Evelyn Kendrick’s slap was powerful.
Her hand, now at her side, was trembling slightly.
Hazel Sinclair, standing nearby, felt her eyes go wide and bright.
‘Is Evelyn really this brave?’
‘She just raises a hand and smacks someone.’
‘The man she just hit is Jasper Fletcher, President of the Vorizon Group and its future chairman.’
‘Impressive.
Just what you’d expect from the only daughter of the Kendrick Family.’
The corner of Jasper Fletcher’s lip was split, and blood was trickling out.
His cheek burned with a fiery pain—it was probably already swelling.
“You hit me for Hazel Sinclair?”
“I’m your fiancé!” Jasper Fletcher’s gaze fell on Evelyn Kendrick, his voice practically a yell through gritted teeth.
“Oh, wow, ‘fiancé.’ So impressive.
You’re already messing around with another woman, and you really thought this engagement by alliance could be sustained?”
“If you can’t control the lower half of your body and can’t be faithful, then what’s the point of you getting engaged for an alliance?”
Hazel Sinclair immediately stood in front of Evelyn Kendrick, shielding her like a mother hen protecting her chick, and started laying into Jasper Fletcher.
‘This kind of man is the most disgusting.
Always wanting what’s in the bowl and what’s in the pot, afraid he’ll miss out on a single bite.’
“Even if Mr.
Fletcher did something wrong, you can’t just hit people.” Crystal Lambert stared at the swollen side of his face, her heart aching for him.
She reached out as if to touch it but didn’t dare.
In the end, she could only turn her glare on Evelyn Kendrick, shrieking in frustration, “You crazy woman!”
SLAP—
A resounding slap echoed through the restaurant.
The onlookers all silently gave a thumbs-up.
‘So cool.
She’s so cool.’
That slap had also come from Evelyn Kendrick.
Hazel Sinclair certainly had no obligation to help with the assault.
‘She just couldn’t bring herself to stir up trouble like that.’
“Evelyn Kendrick—” Jasper Fletcher roared at Evelyn, his face contorting with rage as he watched his beloved woman get hit.
SLAP—
His only response was his other cheek turning bright red.
Evelyn Kendrick was already tall at five-foot-eight, but adding the three-inch, red-soled high heels she wore, she looked both fierce and beautiful.
She looked down on him, her eyes filled with disdain and disgust.
“What are you yelling about?”
“What gives you the right to yell here?” Evelyn Kendrick spoke slowly, but her every word was chillingly cold.
“We’ve been engaged for three months, haven’t we?
If you liked her, you could have just rejected this engagement, but you didn’t.
And she clearly knew you were already engaged, yet she shamelessly claims that you two are the ones in ‘true love.'”
Evelyn scoffed, then added, “Fine.
True love.
I’ll make your wish come true.”
With that, her gaze shifted to Hazel, who was enjoying the show.
Evelyn slung an arm around her friend and said with a smile, “Since you’re my bestie, go get the footage of them being all lovey-dovey for me.”
Hazel smelled the perfume wafting from her.
She recognized the scent—it was the newest and most expensive fragrance from Chanel.
‘It really did smell amazing.’
“Miss Kendrick,” Hazel said, holding her hand out to Evelyn with a sycophantic smile.
“Money.”
“You’re incorrigible.” Evelyn rolled her eyes, but at the same time pulled out her phone and sent 100,000 dollars to Hazel’s PayPal account.
“Is that enough?”
“Thank you very much, Miss Kendrick.” Hazel’s heart pounded with excitement as she heard the PayPal payment notification chime.
Taking money to do a job, Hazel immediately ran to the front desk and demanded to see the security footage.
When the receptionist seemed about to refuse, Hazel whipped out a business card and slid it across the counter.
“That Miss Kendrick over there is the acting chairman of the Hyperion Group.”
Hazel had perfectly mastered the art of borrowing a tiger’s might.
She leaned one hand on the counter, the business card held between her fingers, her expression completely blank.
“Offend her, and you can kiss this restaurant goodbye,” Hazel threatened.
Upon hearing this, the manager reached for the card.
After a single glance, he hurriedly said, “I’ll pull it up for you right now.”
While the security footage was being retrieved, Jasper Fletcher was still trying to sweet-talk Evelyn out of her anger.
“If you mind me being with her, I’ll break up with her right now.”
“How can we just call off the alliance between our two families?”
“Are you just going to abandon the project?”
Jasper Fletcher had calmed down now.
He knew what he’d done was wrong.
He rushed to appease her.
If the engagement fell through, his father would surely tear him a new one.
Standing beside him, Crystal Lambert’s eyes widened in disbelief when she heard his words.
“Mr.
Fletcher, I’ve been with you for three years!
You said you loved me the most!
And I don’t even mind being your secret lover.
I don’t want to be apart from you.”
Crystal Lambert’s declaration stunned everyone present.
One man had harmed two women.
One had unknowingly become the other woman, while the other was willing to be a mistress for love.
When Evelyn Kendrick heard “three years,” she let out a cold laugh.
“You really are…”
“…utterly disgusting.”
The people nearby started to whisper.
“Damn, is this guy pure poison?
He’s taken down two women at once.”
“Wow, impressive.
He has a girlfriend but still gets engaged for an alliance.”
“Even if a man like that gets married, he’ll just find someone else.
You can’t change those defective genes in his bones.”
“Is that woman sick or something?
Even after all this, she’s still willing to be his secret lover?
Just how deep is that love?”
The disdainful looks and mocking words from the crowd were too much for Jasper Fletcher, the darling of fortune, to bear.
Hazel added the manager on WhatsApp and had him send the video to her.
After receiving it, she smiled and said, “Thank you, Manager.”
By the time she got back to Evelyn’s side, she saw Jasper Fletcher throwing a tantrum.
“What’s wrong with him?” Hazel asked, confused by the sight.
“It’s not like he has epilepsy.”
Evelyn watched the man in front of her screaming at the crowd in a rage.
She sighed, thoroughly annoyed.
“What a piece of trash.
He’s absolutely disgusting.”
“Did you get the video?” Evelyn asked after her tirade.
“Don’t worry, it’s all set.” Hazel gave her an okay sign.
Evelyn nodded.
“Let’s go, then.”
Hearing that, Hazel immediately shook her head.
“No can do.
I haven’t even eaten the food I ordered.”
“It’s a meal that only cost a few hundred dollars, and you’re still thinking about it?” Evelyn was speechless.
Hazel immediately retorted, “A few hundred dollars isn’t money?”
“It’s so hard for Leon Sterling to earn a few hundred dollars right now.
I can’t be wasteful.”
In the end, Evelyn sat down in front of her.
She looked at the food Hazel had ordered and sighed.
Seeing her old arch-nemesis living like this, all the past hatred and resentment vanished in that instant.
“Didn’t I just give you money?
Why are you making yourself look so miserable?” Evelyn asked, picking up a pair of chopsticks.
Hazel, a human money magnet, just chuckled.
“With me, money only flows in, never out.”
“Besides, Leon Sterling paid for this meal.”
Hearing this, Evelyn asked curiously, “How much did he give you?”
“Two thousand!” Hazel held up two fingers, laughing so hard she trembled like a flower in the wind.
“He’s bankrupt, and he still gave me two thousand dollars to spend.”
Evelyn: “…”
‘Anyone who didn’t know better would have thought she meant twenty million.’
