appeared behind him and tackled him to the ground.
“Crack!”
The sharp sound of breaking bones rang out.
mother bear immediately seized the opportunity and charged.
But once the Skinwalker stood up, it didn’t even look at her.
It simply turned and ran.
“He’s hurt.
Badly.
Go after him.”
Liam could clearly see more than a dozen bullet holes across the Skinwalker’s body.
None had struck a vital spot, but the wounds had still caused considerable blood loss.
The severe injuries had weakened the Skinwalker dramatically.
Its eerie speed was gone.
To conserve what strength it had left, it had even stopped using its claws and relied on its body weight to crush Mickey instead.
A bizarre chase began through the forest.
The Skinwalker ran in front.
mother bear chased behind it.
Liam and Mike followed at a distance.
Even among the dense trees, both beasts moved at terrifying speed, racing through the forest with ease.
Liam’s physical abilities were already beyond those of an ordinary person, yet even he could barely keep them in sight.
“Awoo!”
Just as he was about to lose them, mother bear let out a pained cry from somewhere ahead.
Not good!
Liam sprinted toward the sound.
The Skinwalker had tricked her.
It had doubled back and ambushed mother bear, leaving several deep wounds across her back and neck.
mother bear rolled across the ground to avoid the follow-up attacks, then spun around and lunged again.
The Skinwalker stopped conserving its strength.
The two beasts began savagely biting and clawing at each other.
Seeing this, Liam knew he couldn’t wait any longer.
mother bear had been abused for far too long and had almost no strength left.
Her current frenzy was nothing more than a final burst of energy.
She could collapse at any moment.
“Mike, keep up.
We’re shooting from close range.”
Liam turned around.
Mike was bent over, gasping for breath.
His legs were shaking, and he had completely run out of stamina.
Liam simply left him behind.
He rushed straight into the fight, pressed both handguns against the Skinwalker’s body, and fired several times.
“ROAR!”
Agony tore through the Skinwalker.
Those shots destroyed most of its internal organs.
It should have died on the spot.
Yet somehow, it found enough strength to shove mother bear aside and lunge at Liam with its jaws open.
Facing the Skinwalker’s final desperate attack, Liam didn’t dodge.
He raised both guns and met it head-on.
“Bang!
Bang!”
“Thud!”
After the shots rang out, the Skinwalker crashed directly onto Liam.
