The rain was torrential.

She didn’t know if it was tears or rain that dampened her cheeks.

Xu Qiaoqiao looked at the girl in front of her, her heart contracted sharply, a dull pain swept over her.Full novel: I Just Happened To Fall For You — read the rest free on NovelCodex.org

Slowly, she took a step forward.

Immediately, she squatted down and reached out her arms, tightly hugging Sweet.

Sweet began to cry with a “wa” sound.

Her small mouth wide, her tiny body hiccuping with sobs, a sight that softened any onlooker’s heart.

Yet Xu Qiaoqiao held her tight, “No.”

She slowly spoke: “Sweet, remember, everyone is an angel with broken wings.

Only when you love yourself can others love you.”

Sweet nodded amidst her tears.

Xu Qiaoqiao then took her into her arms, pulling her away from the edge of the roof.

The director and his group rushed forward when they saw what was happening, taking Sweet away from her.

Xu Mushen had followed Xu Qiaoqiao closely in his car.

His face was ashen, his hands clenching the steering wheel, his eyes swirling with building rage.

Even if she was the daughter of his adopted daughter, her current behavior was a disgrace to the Xu family!

They say true nature never changes, he had given her a chance last time, this time…

Xu Mushen lowered his eyes slightly, don’t blame him for being unsympathetic this time.

With that thought, he looked up and saw the taxi parked in front of the orphanage.

He was slightly surprised, realizing then that he had misunderstood her.

After a pause outside, he decided to drive over anyway.

He took the spare umbrella from the car, held it up, and walked inside.

As soon as he entered the orphanage, he saw the small silhouette atop the roof.

He stood there, watching as Qiaoqiao ran towards the rooftop.

For reasons he could not identify, he followed her up.

And then he witnessed everything.

The girl crying, rescuing the child.

And then a group of people rushed forward.

“Quick!

Is the blanket ready?

The child is soaked, she needs a hot bath immediately to prevent a cold.”

“It’s ready, just downstairs…”

“Good, take her directly to the hospital for a check-up, see if there’s anything wrong…”

They took the child away, rushing down the stairs.

But no one, no single person, spared one glance for Xu Qiaoqiao.

A flash of lightning streaked across the sky, illuminating her face clearly before him.

She stood there, her hair plastered wet against her face, her tiny, pale face like a white sheet of paper.

She looked in the direction the people had departed, her thin figure swaying in the rain, a poignant image, it was as if she had been forgotten by the world.

The girl at this moment and the usual quirky girl, were worlds apart, fragile enough to break hearts.

He stood there, motionless, watching her closely.

After a long while, the girl finally came to her senses.

She lowered her head and began to retreat.

As she stumbled back, Xu Mushen saw that her thigh was soaked in blood.

He squinted his eyes.

He watched as she turned and took a few steps before faltering and collapsing face down on the ground!

Almost without thinking, Xu Mushen lunged forward, catching her fall.

The girl looked up from his arms in confusion.

On seeing his face, she forced a smile, “Big Brother …”

And then her eyes rolled back, and she fainted in his arms.

Xu Mushen looked down at her, his usually hardened heart suddenly softened.
